I think it's also fair to assume Chef Evans will return to the club (if the Mirror is to be believed on a reported £18k a week) starting training on day release from July.

My feeling on the Chedwyn signing is that we have indeed got him coming back, but not on those wages. Not a chance on those wages.

If get McGinn too, and Billy or CoG.... we're going to be VERY strong next season.

I realise £18k is a lot of money for this Evans but you'd think with the Prince's money we'd be pushing the boat out and trying for Jamie Oliver or Gordon Ramsey. :)

Warrington. The following are the only 1st team squad players we have:

Goal: Howard. Long.

Defenders: Collins, Maguire, Harris

Midfield: Flynn, Scougall, Baxter, Campbell-Rice, Murphy, McGinn, Doyle

Striker: McNulty.

Clough wants a first team squad of18/19 and it may be beyond anybody's control that Maguire will leave soon.

I guess he thinks we now need 4 defenders and 3 strikers. Unlike Clough I would count Kennedy in my first team squad so I'd go for a.n.other midfielder / Coady if possible.

I don't think it's anywhere near as simple as you think. As he builds the squad we will get an inkling what formation he intends to play. 4-5-1 evolved through circumstances last season but he did say McNulty would be "one of a very strong strike force" so I suspect we will play 4-4-2 more often.

I see your point, it is just that of those listed above it is easy to see a starting 11 on the first day of the season that contains 8 or 9 of those players (who played at the end of the season just gone). The squad needs more quality players, but whether all of the new recruits are starters on the first day is debatable. My point was that although we may have 7 new signings by August they will have time to settle before we see all seven start a game together.

I agree but, please forgive me Bladey Blades, I would prefer the latter.

Right? I love how O'Grady is the same age as Sharp and has scored far, far fewer goals in his career.

Out of interest, at what point would you prefer a United player back over any alternative? How many times better would the former player need to be? Would you, say, take Kyle Walker over York City's current Right Back?

Personally I don't want Sharp back, he's failed here twice under three managers and I have no reason to suspect he won't again. That said he's a damned sight better than O'Grady! On a related note, if we're to resign one former United forward this season then Sharp is very much the lesser of two evils!

Taking away your obvious hatred of re-signing of any former blade, irrelevant of the circumstances, I find it just weird someone would take O'Grady over Billy Sharp.

EDIT - I wouldn't mind signing O'Grady, however if I had the choice if it was my turn to pick teams, it would be Sharp

...Re: Billy Sharp.

Clough is a fan, tried to sign him for Derby I believe..?
I'm in the 'if he wants to come back and it doesn't kill us financially, get him in'.
Think he's be great for us under Clough...and Clough would be great for him at this stage in his career!

I think O'Grady would suit us better than Sharp. We need some height and presence to counterbalance our wee ball-players.

COG scored a lot more goals than Billy last season.

As to former players: Ched, please, if he can prove himself back to his best in training (and that's what will happen - he won't be signed until NC has had a good look at him).

I'm finding the sanctimonious, politically correct stuff a bit tiresome now. It's almost as bad as the Bladey former Bladey Blade obsession. We even had the inevitable Michael Brown recently!

Let's presume we've got Davies to add to the list of defenders and hopefully freeman we're realistically looking at a versatile defender who can play centre back and cover left back and the defence is sorted.

I still think porter will sign so we need two first time strikers, though I do think next season will be similar to this one with a 4-4-1-1 formation being played with Scougall and mcnulty being the preferred forward line.

I believe that is incredibly unlikely.

There is at least one first choice striker yet to come in and, personally, I think NC will want two proper strikers in a 4/4/2 more often than not. I don't see either of those two featuring as first choice forwards, though I fervently hope there is room in the midfield for Scoogs, because I ❤️ him!

Yes, you're the one with that obsession!

Sharp is tailor made for the front man in 4-5-1, filling the role Baxter played last season; coming short and playing in runners from midfield then arriving in the box to knock in the cut backs. If that is how we are going to play then Sharp would guarantee us 15 plus goals and 10 or more assists if he can keep fit.

O'Grady would be the workhorse week in week out. A different type of player but every squad needs his type in a long, hard promotion season. We also need a Plan B to turn to.

Having O Grady would be like getting Billy Paynter back, Sharps a much wiser option imo

Butlers an old school friend and would be a class addition to the squad but him and Harry at the back wouldn't leave much pace

Sharp would be a fantastic addition to the squad, and suit our style of play better than he did the 2 previous occasions.
O`grady`s off to charlton i believe.

We could just ask JL94x4 who we're signing.

You may not have noticed Tarq's, JL94x4 has his own, dedicated thread, 'Down Bullshit Alley' in the Rumours sectioned. It's his own little ghetto where rumours can meet, have carnal knowledge of each other, then give birth to their own little rumours and so on and so forth.....and before we know it rumours and reality will merge, turning into something that's indistinguishable from the truth.

Just wondering what Butler's injury stats are as some pig has posted that in his time at Walsall, he averaged 26 games/season?
