In fairness it got better. He showed the leadership we wanted 2nd half too

Absolutely fucking dire. That clearance when Oné teed him up for a sitter was a masterpiece of incompetence.

At the very end of this vlog, Ings is going round the young players one by one, giving them a few words, patting them on the back. Excellent senior player leadership this. No poor-me body language because he didn't get minutes. It won't be his fault he isn't quite good enough to get the minutes he wants, but it is up to him how he chooses to deal with it. Love it

How a player with so much experience can have so little nous is beyond me.

Sir Alex Ferguson once famously said that Pippo Inzaghi was "born offside".

Well Danny Ings died there. About three years ago.
Pretty much when he got his injury which has probably taken the pace away. That period of time at Southampton full time scoring 34 in 67 was 5 seasons ago and he was banging in his 21st goal of the Premier League season. He isn’t the youngest and possibly could have avoided signing for us but whilst we have him this season use him to see out games or pass on advice

He was a desperate signing as we had nothing else. He tries hard and has been available for most games, he’s been useful in some games but today just looked shite.

Seemed disappointed to be coming off but compared to Bamford he offers little.

I think it’s time he hangs his boots up. It’s down to him to prove me wrong.

I have defended Ings before but personally you can’t compare Ings with Bamford as some have, as they are 2 completely different type of players. Ings is very much like Cannon and everyone knows how long it took Cannon to get going and still question marks on whether he can continue in that mini run of form he has.

The advantage to having Ings in the squad is playing the minutes we need him to play and not being too worried about the outcome. Like today if he wangs in a hat trick everyone would be saying what a signing but a bad game in a side that conceded 4 and in general most players would be lucky to be on 5/10 is difficult to judge. He has lost pace and edge but isn’t the youngest and but until the end of the season he is handy to have available to rest players when needed. I don’t think we will be extending and he probably knows that deep down but to put it out there we would have lost at home to Norwich without his goal. He has had 2 correctly ruled out for offside too. It’s difficult to know what to expect from him as the injuries have taken their toll. He has earnt enough now to be happily retired

Let's face it fellow blades, ings is finished. Somebody please tell him politely to pack it in, yet again another great player whos endered up at the the lane for one last pay day, and its got embarrassing watching him.

I don't want to be coming on with a load of pelters as others have. I think the biggest issue is that he hasn't been able to reinvent himself as a different kind of striker, as his pace has declined, as Billeh did.

Perhaps a different but linked question should be asked instead - should Oné have been getting the minutes instead?

Yes, Oné would offer more and there's value in giving him those minutes.

There was the exact same output from both our strikers today; to his credit, Ings was the one trying though, but sadly for him that’s him when he’s trying.

I expect our website over the summer to have a statement with a picture of a corner flag saying “Danny Ings went to live on a farm”

Wank signing. He was past it 3 years ago. Injury prone, unfit, lost his pace and won’t make much difference this season. This club is ridiculous.
Called it at the time, many argued with me. Get him gone, I’d rather give Oné minutes

Not worked out for him and he has had a few unlucky moments where it looked easier to score than miss.

Today he seemed to divert one chance wide that looked like it was going in.

Its sad to see, he was a terrific player but, with that yard of pace gone he’s lost. Not in any sense trying to compare myself with him but I never knew what the phrase meant until it happened to me. Hung my boots up at the end of that season. He’s looking rather like a punch drunk boxer, clearly knows what he needs to do but his body ain’t delivering. I wish him well and hope he enjoys his retirement.
