CONFIRMED Patrick Bamford

I’m not sure what people were expecting in November.

We’ve looked shite up front, Campbell looks a shell of the player he did last season and Wilder has already said ‘January can’t come soon enough’ so he and we know we need more signings.

He’s literally signed one of the only possible players we are allowed to sign and he’s got pedigree (a while ago I know) in a position we’re struggling in.

What else should we do? Aside from getting One back in the team we have no other options till Jan (aside from other free agents - I’d hazard a guess that there’s not many, if any, better than Bamford in that pool)
Agree, but it’s not so much the player is the fact that in a few short months we’ve gone from Wembley to a club on the downward spiral having no option but to being so desperate we have to sign this ‘type’ of player.
Owners, management team, Wilder, players etc all lacking leadership.

I was saying after P5 L5 this was a relegation battle , Wilder coming in was great news to me but even then my expectations were keep us up rather than take us up ,, it obviously not a Wilder squad and although he saying January can not come soon enough , there are a lot of points to win or lose before the JTW ,, so , as we can't do anything until then I pleased and hopeful with Bamford's arrival , also think Dele Ali would be worth looking at on a similar deal up to January ( we do need something!!!! Hopefully Bamford is IT ) ,, My plan for what it's worth go 2 up top Bamford & Ings bringing Campbell on after 60 minutes , rather than starting with Campbell and him tiring bring him on against tired defenders ,, Goals from Bamford will be great but also his ability to hold the ball up should be useful, something we been lacking , giving our defence a break and time for midfielders to get into box to support ,, hope it goes well ,, and as always with a new signing ,,, welcome to BDTBL ,

Be prepared for the car journey in 'duck', if that's how you are travelling.

Absolute bellends prepared to cut you up for just a single space going in and out. Loads of 'two lanes merging into one' on every road with no thought of cars merging in turn. Fists shaking, windows down with threats thrown and 'wanker signs' randomly given.

An absolute cesspool of 'chip-on-the-shoulder', nasty tossers. Despise the place.

Where are you based?

UTB

It’s actually Ilkeston I’m going to but easier to say between Notts and Derby. Currently based at Norton so it’s a much easier commute and a big pay increase.

ATM I go through Sheffield and get on the M1 at 33, then off at 46 so easily 1.5 hours each way. New place I’d get on at 29 and off at 25, so about 40min each way.

Apparently there’s also a Blade who works there called Phil, but I’ve yet to meet him…although I don’t start until Jan.

I have an irrational dislike of Bamford but at least he gets in the 6 yard box from time to time. Mind thi, if he scores against that lot I’ll probably pin a poster up.

Not sure I get the personal hate towards him to be honest. Is it all because he sang a nasty song?
Obviously not the most likeable player in the world but when we've employed the likes of Marlon King and a post-prison Ched then we can hardly get on our collective high horses - and he's nothing like them. I can only compare his signing to someone like Dave Kitson, who did an ok job for us in his first season. Not particularly likeable either but allowed others to play off him.

I can only assume Bamford is fairly fit as was the case with Reidewald. If he can come in and perform for 5-10 games or make an impact off the bench then it's ok with me.

We play one striker and have four that are fit. Play one of them and save the money until January?

If he's fit to start every game till January, fair enough, but I don't imagine he will be and this will hit the already low confidence of our other forwards who are finally close to being match fit.

We've played two and improved.
Wilder obviously wants One out on loan and has given up on Cannon.
Ings isn't fully match fit and Campbell has never been able to do 90min.

If at 70min for the next 10 games, we switch Campbell and Ings for Bamford and One, it'll be completely worth it.

Do you think it’s going to be costing us that much? I can’t imagine an injury prone 32 year old who’s been a free agent for the past few months can really be demanding that much of a wage.

One day we might get Piroe anall.
thats not the worst shout ive seen on here and might just be available on loan similar to adam armstrong top championship striker but just not up to premier league level and wilder was rumoured to be after him a few years ago when he was at swansea

Will be the complete opposite in my opinion (hewill boost confidence if results improve). No! cant see him starting every game but will be a big player for us ! So dont over play him and risk injury as he hasnt had much football recently.Play him from the bench sometimes .His experience and nous will be invaluable.
Been crying out for a big target man !
he can play not just a big unit.
As i say look after him he will be a success ! which would mean we start getting points and hopefully winning games.
If things go the way we hope he will get a contract for rest of the season surely would be on the cards.

Ah, much better. Just the Friday afternoon traffic jams on the M1 (J25-29) to deal with then.

Yeah, big pay rises are ace, aren't they. Got one in July myself. Even better when you'e on a final salary pension so I can jack it in at 60! Can't wait.

Enjoy.....and say "Hi" to Phil. Maybe he's on here?

I think the wage will be decent but agree it's not significant in the grand scheme of things.

It's more the impact on the squad. Loaning out Cannon will be more difficult if he's not playing, getting Campbell and Ings match fit will be harder if they're sharing minutes with another injury prone, unfit striker.

... and I can't stand the bloke, won't pretend I'm not biased.

When/if he's fit enough to perform better than Cannon.

Ched was eventually found not guilty. If his lawyers had been up to scratch during his first trial, it's intirely possible/probable that there would have been a not guilty verdict with no prison sentence.

Got to say, I don't feel the big hate for him. Maybe I've missed something, but a bit of cheating and some banter that he personally apologised about anyway.

Saw a couple of people say he wasn't any good even at his best/fittest... No, at his peak he played so well in the Prem that he got in the England squad.

I obviously understand the pessimism. But actually there are enough grounds for optimism on this very short-term-emergency-signing.
I agree and Bamford has some character about him and experience which is what we have been lacking.

If he can stay fit he could do well for us i dare say, Bamford is not scared of putting himself in the mix and getting stuck in either.

I have not seen any leadership at all this year, we miss a real leader like Morgs was for us who took no crap from anyone.

Letting Keiffer Moore go with no replacement was the most baffling decision of them all especially with Brewster going to Derby.

If Bamford gets the minutes and service I am certain he will surprise a few.

I'm struggling to see why anyone is disappointed with this signing. Given A: we could just keep going with what we've got till January as it's really working out at the minute isn't it?
B: We need height and hold up play because that's not Campbell's game at all nor any of the other strikers.
C: We can't buy or loan anyone from another club so what were the other viable options?
D: It's effectively a loan but unlike a loan if he does well then there's every chance we can keep him for longer.
E: He's the same age as when Billy and Didzy were in their prime and how many injuries did Didzy have before he joined?!
F: The worst that can happen is that he is no better than what we have and/or is injured and then he'll be released in January.

Finally anyone who is looking at non football matters such as the past are irrelevant since both Wilder and Bamford clearly don't hate each other, otherwise he'd not be here. If you're upset he's come from Leeds then I'd refer back to points A to C. I don't care where he's played quite frankly or what he's said on Wilder.

It definitely has Bobby Davison and Gary Madine vibes all over it.

It's nowt to do where he's come from. It feels like less a Bobby Davison/Gary Madine, more a (less awful) Marlon King.

I also just don't really rate him as a striker. He's thrived in teams that create a lot of chances, and I've always felt he tends to shoot on sight resulting in lots of low percentage shots. Fine if you're winning the ball back time and again high up, but that's not us.

With him and Ings our front 2 are going to be moving like they’re in shin deep water. For the both of them, you have to ask why they weren’t picked up early in the summer by anyone.
