When we came down from the Prem, Wilder said it would be take 3 windows to rebuild us.

Looking at us now, outside our main first XI, we barely have any players who would make the majority of Championship team.

Who knows what's happened, but here is hoping for a miraculous window, otherwise we are going to be a shadow of the side who started in the Championship last season.

Well given given what happened in the summer and he effectively lost a season I’m guessing he still thinks 3.

The whole point being anyone outside the first XI, eg the B team aren't good enough to be reliable Championship level backups.

That B Team included the supposed best player in the Championship and other players who cost a lot of money or have had decent careers, some at a higher level, and at least 4 players who were good enough to be regulars for a side that gained 92 points last season. There isn't a club in the league that can put out a team of 11 back up players which would be competitive at that level. How many Championship B Teams can you name that would be a better one on paper than United had today?

The more concerning thing is that none of them are on a remotely upward trajectory in their careers either. I'm fine with players that might not be good enough now if they have room to improve. That line up today had none of that

That game was useful in that confirmed some of those that need to be cleared off the books. At least, if we can't unload them, some of their contracts are short term.

And despite the disappointment of today's result, I was much cheered by news of Bamford's contract extension. A forward who knows what he's doing and is still mobile enough to do it.

Yes, a largely B Team losing in the cup has absolutely ruined the run of 22 points from 10 games and made everybody shit again.
Some people have lost their minds it insane!
We lost to Barnet in the promotion season. Not a single one of our players or coaches give a shit about the cups and we never have when wilders been in charge. Nothing today surprised me.
Did any fan give a fuck about losing to Barnet when we celebrating in April? The runs under Clough were good distractions at a low point for the club but I would much rather we didn't have them and were a club performing at the top end of the championship than languishing in league one

The bottom line is that even with that 'B' team, it had enough experience to have won the game easily.

The issue today was a lack og tactical nuance, lack of agression going forward, and persistency of sideways passing and awful crosses.... it didn't help that our forwards were useless today.

He probably factored in 2 summer windows and 1JTW…We denied him his second summer rebuild through absolute rank stupidity.

The evidence for this is that we've not had a cup run? Most teams don't.

I understand the point the OP is making, but the following players are currently outside of the starting 11 when fit and are all good enough imo.

Mee
Burrows
Hoever
Soumare
Hamer
Campbell

Things might not be as bad as suggested, but we do absolutely need 2 or 3 more decent players in through the door. A goalkeeper and a couple of wingers wouldn't go amiss

Madness isn't it.

Same on twitter.

I think people are confusing the result to be akin to chucking a load of kids in to be fair.

This wasn't our U21 players, this was players that are in our main squad that are used in rotation...

Sadly a decent chunk of them are not good enough and need moving on.. just my opinion.

It also had McGuiness & Chong in it. 2 players who we signed from a team who managed back together back relegations.

I’ll slightly disagree with this. A load of players who look good on paper but have no experience of playing together cohesively are useless as a functioning team.

This is what we did today.

GK never plays, the back 4 never played as a unit before. Midfield was a lad coming back from 12 months off and Soumare, who Wilder doesn’t fancy. Forwards were 2 unfit lads who don’t complement each other at all. Hamer is a bit of a maverick and Chong is shite.

Put it together and you lose to Mansfield and concede 4 goals.
