Unlike Sydie we REALLY need to talk about Michael Cooper

We were rumoured to be looking at the young Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Sam Tickle, if things went wrong with Cooper.

Very highly rated young keeper.

Its been clear all season that something's up with Cooper.
I really don't want us to kill the lads career by playing him through injury, he's had a lot of issues in the past so he probably requires further surgery.

Absolutely appalling for both goals today.

He hasn't been right for a long time now, and let's be perfectly honest he had nothing to do for the previous 2 clean sheets.

Leicester were always going to come back at us in the 2nd half. You need a keeper who can withstand a barage in those circumstances, not pull out of a cross trying to claim a foul, and then stand still like a fucking Lemon. Boom, 2 goals conceded, and unnecessary touching of cloth all round.

I like him, but we need another keeper, simple as.

We brought in Bamford so why can't we bring in Forster? It's clear as day Cooper isn't right.

To keep playing him, or rest him and play Davies rather than bring in an ex England international, and experienced keeper for free, is negligence.

He’s playing injured. I have no doubt about it now.

Adam Davies is not sufficiently adequate cover.

We have a problem with GKs that needs addressing asap.

UTB

He’s been playing injured all season due a back problem and has been having painkilling injections before most games. Coventry is when it flared up to the point he could barely move. Or so I’ve been told, anyway.

As it currently stands, he isn't a good keeper. Something's happened, there's some issue, because I believe he is quality - but not sure he's playing any better than Davies would right now, and I don't rate Davies at all.

I think he has a back problem that isn't going away. Explains why he hardly moved for both goals, although he did get clattered into by either Seriki or Tanganga on the first goal.

Should have been looking at the ball though

Seem to remember Mr Tickle having fantastic reach… 🙂

If that's the case, and I wouldn't be surprised, he needs taking out of the team.
Even Davies would have been better today, all they had to do was put a few more shots on target.
New keeper critical ASAP

Maybe I'm being too charitable but the second goal looked like a wicked flight of the ball. Looked like it would swing right and ended up in the middle. The first one actually worried me more because he obviously started coming for the ball and changed his mind. He's obviously carrying the back injury and not wanting to come for crosses if there's a chance of getting hit.

The old painkilling injection routine?

I hope not. Used to be in the bad old days players played when they shouldn't have, which led to their careers being shortened and problems in later life.

I think Tony Currie has the t shirt for that one.

These days you'd expect a player's agent to intervene both to protect the player and also his own investment in him.

Does the second goal deflect off Peck who dives across? Or is Coops just totally beaten by the movement of the ball. None of the replay angles were conclusive but the shot looks like it's going towards Cooper's right-hand corner but moves back straight down the middle.

We need to either bring Forster in now or spend on a new number 1 in January.

Cooper would be a great backup but he's clearly not up to being first choice keeper at the moment. He made such a difference to the confidence of the whole defence last season but it's clearly impacting everyone now

Playing injured and it looked like whatever it was flared up again in the 2nd half.

That being said, both him and Seriki could have done better for that 1st goal, either Cooper should get a hand on it to push it over the bar or away from Mavididi, or Seriki should have at least put Mavididi under some pressure in that situation to try and beat him to the ball.

2nd one is a good finish, and we should have at least put James under some pressure rather than giving him so much space to pick his shot.

I thought maybe Tanganga had given him a shout to leave it as it was going out (or so Japhat thought).
I'm just going on Coop's reaction to Tanganga after the goal.
Bit weird the way he stopped and didn't even try to punch it.
... or was it Seriki??

Maybe. Not his fault if so. Decision making like that has been one of Cooper's best qualities imo so it's stood out to me since the Coventry game that's he looks far less sure of himself.
