Two wins without Gus

I’ve never really bought into the idea that objectively (alright subjective but it’s as close as you’ll get with Hamer) good players can make your team worse. If the team tries to go through him too much that’s on the team/coaching. If O’Hare and Hamer can’t play together then one of them will have to be benched, that’s more a tactical thing for me, as I don’t believe it’d get better with a different CAM.

yes for me hamer has to come back in and dont think him and o'hare in the same team has worked for me hamer for 65/70 then bring o'hare on to run at tiring defenders

I’d agree that there’s not a definite correlation between Gus getting injured and us suddenly winning. However I do think we need to develop a way of playing which isn’t just reliant on Gus pulling something out the bag.

It’s a whole team mentality thing. To be honest, I can’t remember us playing especially well as a whole team, not reliant on one or two players, for an extended period of time since Wilder’s first spell. Norwood was vital as part of that but it felt like he brought the best out of everyone around him. Every good side we’ve had since has been overly reliant on either MGW, Ndiaye or Hamer.

Here’s hoping a Hamer absence gets us playing in a way which brings the best out of everyone, and Hamer can slot seamlessly into it and bring his attacking flair in a way which doesn’t knock everyone back down (whether his fault or not).

I think rotating Hamer and O Hare with the starter doing 60 minutes and then the other coming on would be the best of both worlds. Hamer shouldn't be taking corners with Peck on the edge of the box. It should be the other way round.

Agreed there with the corners and the rotation, although free kicks especially if we are trying a new routine could be done with Hamer taking. McCallum, Burrows or Riedewald for corners for me, Hamer in and around the D, we seem to have 3 that run in and split, allowing for a bit of confusion which allowed the Tanganga chance in the 1st half and our 1st goal in the 2nd. We really don't need to overcomplicate things when realistically we don't have the quality. There are sometimes individual brilliance and on occasions but other than that, we need to be back to basics tighten up the defence, to become hard to score against and play to our strengths.

Hamer is a different level to anyone at the club and a match winner. Not sure we've ever got the best out of him across 3 managers consistently. For a start does anyone know his best position?
IMO, his best position is CAM, with a competent midfield destroyer in the side to give him the license to roam. Hamer is one of those players that you don't shackle, you put him on the pitch and let him do his thing. Even our of form he is still capable of moments of magic. That's invaluable

Its a very sheffield united fan thing to decide one of, if not our most talented player doesn't work well for us anymore. I often wonder if it's because it will suit the narrative when he leaves too.

Sure sometimes a big sale can enable us to strengthen a few positions. But it still means we miss the player that's left.

Hamer when back fit will have to win his place back in the side, but as we all know when on form he is right up there with the best in this division.

Wilder just needed that international break to steady the ship. Plus we've just played against 2 of the leagues worst teams. We'll be even better when Gus returns.

I wouldn't say that Watford are one of the worst teams. Not promotion contenders, but not one of the worst. I expect them to finish around where they are currently. Bang in the middle of the table.

From what Wilder said there's a chance he is back after Preston for one of the three games before the international break.

Personally I would throw him into the mini pre season he says Arblaster is on...

The worst players in the 2 games were Barry and Cannon respectively. Replace them with Hamer and the team is instantly improved

Yeah. Hope the player of the year never plays for us again.
He's fucking wank.
Didn’t read the OP like he was suggesting Hamer shouldn’t play, and/or is suddenly wank.

Pretty measured OP imo. Also, his point about it being good that we can play well and win without such a good player, ie “not a one man team”, is totally valid.
