Two wins without Gus

Think it says quite a bit.

1) When Hamer is fit, it has to be one of Hamer/O'Hare playing as 2 CAM's with Brooks, on current form you would pick O'Hare + Brooks as your 2 CAM's.

2) It stops the rest of the team trying to find Hamer to produce a moment of magic and actually try and find other ways to create chances.

3) We can create chances without Hamer, which was a fear being mentioned on here over the summer (and from other fans as well), and tonight we took 3 of those chances to ensure we won.

For sale , Xmas present for someone, scores from halfway line an all , get ur bids in ……weeds ??

I said somewhere in here before last Saturday that I thought we had been relying on him too much this season. I still want him back in the team to stay in one position (preferably high up on the left) rather than have a free role. Playing with 11 players has more success than having a one man team.

Hamer is a different level to anyone at the club and a match winner. Not sure we've ever got the best out of him across 3 managers consistently. For a start does anyone know his best position?

Wilder just needed that international break to steady the ship. Plus we've just played against 2 of the leagues worst teams. We'll be even better when Gus returns.

Our threat from corners definitely improves without him. I think last season the only time we scored from corners was a short run of match he and Burrows were out and Peck was on corners. See the same effect with McCallum at the moment.

First half was definitely lacking in quality without him and it felt like if we were to score it would be down to mistake / good fortune than a moment of quality.

We missed him and we will miss him while ever he’s out.

The team looks more balanced when we play a 10 with two actual wingers either side though. Friday should be Brooks - Ohare - Ogbene

When he gets fit again it’s on Wilder to find a way to maintain balance and incorporate the divisions best player. Hopefully it’s a really difficult conundrum because that’ll mean OHare has continued his good form and is un-droppable.

We have always struggled to fit both Ohare and Hamer in the same side. For whatever reason we havent found a formula that consistently works.

What seems to be becoming clear is the Ohare is more effective without Hamer in the team.

He isn't at all. He's the best player at the club by miles. Get well Gus.

You must be new-ish….its knowsnowt sense of humour….of course he knows Hamer is our best player.
It is almost comical how our best player suddenly has a few poor matches and people are questioning him.

To be honest when most were raving about Hamer being PL level and worth 25 million.
I said back then he was no Illeman N’Diaye.

What I meant was when N’Diaye was our best player, he was involved in everything, worked so hard and ran things, we were a 1 man team.
Where as Hamer might score a brilliant goal and make a brilliant pass for an assist and most Blades would give him man of match.
However in many matches last season he’d have spells where he’s disappeared and hardly touched the ball.

Hamer was our best player, regards talent….we could be playing poorly then Hamer could score or create a goal out of nothing. This is a rare skill.
However last season Hamer was rarely our most effective or our most important player. He drifts out of games too much.
The problem for Hamer this season is that he’s been ineffective (like in many matches last season) but failed to come up with his killer passes and great goals.

This season under Wilder we’ve not played massively different to last seasons 90 point season. Like last season every game is fairly tight, at least now Wilder seems to be making us defensively solid. When a game is heading towards 0-0, it’s a massive confidence booster having Hamer in your team, as you know it doesn’t matter how poorly we’re playing with Hamer you always have a chance of scoring out of nothing.

I’m not convinced there is a direct correlation between Gus being out of the team and us winning. I think main factor is the time Wilder has had to work with players and reinforce the required standards expected from players.

Although It’s been good to see the team working together to create chances and not just relying on Hamer, which it feels like do too often, Gus brings an ability to change games that none of the others have.

Is it a case of O’Hare being better when Gus isn’t there or is it just that it’s that his efforts are more noticeable?

I don’t know.

I think it’s safe to say that out of yesterdays starting line up, Cannon could easily be jettisoned to make way for Gus to return - not exactly going to make us worse is it!

Hated it for the last few years. MGW, Ndiaye and Hamer.

All great players by the way but we have relied far too much on them.
To be fair mate most successful team have one standout

Haaland, Salah etc

I think Arsenal are probably rounded, but Saka may disagree

What’s been annoying is when they’re loans, MGW, Mcatee, Hendo etc

At least Hamer is ours, for now.

Agreed, I would like to think there has been training ground work identified as mostly not all of them involves 3 players running in and a quality ball whipped in. Tanganga I would say was unlucky last night not to get on the scoreboard however it was a quality save by their keeper. Burrows and O'Hare seemed to have some fire back and a few other stand outs too. I would say that McCallum, Burrows or Riedewald (depending on who is on the pitch) should be taking them. Even if Gus is playing he should be taking up a similar position to where Peck does which in and around the D to win/have a shot from the 2nd ball if it's defended.
