It would be a huge gamble given the injury he’s had. I would want him to have proved his fitness by playing a lot of minutes before spending anything on him.

I'd be happy to gamble a loan spot on him even if he's just coming back from injury. He'd only be replacing Godfrey anyway.

I wouldn't want to gamble on a permanent signing though.

Weird that people rate Hamza so highly, he was pretty dire in midfield, often dropping far too deep between or behind the centre backs and leaving us outnumbered in the middle, exactly what we don't need someone to do, especially when we're overloaded with non-creative midfielders already.

He did an OK job at right back, but yet again it'd be signing someone who could do a job at right back rather than just signing a right back.

Agreed Gnome and my point earlier in the thread, we've needed a proper right back for ages so let's sign a right back not convert a midfielder who will be on massive wages. Im sure Wilder is on this and its right at the top of his list of positions to sort out.

we need a right back that likes stepping over the halfway line. What happened to
Jonjoe Kenny?

Choudhury is a good player and did pretty well for us at RB. A bright spot in an unsuccessful transfer window. I'm not sold on him in midfield where we urgently need someone capable of progressing the ball.

Looking forward, the club urgently needs to move away from only signing players that Wilder and Hoyland are familiar with from English football. We're just not getting the value we might if we started casting a wider net. That's partly Wilder's preferred approach and partly the club's failure to build a grown up recruitment system.

The example I always come back to is Wilson Isidor, who Sunderland signed in the same window as we signed Tom Cannon, for less money, and who has scored 4 in 9 in the PL so far this season.
