Tottenham at home we won 6-0 venables was the manager
Best, game, ever! (That doesn't include any Derby matches)
Sherringhams face when he thought he'd score only for it be tipped around the post, he then proceeded to smash the ball into the back of the kop like a mardy little kid!
I was stood right at the front where he was and he got some right grief :-D

Ian Butler I believe also played . He was a Barnsley lad. Did Terry Neil play for Hull in that game ? Simpkin was the main culprit and the kop let him know it.
That's right,Terry Neil played for them..I was on the Lane End that night..it seemed like they were all at it,kicking us all over the pitch...Must admit I'd forgotten about Simpkin.
WB's O/P brings back some great memories..that Cardiff game was about my favourite, clung to the white fence on the Kop,right behind the goal...also Forest was another. The one I missed was the Liverpool game..remember seeing Gary Hamson's goal on TV the day after, and what a line up Liverpool had back then.

I posted the below elsewhere about 2 months ago

The teams for that night were; John Hope, Len Badger, Ted Hemsley, David Powell, Eddie Colquhoun, Trevor Hockey, Alan Woodward, David Ford, Bill Dearden, TC, Gil Reece, sub : Geoff Salmons.
Hull: Ian McKechnie, Bill Baxter, Roger DeVries, Billy Wilkinson, Terry Neill (player-manager), Chris Simpkin, Malcolm Lord, Ken Knighton (later to play for Wendy), Chris Chilton, Ken Wagstaff, Ian Butler.

Early in the game, Gil Reece gave us the lead beating Ian McKechnie to a bouncing ball to poke it into the net at the Kop End. Hull (especially Bill Baxter- nasty ex-Ipswich player who had a fight with Bobby Robson in the manager's office after being dropped from a 1st team game-, Terry Neill, Chris Simpkin and Ken Knighton) were playing dirty and we relitiated back. After about 30 minutes of the game, the ref blew his whistle and called all players to the centre circle to ask them to "cut out the rough stuff" but Hull took no notice of the ref's warning and carried on playing dirty. In the 2nd half Chris Simpkin equalised with a powerful shot. Near the end, Ken Wagstaff (always scored against us) got the winner

To add to this..... Hull might have won the battle but we won the war (as Grecian says) by getting more points than Hull did for the rest of the season and we got promoted. The attendance that night was over 40K

Bradford City 1981-82 season Never want to be down there again but did enjoy the season
Game finished 1-1 but it was so important we didn't lose that night as Bradford were on a good run

There was also a night sometime when some other team was playing and we weren't They lost unexpectedly and we got promotion as a result. it wasn't a night match but I recall hearing the roar across Sheffield as the result was on the radio Anybody recall exactly what is was?

Nothing finer than a night match at BDTBL IMO. The atmosphere can be special. Not been so good in recent years but it will return. Meanwhile, memories of 10 good ones:
1. Feb 68 - Tottenham - Won 3-2
Incredible night. Currie scored on debut blinder. Certain we would avoid relegation playing like this. Wrong.
2. March 71 – Hull City – Lost 2-1
Despite the defeat, this match has to be included. 40,000 crowd. Hull City were an absolute set of animals and their intimidation paid off. Referee gathered all22 players together at one point to issue a mass warning. Thought we had blown promotion. Wrong.
3. April 71 – Cardiff City – Won 5-1
How to perform when it matters. It was either us or Cardiff for promotion and this was the decider. 43,000 crowd. Unbelievable atmosphere but some nerves when Cardiff got it back to 2-1 and playing well. Currie, Dearden and Reece had other ideas. Thought we had secured promotion. Right.
4. August 71 – Leeds – Won 3-0
This superb Leeds team were at their peak. They lost occasionally but no-one took them apart. Until tonight. 41,000 crowd. 3 second half goals, one scored whilst whingeing Leeds were surrounding the ref, no doubt as instructed by Ron Devious.
5. Sept 73 – Arsenal – Won 5-0
When United wanted to play they were a match for anybody but just not consistent. 4 up in 17 minutes and Currie memorably sat on the ball, but one of only 7 home wins in the season.
6. August 78 – Liverpool – Won 1-0 (League Cup)
Most unlikely win in my 50 seasons. Liverpool, European Champions, had Rush and Dalglish up front against our Andy Keeley and John Matthews at the back. But young Steve Conroy had a blinder in goal and Sabella set up Hamson for the winner with our only attack in around the 80th minute. Happy Harry dropped Conroy for the next round. Crazy days.
7. Feb 91 – Man U – Won 2-1
We were virtually relegated by Christmas and safe by Easter and this win was vital. Man U had a weakened team but were still formidable. Deane and Bradders saw us home.
8. Mar 98 – Coventry – Drew 1-1 won on Penalties (FA Cup, 6th round replay)
Great game. Taken apart early on by Huckerby inspired Coventry but got back in the game through Dellas power in midfield supported by Borbokis and Quinn on the flanks. Reg Holdsworth’s last minute equaliser sparked off an unbelievable atmosphere for extra time and this inspired Alan Kelly to save 3 Coventry penalties in the shoot out.
9. May 2003 – Forest – Won 4-3
Many fans favourite game. Fine example of the never say die attitude that Neil Warnock brought to the club. I watch the You Tube clip over and over. I have no problem with long ball football when it is played as well as this. Thought we were certainties to go up. Wrong.
10. Dec 2006 – Arsenal – Won 1-0
Strictly speaking, not a night match but it was dark so it counts for me. Another Warnock backs-to-the-wall classic with the team showing the kind of bottle that is just a distant memory these days. Nade scored a beauty and the Blades held on with Jags in goal and Arsenal rampant. Proud of the players that night. Proud. Hope I can use that word again soon. Thought we were certainties to stay up. Wrong.
some great nights there cant disagree with any

Forest at home for first win in div 1 , ( well it was dark ) think it was 17 ? Matches

Was"nt at the match but when going home from Fellbrig in Norfolk park , one of my mates , shouting oi Beeffy united are slaughtering Arsenal at the lane , you could hear the crowd from my house . UTB.
think it was a saturday mate.. it was December after all
are you the guy who wrote his name all over the city??..tut tut ;)

Was at all the 1971 games brilliant memories. Although the Cardiff game was more significant beating is the I remembered enjoying most. For sheer comedy gold our 7-3 win over Northampton in div 4 takes some beating. Speaking of which beating Wigan in same division was an exciting night 1-0

:D
it was the two 'f's that gave it away. i used to think. why two bloody f's ;)
When I was younger ( much younger at this stage ) , I used to carry a bit more timber ,
so when people used to see me as a nipper " they used to say " here's Beeffy , O Keeffe , two 'f's in my second name so when I used to put the name on the odd bus stop that's why I did it .
Strange but true .

Make yer mind up!

Could you mean Tuesday 15th May, 1984? (thirty years tonight!) Hull played at Burnley in the 3rd Division & had to win 3-0 to pip us to promotion. They quickly went 2-0 up but, roared on by hundreds of Blades, they couldn't get the third!!!

I'm sure most have been covered but we don't seem to lose many at night or am i just remembering the good times?

A night match memorable to me for different reasons; I remember I had just started going out with a girl I had liked for ages, she hated football but for our first Valentines night together I took her to Bramall Lane as I had a season ticket and treated her to one as well, romance was alive and kicking at that time folks. It was a game in Warnock's reign against Grimsby in the early 2000's, we were losing one nil (I am pretty sure it was the night Kabba tore us a new one and we applauded him off) when Tongy popped up with two late, late goals to win it two one.

I thought it was brilliant. Not long afterwards she left me, citing this match as one of the reasons! Imagine if we'd lost!

She was from Lancashire originally anyway so it would never have lasted.

The Man Utd in '91 was my first night match and my first time on the Kop. Stood at the front 1st half, but thankfully retreated to the back corner for the second half.

That was 17th September 2002. No wonder she dumped you if you thought Valentines' day was in September :-)

As it happens, Grimsby went 1-0 up early on, Allison equalised with about 10 mins left and Tonge got the winner in the last min.

My memory playing tricks Darren could have sworn it were Valentines day, if Tonges goal was a cracker from the edge of the area it was that one. Her birthday was in September so must have been that. Ha, no wonder she left me!

Games on Valentine's day since 1980

1981 A Swindon L2-5 (Kenworthy pen, Hatton)
1987 A Millwall L0-1
1993 H Man Utd (FAC) W2-1 (Hoyland, Hodges)
2006 H Reading D1-1 (Dyer)
2009 H Hull (FAC) D1-1 (Halford)
2012 A Huddersfield W1-0 (Collins)

So, it must have been her birthday. Call me picky, but taking a girlfriend to watch United v Grimsby as a birthday treat doesn't strike me as the act of a man with romance flowing through every fibre of his being :-)

Bill Shankly took his wife out on their wedding anniversary to watch Tranmere Rovers RESERVES!

I remember that, we pissed on them and when they had a couple of moments when they actually looked a class above, Alan Kelly made a normally match winner, amazing save, look REALLY easy. I remember Teddy having a strop. Also that Cundy was awful.
