Or he might want to still play football because he loves it and you’re a long time retired.
I was at Hampton on Saturday watching them lose to a Chelmsford side containing Lyle Taylor and a 38 year old Ricky Holmes. The latter definitely plays for the love of the game.

I’d not be surprised to see Ings sign at NLS level in a couple of years.

With the season just about over and him seemingly nowhere near the first team squad he has to be the buggest last payday player we have wasted wages on this millenium

Dean Hammond played more games I think?

Maybe his contract has wage bonuses if he's in the match day squad? Mee could have the same deal.

With Ings it was always going to be a risk, everyone knew his injury record and on a free that late in the the market it made sense. He got us a point against Norwich at home. Similarly with Bamford, he was always going to be a risk too but that one paid off. I don’t have a problem with giving a free a chance, it would have been worrying if we have had paid £10mill

Plenty of players go to clubs, it doesn't work out and they don't play. His attitude has been praised by the manager, why dig him out.

Hammond was a wage thief in a completely different way.

If he’s willing to take a large pay cut it’s always useful to have some experience around at the top end of the pitch, even if he is fourth choice. I don’t see what team offers him a deal if he wants to get regular minutes otherwise so it could tempt him.

In what way?

Its like mirror image to Hammond, both come to us at the end of their careers having being capable players on the past, both end up having zero movement, fitness, speed or anything to contribute.

His attitude was also praised by the manager.

Only difference I see is that Ings hasnt cost us a goal or made us look exposed but only due to postion he plays.

Its also worth adding that Hammond as 1 more goal for us than Ings as well (currently).

Hammond knew he was despised by the fans, had played a large role in our lowest finish for ages, had the manager who brought him in leave AND knew Wilder didn't want him, and he still chose to trigger an extra year on his contract.

Wouldnt you trigger a new contract if you was out of work?

Both as usless as each other, neither got/had legs.

Hammond had come out in an interview a few year ago about his time with us, it wasnt like he wasnt trying, he just couldnt physically do it anymore. That fault lies with the manager picking him.

Not trying to lay into Hammond necessarily, I watched the interview and he seemed sound. Just pointing out that the situation with Hammond was at least a level or two worse than Ings.

I don't think I would trigger a new contract in that situation, but who knows if I would and I can see why he did.

I would agree to an extent, along with the goal against Norwich, he had 2 ruled out for offside too. Worst case he plays in the cup games and subbed on occasions to assist in squad rest and rotation when needed. Cannon definitely looks up to him. I guess in a way both Davies’s and Shackleton haven’t done too much more other than playing the odd game here and there, if Cooper was fit Adam Davies wouldn’t be 1st choice.

No point, his legs have gone even at this level. You would be better hiring him as a coach.

As stated before, he does the right things but he is half a yard off the pace.

Good interview that 👀

Come on blades! Ings is taking the piss! It's quite obvious to anybody whats watched football for a number of years, Douglas Baders had more movement than him, its plain to see his fkg legs have gone ffs!
