I'm very happy to respect posted views on the Gil Scott Heron original version of The Revolution Will Not Be Televised and the reworked Black Thought/Brian Jackson version.

But, I am going to do that annoying "in case you didn't know" thing.

In case you didn't know Jackson and Gil had a decade long partnership, from which many of Gil's most famous tracks emerged.

As a writer, composer, arranger and musician, Jackson was a key driving force behind Gil's music from that period.

It's not like Brian's reworking is old fashioned plagiarism.

I knew, owning several records of theirs. It doesn’t change my view though. He’s revamped The Bottle, It’s Your World and Racetrack in France as well as others , all falling well short of their original versions. Taken them in a different direction admittedly but for me, adding nothing. Hopefully he leaves the remainder of the Pieces of a Man album alone!

In case you didn't know...
Well aware of the connection with Brian Jackson and the Midnight Band as I was fortunate enough to see them live back in 75 or 76 on their first UK tour.
I think they appeared on OGWT too.
Fancy, 3 GSH fans on this small thread , made my day.😊

Make that 4, Pieces of a Man gets into my favourite 20 albums of all time.

Seven. I remember the great gig at the Top Rank in the eighties. At the end of the concert I think it was too late to play anymore, so Gil read some of his poetry and the band jumped into the audience and said they wished they could have played for longer. I think I'm New Here was a great LP and up there with his great 70ies albums.

My head has convinced myself I saw Gil on what we'll call the I'm New Here tour in Shepherd's Bush. However, checking the internet gigographies, I realise it was probably the Brixton Academy in November 2010. The day after we beat Millwall.

Decent result for our young side (Ogbene aside) considering all their kids have been playing every single minute of every championship game this season!
