Would prefer Gilchrist to Clarke, less of an asset going forward but a tidy defender. Certainly better for competition than Clarke.

Edit: didnt realise he went to West Brom for £2.3 million. Decent value for money that.
Not been able to break In to first team and was anwt off after 8 minutes last week

can't comment on the sending off, but unless they've got a quality RB ahead of him, this might say more about West Brom's manager than it does about Gilchrist. Still if they're not convinced about him I think it would be a good use of £2 million.

Clarke is useless, Gilchrist bang average

No pretence
Once souttar got injured Gilchrist was badly exposed and hardly played again and when he did he looked miles off the level
Not one of those right backs that we loaned that season was up to it. Seriki is better than all of them. Id prefer us to identify a youngish, lower league full back that we sign and who has the potential to progress and is good enough to fill in now if needed.

Soutar at CH, wasn't covering for Gilchrist at RB. Gilchrist lost his place to Clarke when he got injured. It was nothing to do with him looking 'miles off'.
He was limited going forward but as a CB, he did a decent defensive job at RB.

I never got the hate, for a young lad on loan, playing out of position.

He was a young lad doing well in a quality defence. Even despite very little defensive support from Rak-Sakyi. Then the poor lad was told to play alongside Robinson instead of Souttar. That's like being in Oasis and being told Noel Gallagher is being replaced by Bez from Happy Mondays... gave everyone a wobble. 6 weeks after we lost Souttar we lost Gilchrist and by the time he got back to fitness (was out for 6 weeks) Choudhury was owning the RB slot. At his age, £2m is a sound investment, be good if West Brom don't give him a proper chance and allow him to be snapped up.

You're obviously a huge fan
I'm not but I certainly don't hate the kid

Maybe I've got it wrong then and his form didn't go off a cliff when souttar got injured and maybe wilder just forgot he was at the club when we were struggling for a right back and playing Choudhury

The last game Gilchrist and souttar played together was v Burnley and gilchrist was dreadful
Woefully out of position and exploited time and time again by Burnley

I'm hoping whoever we target as back up for seriki is someone adventurous will get forward and overlap...everything we lose if seriki gets injured.

Burnley who pissed the championship with 100 pts? That Burnley?
Think they finished second but yeah that one
If you think playing awfully against a good side makes. Him a good player then I hold my hands up
My point wasn't even about him it was about the fact that that was the last time souttar ( who had looked really run down by games and international travel by then ) played alongside him after that his form suffered and we didn't see much of him

He was out injured for 6 weeks so that might have something to do with not seeing much of him. I'm not even saying he should be a nailed on starter, just think he's plenty good enough for the bench.

He was poor before he got injured ( in my opinion )
I wouldn't want him back ,I'm not a fan and I'm not surprised he's not doing much at West brom

I'm not a huge fan, I just ry to support our players, especially young lads.

I don't have Silent Blade levels of recall, so maybe your meory is better than mine, but I certainly don't remember Gilchrist having any 'falling off a cliff', drop in form. I do remember him getting injured in January, then losing his place. IIRC, it was to Seriki, not Choudry, who was occassionally getting a midfield slot. Choudry's purple patch came at RB, when Seriki was injured.

Shame that Sachdev had such a bad injury — he might have given us the cover we need.

Is he not back now playing u-21?
Can’t really see the point of bringing back either of the two players from last season. The only reason that they might be considered is because they know the club. We need to confirm Seriki as our first choice and not disrupt his development for another clubs player

Yes, I think he played his first game recently for the U21s. Whether that puts him back on the path to the first team, I've no idea.
And yes, I agree entirely with you about Seriki being first choice.
