Definitely. Please don't let One be the next Osula
The one that got away.
The point of our Accademy is to sell young talent to fund the first team. Sad but true, look at pigs, no players developed and no funds for club

Certainly is the model for the top clubs like Chelsea do. Think it's more of a mix of selling and using academy players at our level

Pretty much , its about player development.
Either saving transfer fees by growing your own or moving on for profit .
Generally to sell for anything significant we have to do both. Introduce into our team before we have any intrest from PL clubs for real money , think Osula was a big of a strange one in that regard.

Whilst I agree, the fee we'd receive if One has played in the championship with us would be higher than currently imo

We should sell him otherwise he will be worth nothing at the end of his contract
Who's buying him? Can't imagine there's a huge market out there for a player like Campbell. That's not to say I don't like him but I don't see anyone paying money for a player who's had a poor season and gasses out regularly at 60 minutes.

Wrexham written all over him

Everyone's raving about one and have catapulted him to our starting striker next season even though he can't get a start in Lincoln's eleven

I was at the academy this season the day we played against Stoke at home and One was there with a few of his mates in the foyer and he greeted my U7s and was talking to a few of the boys, I got talking to him and its fair to say he's quite strongly opinionated about Wilder and the way he was bombed out of the side with no explanation.

Might be one of them that Wilder doesn't fancy, similar to Seriki.

We have managed to get Grbic and some of the AI signings out of the building

I cant see Coventry wanting to sell him for a loss. If they get promoted, it will rise to 8M. He will be a great champ striker but can see just getting only 10 goals a season.

His value will be <£1m, there’ll be a few teams that will risk that on a proven championship goalscorer, even if it’s just to warm the bench.

Depends what value is on their books. It’s hard to argue his value has increased during his time there so it’s likely we’d be able to get him for whatever is left outstanding to Everton. Them getting promoted helps us because he definitely won’t play for them at that level and they need to free up wages.

Similar to if we sold cannon - we wouldn’t get the £10m we paid to Leicester but his book value will be between £5-7.5m, depending on when the next payment is due.

No way are Cov telling players they don't want them in the Prem, before they're even promoted 😅
That is true but sometimes the writings on the wall.If he can't get regular starts in the Championship! He's no chance in the prem.
It is possible he would want to give it a go! That's when the manager steps un to say yeah or naa.

Bamford, Campbell, One and Simms would be a decent rotatable strike force for next seasons charge for the Champ title.
Like this. 8th spot is very realistic even if we do lose a few of our best players.

They paid £6m rising to £8m if promoted for him in 2023 on a 4 year deal. That would put his book value this summer at between £1.5m and £3.5m depending on how they've treated the promotion clause in the accounts if they go up.

Separately, I've had issues reconciling the "United paid £15m for Gus Hamer" rhetoric from Coventry. They sold Hamer and Györkeres in the summer of 2023 and reported a profit on disposal of £23m. Those two both cost £1.5m and both had 15% sell on clauses so the full profit was actually about £27.75m.

If Györkeres went for €24m up front (£20.8m) then that's a profit of £17.75m after Brighton's sell-on. That leaves £10m profit for Hamer, or a fee of between £11m and £12m.

Did anyone watch the Coventry v Swansea game on Saturday?

He missed 2 great chances!!! But his hold up play and touch was superb. Brought their wingers and midfielders up the pitch.

Think he will be a frustrating watch as the 2 chances he missed were absolute sitters!! But his goal-to-minute ratio is rather good!

Would be a decent back up to Bamford & Campbell at this level if Ings and Cannon can be moved on and save on their wages, but wouldn't pay more than £4m for him as a back up, he's another Mcburnie type, so I'd keep One ,save the fee and put it towards a keeper and a finisher
If we pay £4m quid for anyone in the summer they need to be our best player. We’ve got a black hole due to the waste of the last summer window, wage budget blown on Phillips/Ings/Mee etc and fall in income as parachute payments drop off.

Add the fees for Matos, Chong, Tanganga, McGuinness and the AI gang along with their wages and Mee especially during the first half of the season looks like a bargain on a free.

Sure i remember it being reported as 13 Million at the time

Agreed. I’m not privy to wages but I doubt we’ll have had value out of anyone. Our most valuable assets are probably on the worst contracts as academy graduates.

And if it hadn’t been for the academy graduates can you imagine what our squad would look like, despite all the PL money over the last few years?

Excellent point. We’ve had a couple of curious moves like Phillips and Godfrey this season and Holgate a couple of seasons ago where we must have had enormous costs incurred for very little value and no future benefit. Holgate was weird because we were down and out but paid a loan fee and a good chunk of inflated wages whereas that total spend could have got us a permanent signing in the championship on a couple of years.

There's no excuse whatsoever for those 3 loan signings at such great expense. This cannot be repeated. Certainly now money will be tighter

Well... We didn't want to finish bottom of the league. That'll have been the motivation for presumably unplanned expensive loans (speculation).
