A very strange question but just had a thought, how much police do you reckon will be involved on Derby day? Obviously you have police inside the ground, in and around the pubs, on the streets.

Surely it’s got to be easily over 100 officers on duty that day in Sheffield?

Obviously not just for the Steel City derby but for every other big derby game.

It’s a big day for the police. They’ll want some trouble to get stuck into and to try out their new spray. Policing after the home game last season was ridiculous. Doubt it will be any different tomorrow. Their chance to cosplay counter-insurgency operations.

Couple of thousand usually isn't it? From various regions
The record for a single premier league game is about 900ish - the met reported having 1500 on duty in London to cover 9 football matches and Tommy Robinson/other protests in central London back in September.

Just over 400 on duty for the derby at Hillsborough last season. Would guess similar this weekend.

400? that’s ridiculous for a game of football

Wasn't this the most expensive game to police in the country at one point?

I guess it depends who is asking.

If you are trying to get the public onside and justify your actions, you might exagerate the number of coppers and their cost:-

"It cost us £569 million oounds just to police one football match. Imagine how many officers we could have arrestig people off planes for repeating the high court ruling that trans women aren't women"

Hahaha what?😅

Looking forward to being DNA sprayed in the eyes by someone in riot gear for having the audacity to try and walk down Penistone Road tomorrow.
With the trams not running Blades fans won't be arriving in large groups, they will be more arriving in groups of 3 or 4. Best option tomorrow is taxi or Uber (good look with the surge pricing, and finding one willing to drive there).

Some buses that go down London Rd go near the Sty (86 does) and it may be easier to pick one up before it gets to town

In an ideal world we wouldn't need any police, we'd all get on, give opposing fans a cuddle and say 'may the best team win'. I might try it later. I'll let you know....

You're way off.

When you consider a riot van holds 10 cops. There's probably 100 riot police before counting any others.
I think it's the most expensive game to police in the country, including Glasgow, which really does t make any sense other than it's SYP
