Simon Jordan - "Wendies Bigger club than Sheffield Utd"

If I remember correctly, there were a few good chants that season "Who's the Pussy in the pink" @ Birmingham. "Cheap suit from Matalan" to Tony Cottee, who was commentating for SKYTV @ Watford, the DJ in the yellow tracksuit @ Highbury. "You've never seen a salad" to numerous Police and Stewards @ various grounds.

The young lad in the yellow jacket who walked into the home stand at Donny just as the “if you wear” chant started, then looking totally bemused.

Megson and Sack the Pig.

I am bursting with joy and pride because I started the Tracksuit from Matalan chant
I couldn’t believe it when it went all round the ground
It was totally amazing…and to think people still remember it nearly 20 years later
Wow 🥳

Were you sat towards the front of the kop on the South stand side?

It seemed to take an age for the chant to really catch on.

When it did, even some of the players were laughing at it. Genius.

Why are so many people on here obsessed with a) what Jordan says and b) whose bigger us or Wendy.

We are what we are and they are what they are. In administration, in the shit, rock bottom of Champ, certain to be relegated, have virtually no players, don't own their ground, but play at that ground that is falling to pieces, etc., etc.,

Forget it......

Simon Jordan is paid to be a WUM and wanker. So naturally he's very good at his job! WUMs and Wankers do actually go hand in hand though don't they (eg trolls on message boards - you know who you are!)

Like all WUM/Wankers, just starve them of oxygen ..... who really gives a fuck what they do or say?

As for the maaaooooooooosives. I love the fact that they really do believe that they are maaaaaooooooosive and giant of a club. They are funny, it makes me laugh. Bigger than us? erm probably/possibly/maybe...... oh ok for last century historical reasons let's just say they are. But, we know what we are - a biggish type club that will never be massive in the true football sense (eg top 12 ish clubs). But the pigs really do think that they are - and that is fucking hilarious!

I have a slight supicion that you don't actually know any of the S6 Massive?

It's not 'obsessed', it's just congenital earache.

Wednesday maybe a bigger club than us albeit slightly in the same way wolves are bigger than West brom, arsenal are bigger than Chelsea, man united are bigger than city, villa are bigger than Birmingham, forest are bigger than Leicester and derby , Leeds are bigger than Wednesday, Bolton are bigger than bury, Liverpool are bigger than Everton, in every city up and down the country the same argument will rage and the fans of each team will argue they are bigger and point to history, points won fan base etc, it's irrelevant and is completely down to perspective but in recent years based on trophies won and Cup finals reached and seasons in europe Wednesday are ahead of us what that means I'm not sure

You have a strange definition of recent.

Well I'm not sure how old you are but if you can recall united getting to 3 cup finals in your lifetime and wining one then fair play
Lifetime isn't recent. 20 years at a push could be described as recent. Bournemouth were shit 20 years ago.

OK neither club have won anything recently fair enough but they have won more recently than we have

I'm 55 and would view them as he bigger club as they were usually better than us when I was growing up. I would expect someone who is 30 would have the opposite perception.
So basically down to perspective which is exactly what I said in my post, when I was younger they were 2 divisions above us and an established top flight team then the roles reversed around 1990 and by 1993 they reversed again and probably for the next 7 years, so in my 40 years of following united we have both been predominantly championship teams with the odd season in league 1 and odd season in the Premier league, they have still spent mores seasons in the Premier league despite not being in it for 25 years and it only being 33 years old which kind of says it all, and they have been to 3 cup finals and won 1 and played in Europe in the last 35 years we have in the same timeframe won league 1, so for me yes they are slightly bigger but no better

But how far do we go back when comparing the 2 clubs?

We have finished above the pigs for the last 8 years is it? Been in the prem 3 or 4 times since they managed it 25 years ago. Blades on top in Derbies since 2014?

Pigs beat us 4-0 46 years ago and they still go on about it - 46 years FFS 🤣

We have had bigger attendances since 2017 and they have not averaged a 30,000 attendance since 1968 (57 years ago FFS 🤣) even though their rust bucket's capacity is more than ours.

We own our own modern stadium - they rent a rust bucket.

How long before the deluded reallise that they are not the biggest club in Sheffield - they are a distant memory of a club that had relatively good success 30 years ago.

And now they are doomed 🤣

Ah, bless 'em. Fuckin clowns 🤣

I get your point but said recent history. Many of us remember when they were good but recently they haven't been in the top flight, have lower gates, not reached cup semi finals, have a poorer ground, and a lower squad valuation. Currently, we are by far the bigger club.

Maybe at this moment in time but my point is historically Wednesday have been the bigger club, city currently are bigger than united but no one can seriously say they are the bigger club

Genuine question, would you have Wigan Athletic down as a bigger club than Sheffield United?

Ok bored now but you said recently which is bollocks,

Ahead of us as in average home gates this century? Seasons in the Premier League this century? Cup runs? Play offs? Average league position? Quality of the stadium? Players? Training ground? Academy? Players who’ve come through and established themselves in the top tier? How far do you need to go back to make the ‘recent years’ comment? Your theory is straight off of PorkTalk. Delusion of the highest order.

Track Suit from Matalan definitely got sing at Bury Fc along with another classic …
He’s got a lampshade on his head … referring to a bad fitting bucket hat on one of their yoof

And Lampshade Head was absolutely devastated about it on the tram afterwards, although his mates weren't helping by relentlessly taking the piss out of him as well.

No I wouldn't have wigan athletic down as a bigger club than Sheffield united but I also wouldn't have Manchester City as a bigger club than man united although one has been way more successful than the other, with the sheffield clubs it's very difficult to quantify if there's a bigger club it depends on when you were born, people who are 45 plus which covers me have spent most of their childhood and early 20s with Wednesday as the far more dominant club, people 30 and below the exact opposite

leeds not won a sausage since the prems inception , their fans , like pigs ignore that and 1992 was yesterday to leeds fans
like 1991 was a few weeks ago to wendies
both claim massiveness and lapse into fantasy

we dont pretend to be equals with liverpool or man utd ,

nut like jordan think they are savvy , but his favoured clubs , leeds wednesday and palace have all descended into admin
all 3 have been in div 3 , not a fate suffered by man utd liverpool arsenal and the like

wannabe big clubs. who endlessly self promote

truth is between the 2 sheffield club theres been 1 poxy rumblelows win between us in the last 91 years so only centurians have witnessed it
wednesday last title winning team all reside in urns or wooden boxes half of both clubs 66 and 63 seasons in the top fight. more than half were before world war 2

Agree about perspective but that’s the point.

People at Jordan’s age…..50 years old and above will think Wednesday are bigger.
Where as people under 50 will think United are bigger.

The facts show overall, from 1890 to date…Wednesday edge United in virtually every big club stat but it’s very close….closer than what some people think.
Seasons in the top flight Sheff Wed 66 seasons Sheff Utd 63
Major trophies won Sheff Wed 7 Sheff Utd 5
Seasons in Europe Sheff Wed 2 Sheff Utd 0
Historical average attendances 21.5K Sheff Utd 19.5K

However this century, since 2000, the last 26 years…..which is quite a large sample size.
United edge Wednesday in every big club stat, bigger attendances, better league and cup record, better finances, etc.

So it depends how much weighting/ importance is given to recent history.
Surely recent history is more important that something that happened 100 years ago?
