Perhaps they were stalling to announce the news on the same day as the away shirts came out... in a "good day to bury selling news" sort of way?

£2.5 million for a player who wishes to move on himself as well as being in the last year of his contract. Add to that we have brought in two more than adequate defenders one being proven in this league for sometime now and the other having the potential to be as good as Harry perhaps even better.

I'll take that.

Make sense since, Arsenal have spunked 11m on that Callum lad from Southampton.

Does Jenkinson help solve the home grown quota (or whatever it is) issue they had for the Europa League and make Maguire less of a priority?

Could it be that they lost interest in Maguire (if indeed they did) more because of this signing than us holding out for more money?

Whether it's 2.5m or 3m, it's still a very good deal for a 3rd division defender in the last year of his contract.

Note - They do reckon that Jenkinson will make a better CB than RB so maybe Hull have moved on

Not really. They have left themselves a get out clause - all they have said is HM has permission to talk to Hull. If it all breaks down they can say a deal could not be agreed.
Good point!

But any deal not being agreed from here on in would be based on player package, and given that Maguire really wants to go to the Premier League the likelihood of him failing to agree terms would be very small. Which would then leave us back with the fee, which we are currently saying has been agreed.

I still expect this to go through in the next 48 hours. If not, I won't be unhappy as Maguire will still be our player.

Not necessarily. It will all be vague "terms could not be agreed". HM won't neccessarily jump at any offer Hull make him. They may offer him x, he may think he can squeeze 2x out of them and then Hull may tell him to get lost and sign someone else.

The gravy thickens...looks to me like we've accepted the 2 million.."the last offer made"?
But who knows...it's a tangled web and the details won't be out for ages unless some kind soul helps us 'nosey-parkers!'

;)

Very surprised by this.

I thought Hull had moved unto other targets. Jenkinson etc!

This will go down as undisclosed for sure.

Given Hull's statement, I would not expect any subsequent statements from them to be vague *if* the deal doesn't go through. If it did go through I'd like United to disprove Hull's statement, but I doubt they would.

the vast majority of Hulls signings in the close season have been Englishmen. Given the decent number they already had I can't see this being a factor in going for Harry.
Interesting if Jenkinson has gone for 3 Million, a player who's made 37 appearances for Arsenal and has a senior England cap.

Hull have said they made a final offer last Wed which was refused and that United have today contacted them accepting the offer.

United's quote "The Premiership club have finally met United's valuation for the defender" suggests the latest active movement is Hull bidding, doesn't it?

It doesn't say when the "final" bid happened. It could have been last Wednesday. If it was, no-one could say United's statement was a lie. If there was a new bid from Hull over the weekend, United could produce the bid and show Hull were lying in there statement.

Which makes me tend to believe there has been no new bid since Wednesday.

So do you think that the bid made on Wednesday "did meet our valuation" and we were just trying to get a bit more money, or do you think our valuation has subsequently changed?

Couple of things,1)we were promised significant funds at the end of last season for this season without selling ANY of our players, and ive yet to see the funds materialise,so with Maguire's funds we must have a lot,and 2)nobody knows if its a good deal until we have seen what has been done with the cash.and 3)sun stroke?..why the fuck are they lieing to us yet again, talk about been dis respectful to the fans.
I agree with you in principle but to reply to you points

1. we are a L1 club. Every player is sellable for the right price. provided we have the right price and not sold to the 1st bidder(like Blackman). The backing means we are debt free and didn't have to sell to the 1st bidder but we still have to stick to FFP
2.totally agree. Hopefully it will give NC the striker he is looking for
3.Maybe this is what HM said to NC. Did HM refuse to play ?

So Maguire sunstroke is the new Beattie flu I guess. We have all known for weeks now about the Harry situation, was the sun stroke bullshit really nessesary ? The fact that nothing has really changed in the boardroom is the real disappointment here, we were told funds were in place to invest in the team without selling first ..................obviously not. Good luck to Harry he will need it due to his only real fault the lack of any pace, but Hull City jeez.
No excuses not to bring in at least two if not three very good players for this level, the thing is who trusts McCabe to do so now the Prince has fooked off home ? Going to be a very interesting few weeks thats for sure,
I can see the headlines now ......................
THE LOAN WINDOW OPENS IN A FEW WEEKS CLOUGH UNDER NO PRESSURE TO SPLASH THE CASH

Poor deal by us if it's £2-£3m. It means we will need a 40 goal a season striker now compared to a 20 with Maguire,.

???? we have an established L1 centre half leader and a young 18 year old. + an experienced right back who can play centre half. The difference 20 goals a season ? I highly doubt that

So do you think that the bid made on Wednesday "did meet our valuation" and we were just trying to get a bit more money, or do you think our valuation has subsequently changed?

I do this for a living. The other side offers £10K, the client says "that seems good, I will take that". I say, I think we can get more out of them, let';s say we will settle for £15K and then take the £10K if they refuse. Obviously, the risk in doing that is that the original offer may be withdrawn.

I think the most likely scenario is that Hull were by some distance the highest bidders. Sufc held out for more, Hull told them to fuck off, and now we're facing either selling him to someone else for considerably less, hanging on to him and him going for nothing next summer or 500k in the JTW, or telling Hull that we'd accept their last offer.

Since Wednesday United may have revalued Maguire's value downwards, which wouldn't make the statement "The Premiership club have finally met United's valuation for the defender" a lie.

In any case it's us the media are making out to be chumps.

Eh, how does that fit with:

The Premiership club have finally met United's valuation for the defender, who has now been granted permission to speak to the East Yorkshire club.

United's Managing Director, Mal Brannigan, commented: "We made it clear that we wanted Harry to stay by offering him a new contract at the end of last season, unfortunately he and his representatives chose a different path.

"However, as he is under contract at Bramall Lane, we exercised our right to set our own valuation of him and after numerous bids which did not meet our expectations, Hull City increased their offer and we have reluctantly accepted.

It doesn't, someone is distorting the truth somewhere though it seems! As I said maybe a bit too smoke and daggers but isn't it fun to have some potential skullduggery to pore over for hints of conspiracy? :)

It's plausible:

Hull to SUFC: we will give you £2M (or whatever)
SUFC to Hull: no way, we want £3M
Hull to SUFC: no chance, bye.

SUFC to Harry: Hull deal off Harry, 3rd Division for you next season. Wave goodbye to that half a million pound a year 3 years contract
Harry to Clough [massive sulk and big row]
Clough to SUFC: there is no way tha mardy bastard is in my team next season

SUFC to Hull: ...errr that £2m you mentioned, sounds good...
