I was curious as to how many players have scored Hat-Tricks for United over the years. I think this is correct - Silent Blade / Revolution will tell me if i'm wrong.

I’m sure they were a group of fine upstanding citizens but just to be on the safe side , if they were to move in next door I would take great care not to fall out with any of them , especially left and right on the back row but even more so the mother .:eek:
 
Not only did Harry Hammond score five hat tricks for us but he was our first ever player to get a red card! Surely he deserves a statue for that? Wilder would love him. Culture carrier! What happened after he was sent off was brilliant...

"Having been dismissed in an away fixture with Crewe in April 1892 Hammond actually believed his life was in danger and fled from the ground, hiding at Crewe station until the rest of the United party arrived."

Also a good snippet on his departure from this world...

"After he finished playing football Hammond became a publican in Bolton where it was reported he died whilst playing billiards in his pub."

Now gone down a Harry Johnson wormhole. His debut sounds insane...

"He played his first match in United colours for a Reserve side at Heckmondwike, and upset the home fans who 'displayed a certain amount of animosity,' and one irate man even waved an unloaded gun at him."

I always like to say that the backpass rule killed Simon Tracey's career. It didn't as he continued on for another decade after the rule change, but i think he suffered a lot because of the rule change, since keepers have evolved into secondary sweepers in the modern game.

He did seem to make some howlers rushing out for the ball and either took out the man, the man and ball, neither when he would come out.

Nothing to do with Hat-tricks and still one of my favourite keepers but you mentioned rule changes, so it's basically your fault for my little tangent :D

He was our most sent off player until Chris Morgan.overtook him 2010ish.

I remember United fans at away games behind the goal often shouting out the afternoon’s horse racing results to Simon Tracey, who always gave a wink and a thumbs up (or sometimes thumbs down).
 
I think when we beat Southend 6-0, didn't Brian Deane get a hat trick in the first half?
Tony Agana in the second half?.

Not that surprising though is it?

We don't play attacking football and in recent years haven't owned prolific goalscorers.

It would be interesting (if anyone can be arsed) to see the top three goalscorers in all competitions since 1960.

Sure, Edwards, Sharp, Ched, even Michael Brown had purple patches, but for real success you need a 20+ top scorer, two on over ten and at least five with ten or less.

Tell me out of the current squad who fits that profile?
