Lesson #1. 'How to hang on to a lead.'

I get your point but if we got ahead then sat back and tried to hang on:
1) everyone would destroy Wilder for doing it
2) we would concede at least 2 soft goals

Don't think that's the best example tbh 🤣 Allowing a shitload of shots and getting lucky that Bamford missed a sitter.

1. How many points did BCFC get today?
2. How many points did we get?

I can take a filthy victory were the opposition pummel us for the last half hour and we have the ball clip the woodwork, our keeper have a worldie game and their forwards play in flip flops. But we win.

It seems that recently we feel deeply uncomfortable and unconfident being a goal or two up and capitulate, fail to man-mark and stick our chins out ready for an uppercut.

BCFC rode luck today it seems (I didn't see the game - I'm over in Culver City CA but watched the BBC text feed over breakfast) but it just seemed we didn't have it in us to deliver the killer blows. And all those yellows? WTF?

Unfortunately we can't face our own wasteful, inefficient forwards who miss more chances then they should.

Are you even a Blades fan?

I like this.

1. Offer criticism about Sheffield United after a disappointing DLDLDL run where we have coughed up nearly 30 points from winning positions all season and the players now are clearly underperforming

2. Emotionally fragile forum contributors: 'are you even a Blades fan'?

You must do better

Sounds like you are advocating for the approach we had last season which loads of fans hated!

If you saw the game today, maybe you wouldn't be talking out of your arse now 👍

We lost Maurice.

You're acting as though I am criticising us when we won.

As said, I don't care how we win, spozzy, own goal, contested penalty, six deflections and off the post.

A win is a win.

A loss is a loss.

Yeah. We lost 1-0.

What do I need to see?
That the way Bristol City ‘hung onto a lead’ was awful, and that we could easily have got back into the game. The second half I can hardly remember them getting into our half such was the dominance we had. If Bamford hadn’t dropped an all time stinker we’d be leaving with all 3 points.

D'you know, Gimli, if we did that on countless games this season, where would we be in the table?

It's now about how you play. Clearly, you can go out second half and put pressure on and still lose.

But teams who play us, know they can go out second half and put pressure on and still win. Or, go out second half and defend their lead successfully.

And that's my point.

Exactly BCs 2nd half performance was shocking, they did everything wrong in trying to protect a lead, any decent team would have won in a canter.
The Op admitted he'd not seen the game, I wish people would stop posting such bollox

And my point is, if you’re going to start a thread called ‘How to hang onto a lead’ you should probably have watched the game, given that it was a textbook example of how not to hang onto a lead.

Being as you didn't see it I'll give you a brief summary....
We were horrendous first half with a set up that looked like the players had no idea what they were supposed to be fucking doing. Sliced open numerous times and carried no threat. Lucky to go in only one down. Wilder changed it at ht and 2nd half we absolutely dominated but Bamford missed two excellent chances. There were a few other half chances for us and Tanganga made a couple of great blocks at the other end. IMO we did enough to win based on our 2nd half performance. We looked so much better as a back four and unsurprisingly with our best players on the pitch. Hope this helps.
Pommpey.

The OP still observes BCFC successfully defended their lead.

They won 1-0.

You can press all you want. McGunness headers, shots whizzing past the post from Gus, Peck and Burrows. Keeper makes some great saves. Bamford fluffs another sitter.

But BCFC still won 1-0.

Now tell me - we are 3-1 up against Swansea last Friday. Another game I didn't see, as I am abroad. Seemingly we did everything wrong defending a lead, too.

So tell me how BCFC succeeded and we didn't.

It can't be a textbook example of how not to hang onto a lead when they won the game.
yes I’m sure we’d have all been absolutely delighted to have played the way Bristol City did in the second half.

They only won the game because we missed some glorious chances.

Lies, damned lies, and statistics - yes Bristol City won the game but anyone with eyes (and even a few people without) could tell that on another day we come away with the win

Thanks for your response

Which team hung onto their lead, Gimli?

Sorry, but you can't give a constructive post about a game, if you haven't even watched it. And all those yellows? You mean three?
