14pts away from autos, 11 pts away from play-offs.

17 points from the last 10. Carry that ppg on for the rest of the season and it's 67 points. That would be a fantastic achievement for this squad and given the start.

I think that's the best case scenario though
17 points from our last 8. Repeat that over the remaining 24 matches and we’d end on 77 points and be well in the play offs.

Agreed, and that wouldn't get us top six.

We've left it too late. There's way too many teams ahead of us and too much ground to make up.

We'd need to average 1.83 ppg to reach 70 points. Over a full season that would be equivalent to 84 points.
It feels so unlikely that we'll be able to maintain that sort of form.

If we'd beaten Norwich and WBA I'd be getting giddy, but 1 point from 6 told me everything I needed to know.

Personally, if we receive daft offers for Hamer / Peck etc. in January I'd listen to them.

yes have to agree with you captain think the rest of this season is a free hit were definetly not going down and a long shot of making top 6 i think were gearing up for solid recruitment in the next 2 windows for a big campaign for autos next season although not entirely impossible this season next 2 games will tell us more about our chances

For those feeling particularly, and understandably, negative tonight regarding playoff hopes, note that since the end of game 15, we are still trending well enough in terms of gaining on 6th to 'easily' get into the playoffs by the end of the season. Just saying

You sure about the not going down ?
we could be in the drop zone by the time we play Leicester
Let’s focus on survival as that’s the best this bunch can hope to achieve

We've scored 20 points in the last 10 games. An average of 2PPG, which is what we scored over the full season, last season. Yet, many would have you focus only on the negative results in those 10, and see it as a sign of a grim season ahead.

No other team has scored more points over the last 10 games. We've also gained 6 points on 6th place during that time, and 5 points gained on 2nd.

I am continuing to be energised by positivity, as is my style, rather than energised by negativity. If you want to be the latter, you're in luck - Deadbat's match reports will be right up your street ;)

One of the things people rightly say about our predicament is that not only do we have to gain points on those in the playoff positions, but we also have to out perform the 'traffic' currently between us and them. This is correct. We could be happily closing in on 6th, but not closing in enough on teams in 10th-13th, for example, as they are maybe also closing in on 6th. It's a good point, so I thought I'd have a look at something
  • Form (PPG) of every team for the last 10 games*
  • Work out how many points they'd score for the rest of the season if they kept up that form
  • Add that to their current points total, to create a predicted final league table, albeit with non-integer results for points totals
Just for fun, remember ...

* I am aware I have picked a form of the last 10 because it shows us in good light. But this seems to be the point from where we started to play well again, and if we are being honest, still includes a couple of shockers in there. Also, 10 games is a lot, and form over that period of games seems reasonable for a forecast

Sold!

I'm confident we'll make play offs. I'll stick my neck out there. Until Wrexham I had faint hopes of the top two but even I've given up on that now. But we're definitely good enough and with some quality signings in January I don't see why we can't finish top six.

Keeping Bamford is obviously a must.

We might make the playoffs, we might not, every time we almost catch the bottom of midtable, we lose a game which seems to always put us at least two wins from being able to make real progress in terms of positions.

If we can win our next two, we might finally get into that middle group and once you're in there, playoff positions don't look as out of reach. It totally depends on what other teams do though, everyone except Wednesday can beat everyone else in the league on their day, so the points needed to make the playoffs is unknown.

Mostly winning with the odd bad defeat is better than an unbeaten run with a bunch of draws when it comes to catching up anyway.

Need Fortress Bramall Lane now.

Ideally a couple of positive results before the cup game would be the ideal fillip for the transfer window.

We'll beat Leicester 7-0 before being humbled 1-5 by a resurgent Oxford United. Shoes off.

Not impossible by any means.
Let us hope the squad and particularly a certain P. Bamford has the same belief.

Easy to say if only. But ffs if only we had held on for the win against Wrexham. Well, not even held on, just carried on playing as we were.

Play off are definitely a realistic prospect. Barry is back/going back, get shot of Godfrey and tbh I wouldn't be arsed to see Ogbene go back either. That frees up 3 slots for quality loans.

Not our of the realm of possibility though. We've at least given ourselves the chance over the last ten games.
