Post on Bladesmad, some rumour sites... stating we've a bid in for this lad.

19, Scottish U19,21...Stephen's 'younger, more talented brother! :O'

Could mean no Coady...shifting targets???

Exciting raw talent, looks like a very promising player. But he could do with working on his finishing if this clip is owt to go by! ;)

Will be a big coup if we get him. Very highly rated up there, top end Championship clubs interested. Their fans seem to think he should be able to get a club in the PL.

He'll be desperate to move so he doesn't have to play in this next season

One for the future it seems although from the video it looks like he cannot get a corner beyond the first man and his shots don't tend to trouble to goal keeper - must be a family connection kind of things I guess?

For what it's worth his Wikipedia page lists him as "a Scottish footballer who plays as a midfielder for Football League 1 club Sheffield United."

Obviously bullshit though.

Going from the little clips I've seen of him and what St Mirren fans are saying about him, he'd be a brilliant signing. Some of them reckon he's better than James McCarthy!

I know these are clips of the fella, but he looks strong, determined, and very focussed. Whether or not we get him, it's good to see Nigel acting decisively and not staring at his belly button until two weeks before the season's about to begin.

...I can't believe we'd have offered £100k plus Taylor...does seem a bit low?

I reckon £350,000k plus Taylor and hefty add-on's and he'll be here...whether that spells the end for Coady, who knows..

Wikipedia also quotes Allan (sic) Sheehan as having signed for us. Can anyone else smell pork?

If that's so, another grunt with too much time on his trotters.

I wonder who the massive have signed? Surely, after last season's spectacular stabilising slump into mediocrity, the piggies have a right to expect something better this season?

£100k plus Taylor is a larger bid than we paid for Flynn, Murphy and McNulty if reports are to be believed. Seems reasonable to me.

A local paper up there believes 300-500k plus Taylor as a makeweight. Personally, this is an ingenious way to offload Taylor because he is valued up there but worth fuck all down here. Come on NIGEL. Promotion next year. :D;).

....yeah, suppose most transfer's now are more complicated based on appearances, promotions etc with a bulk sum up front...we'll soon find out eh?

I don't recall seeing our McGinn have a shot, so I'm struggling to think what his shooting is like, but his corners are generally excellent and by far the best part of his game.

You can see the resemblance with his brother on the way he moves. I actually didn't think the video was that impressive, but their fans seem to think he'll be a world beater. He is only 19, has captained Scotland at youth level and if Clough is interested that is also something that suggests he's very promising. He's apparently played wide left most of this season, but central midfield is thought to be his best position.

His brother lack pace/mobility, is John better in that respect?

Having watched John McGinn since he broke into the Saints side, I can honestly say that in 30 years of following St. Mirren, he is the most exciting youngster we've had come through by quite some distance and in that time, we've had a few lads who have gone on to forge decent, if unspectacular careers in England. Namely Jamie Fullarton, Simon Lappin, Chris Iwelumo and your own Stephen McGinn (who was unlucky with injuries).

Our current crop is really quite a stand out though in terms of what we've seen through the yearts, we have two excellent full backs, one of whom has just broken into the Scotland U21s after his first season in our side (Sean Kelly) and the other who is being targeted by Championship sides (Jason Naismith). We also have Kenny McLean in midfield, linked earlier in the month with a host of clubs from Spurs, Everton and Swansea, to Ipswich, Wolves and Bournemouth. A brilliant technical footballer and one we are desperate to keep for another year or two.

The jewel for us is young John though, he's everything you love in a midfielder. Strong, resolute, a genuine box to box player and whilst not gifted with great amounts of pace, his retention of the ball and eye for a pass are excellent. He's just missing a few more goals from his game (but the tools are certainly there and he's far more impressive and consistent that Stephen was at his age). Within 3 months of his debut and having just turned 18, he'd kept £12m Victor Wanyama well and truly shackled in three matches he squared up against him, even putting the bold Vic (who isn't a small man) flat on his arse on more than one occasion in 50/50 shoulder challenges.

What will our board accept? I've no idea. We've seen a lot of talented players leave us for a pittance as we were in no financial state to negotiate, but we're now one of the most secure clubs in Scotland on that front. If you ask the fans, some say £300k, others, like me would expect around £500k with a lot of clauses and a large sell on percentage (much like Hamilton had with McCarthy, that's how highly we rate this lad, almost to a man we reckon we'll get more from a sell on, than the initial transfer fee).

Oh and for the record, we know our strip is shite, we hate it as well.

Cheers!

Thanks for taking the time to come and tell us about him, he sounds promising!

The Mcginn brothers as a midfield duo?......interesting, it could work

Hi Chaps.

Thought i'd sign up to give you a bit of info about McGinn but Paisley Saint has beaten me to it.

This boy is class. He was introduced to the first team when he just turned 18, helped us defeat Celtic at Hampden in a cup semi and helped us win the cup against Hearts in the final. that youtube video was made up after his first 5 appearances for the club. He has came on leaps and bounds since then and scooped pretty much every player of the year award going this season.

He is twice the player his brother was at this age, don't get me wrong Stephen was a great player too. Gutted for him, he has had so much bad luck with injuries.

He is without doubt our best player to come through the youth system since Paul Lambert. He is strong, powerful, doesnt mind rolling his sleeves up in a scrappy game he does the dirty work very well too, full of skill and turns, talented and most of all has his head screwed firmly on.

I must say if the 100K bid is true ( going by our press statement it is ) then the club have every right to be insulted. We understand teams chance their arms sometimes. We should be looking at 500k at least for him and no offence but I can see Championship teams being interested in him too. This boy can go all the way, if he goes down the right career path he will play for Scotland.

I know the English don't rate our league very highly but there are a few gems up here. Scottish lads go down South a lot of the time and are forgotten about. Some of them think they've made it and give it the Billy big bollocks. Can't see that happening with John.

We'll be gutted if he goes but not surprised.

Heres a few tasters for you guys.

I can understand the frustration with that valuation, but this is likely influenced to a large extent by the valuations of other players we've bought from Scotland relatively cheaply. Flynn and Murphy have just had excellent seasons and the Scottish press reported their fees as £150k and £100k respectively, with the reported fee for McNulty is £125k - for a lad coming off a season where he's scored 19. Scougall was apparently £400k - perhaps that's more towards what we'd be willing to pay.

Looking at his description, sounds very much like if we got him then we wouldn't get Coady back.

They are all from the Division below us mate apart from Murphy. Good talented young players though i'll give you that.

Think 500k plus add ons would be acceptable for us. Throw in Taylor too haha. He looked ok for Partick Thistle this season, didn't score too many but was a live wire.

Tbh Taylor was the best young striker in the Scottish First Division, how did it not work out?
