Don’t get me wrong he’s been decent for us this season but my god, he’s a greedy bastard isn’t he! If I had a pound for every time Campbell should have passed the ball instead of shooting i’d be a millionaire. I’ve counted he should have at least 3 more assists this season if he passed.

He did also put it on a plate for Bamford twice that half. I’m mostly fine with how often Campbell goes for it himself.

Get 3 points against Swansea and we might as well start giving some random U21 players some first team experience anyway. Good time for him to get this booked in, get back ready for preseason and start next year fully fit.

Be good to start Faxon if Wilder dares to tinker with the team, we need to see where he is at.

Better he have it now than in the summer. I believe hes got another season on his contract so this should give him plenty of time to be fully fit for next season (whilst at the same time making it unlikely we can raise any funds by selling him this summer).

Yeah he’s never signing a new deal on reduced terms so this news makes it more likely he’s still here next season and leaves for nothing in 2027.

I’m pretty sure the coaching staff that work with him day in, day out will have a decent enough idea of where he’s at without throwing him into championship games and hoping for the best.

We’d also risk having to pay fines for doing that.

Sorry, why?

The EFL rules require teams to field was is deemed a full strength team in all league games to maintain the integrity of the competition. For example, if we played Faxon in a game against a club in the bottom 3 and we lost, other clubs in the relegation zone may feel we gave our opponents an unfair advantage.

To add some more context, if Adam Davies gets injured or suspected we would be able to bring in another keeper on an emergency loan due to Faxon not being a "Professional goalkeeper' as defined by the EFL rules. If we have a game at the very end of the reason where the result can't effect our or any other clubs league position then we'd probably get away with it.

For outfield players it's easier to put 1 or 2 into the team, but if we suddenly drop an ex-international keeper for one who's never played a league game, that might not go down too well...

Who are they to suggest Faxon isn't as good as Davies? He's a professional.

1 - He's not a professional goalkeeper as defined by the EFL rules. Which is why we'd be allowed an emergency loan if Davies gets injured or suspended.
2 - If the club believe he's as good as Davies, why hasn't he been playing instead of Davies in the cup games or when Cooper got injured?

International is doing some heavy lifting here

I don’t buy this - how would anyone ever field a young keeper if this was actually the case? It would be a catch 22 that prevented it

How many goalkeepers can you name that made their senior debut in the Championship having never played a first team game before either in a cup competition or lower league?

Feel free to check the EFL rules if you need proof that clubs must always field a full strength team in league games or that Faxon doesn’t meet their definition of a professional goalkeeper.

25.1 & 58.1 are the EFL regulations you’re looking for.

If Adam Davies is injured or suspended then we'd only have Faxon so surely we'd be allowed to have an emergency loan regardless of Faxon's classification?

We’d only be allowed an emergency loan because Faxon doesn’t meet the EFLs definition of a professional goalkeeper. If he did then we wouldn’t be allowed an emergency loan and would have to play him.

If we signed a goalkeeper on an emergency loan then they would have to play, you can’t sign an emergency loan keeper and have them on the bench.

Probably phrased that more confrontationally than I meant it. Just shocked at this. I know I’m probably being an idiot or is this the case with outfield players too? I always remember Warnock giving a totally random start to Nicky Law against Manure. Would that have been breaking that law? Is just that all players at one point have never played a game before in which case how do they ever get a debut? My brain clearly stopped working!

Agree with the sentiment, but perhaps the staff already know where he's at, and if it's nowhere near Championship level there's no point chucking him in.
If there's no way that we play him or they think he's not Championship standard may as well move him(Faxon) and Davies on at the end if the season.
