I share Snowman's concerns about the ratio of black players in Clough's squads. Until the signing of Campbell-Ryce there was a trend of getting rid of all the black players and I have to say one "token signing" does not materially alter the recurring thoughts I have. Some weeks ago I looked for reassurance on Derby's website and found the only black players in the squad were signed by McLaren. If that is not accurate then I would love it to be disproven.

In modern football squads there are many black players. We have one and that is unusual. I am not calling Clough a racist; I rate him highly and indeed on this site I have repeatedly lauded his achievements . Of course a manager signs players and disposes of players for the benefit of the club and their colour is incidental. However the facts to me seem unusual the way they have panned out.

I find this an uneasy subject to be airing but that is what forums are for and if anyone can allay my unease I would be delighted. I would also be delighted if Clough's next three signings are all black.

I too share these concerns and desire to join the witch-hunt also...my suspicions were first raised when he signed and insisted on playing Will Hughes'...it just doesn't get 'whiter' than that!
Disgraceful!

I'll only worry when Clough starts ditching black players who don't deserve it. I'd say King, Brandy and Williams were obvious p45 material and Hill had reached the end of the road. In the other direction JCR has come in and Khan promoted from the juniors.

So all in all there's no case to answer whatsoever. I've no knowledge of his Derby choices but I'm not about to worry based on message board hearsay.

.

Lee Grant disproves you. He also signed Theo Robinson and played Mason Bennett when he was 15 years old.

He promoted Calvert-Lewin and Khan last season and has signed JCR.

Clough has never signed any disabled lesbians.

Nothing to see here.

What the fuck? This post is seriously fucked up.

1. Add Nathan Tyson to the list.
2. If you're not calling Clough a racist, what are you calling him?
3. You want our next 3 players to be black just so we have a suitable quota? Are you trying to add a UK version of the Rooney rule or something?
4. Who are the 3 black players you would like him to sign? Are we not in for Chris O'Grady? (there's your first)

I know it's a forum, however you still have to be careful in what you say. Us blades will always find a way to beat ourselves up.

what a pathetic thread accusing cloughie of being racist he would "nt get anywhere
with an attitude like that.
he will sign the best players available to him regardless of race.he would"nt last five
minutes if he did"nt
Give the guy a bit of space he"s trying to build a squad..
ROLL ON 9th OF AUGUST

Mark my words, selling this lad is a mistake.

Can I ask what you base this on? He may go on to score 15-20 goals for Scunny next year and prove me wrong but I didn't see anything in him that would suggest he's capable of doing at this level purely because he doesn't really have any part of his game that stands out.

Yes, he works hard, but he's not that strong. not great in the air, his first touch is poor, he's not really that quick and he doesn't seem composed enough around the box to me. Maybe it was just a case of being the wrong club at the right time for him after his good season in Scotland?

Taylor has scored 2 goals in 49 appearances in the 3rd tier. And he is a striker remember.

The evidence is overwhelming that he is not good enough at this level.

That's pretty much how we used to describe Ched before he found his form after dropping down a level. Maybe both are dependent on being a little quicker, a bit better athlete, a better reader of the game than the average defender that are marking them, and maybe Ched found that in League One, and Taylor in the Scottish second tier. None of them have any REAL outstanding attributes, maybe apart from powerful shots, and this may limit both of them regarding what level they will be able to score goals at.

I think Lyle Taylor has been unlucky, as nothing was working under Weir, and when he played under Clough our set up was extremely defensive, as sorting us out defensively was Clough's first priority. He started three games under Clough, in which we won twice (Crewe and Bristol City) and lost once (Shrewsbury).

Again, it was a tough job for any striker to impress for us, especially as Taylor seemed to get the headless chicken role, alongside the lazy and unfit Marlon King. I thought Taylor's work rate was incredible in those games, and thought he had to be fed up doing all the running for King, while the support from the rest of the team was woeful (for example, Lappin and Coady were our "wingers" at Bristol City.

I think one thing that Clough (and probably Weir as well) missed in particular from Taylor's game was his hold up play. For a tallish guy he's not strong and lacks the ability to shield the ball.

Is that a role or just a function of his capability? :)

I actually see plenty to like in Taylor but the whole is so much less than the sum of the parts. He did get a brief chance under Clough but the manager made his mind up pretty sharpish didn't he? Given the paucity of our other options at that time, and the fine judgement Clough has shown with other players, that's a damning indictment on Taylor.

A hunch ;)

So you want Clough to prove he doesn't judge players based on the colour of their skin, by signing players based on the colour of their skin?

Joel Campbell will do for starters
Then I wouldn't mind James Rodriguez - admittedly not the right colour - but he is half decent
Alexis Sanchez could add a bit of bite into the midfield and would be reasonable going forward.

All adequate replacements for Taylor, Brandy and Coady (unless he wants to come back then drop the Sanchez feller)

easy.... ;)

I don't think Lyle Taylor is a loss, far from it. But I do believe he possesses the ability to score goals at this level and I can see him showing that at Scunthorpe. Good look to him.

Never mind, we can always buy him back for £2 million next season.........then he'll probably turn to sh@t again

I can't see Scunthorpe taking a million pound loss on him.... ;)

I truth I'm sure he would have scored more goals and played lone striker better than Baxter, Paynter or Porter last season. But that's not the point, is it? Or is it? Two of those are part of our four man strikeforce next season too.
