I’m sorry to disappoint Reidewald and his fans, but when I saw the highlights of last night’s Stoke victory, I feel sure it was actually Binden’s shot that crossed the line, for our first goal before Reidewald touched the ball.

Am I the only one who saw it that way?

Stoke player tried to clear it on the line Reidiwalde forced it over the line in my opinion.It was a goal thats what really matters.

Live, from a decent angle it looked like it didn’t completely cross the line but really difficult to tell. Two things:-

a) Assuming the bell in the ball was working, the ref would know if it rang and would make it known whose touch it was.
b) Riedewald already had one chalked off a few games ago and after recent performances, he really deserves one, he was exceptional again last night.

The whole of the ball wasn't over the line. Had Jiro not been alert to the situation, the defender would have cleared it away and a goal wouldn't have been given. I don't care who scuffed the shot, Jiro thoroughly deserves the goal for being switched on.

And speaking of the ball being over/not over the line, what was it with those Stoke corners, taken from outside the quadrant? One of them was almost in the penalty area?

The whole circumference of the ball has to be over the line. Even if you can see grass it may not be completely over the line. Reideweld did exactly the right thing to make sure it was a goal. My view was that if he hadn’t the lad would have made a really good goal line clearance.

I agree that JR did the right thing in making sure, but I think there were at least 17 mm between the back edge of the circumference of the ball and the line.

Can’t tell from that angle.
17mm wouldn’t be enough for the extreme edge of the max diameter of the ball to be over the line. If JR hadn’t followed up I’m 100 % sure it wouldn’t have counted.
The watch would have remained silent.

They might as well just let them be taken from anywhere! I don't know why the rule shouldn't be that the ball must be inside the quadrant - it may touch the line but must be inside the quadrant.

I vaguely remember in the past that players would occasionally remove the corner flag prior to taking the corner - was the rule on positioning changed so that this didn't need to happen?

Corner flags have been there since the start of the "Sheffield rules" at least, but in theory when it says they are compulsory, they shouldn't be moved. It's not like a keeper can literally move the goal posts to stop a shot he isn't going to reach. It's often what annoys me about football, although sounds petty, the professional player should know where he can and can't take a corner kick from and doesn't exactly set professional standards.

Think I saw the best angle. I too was mistaken at first. But then I saw the error of my ways. It was going down the keeper's throat until the touch of Jairo goaled it
