Why didnt we bring Mcburnie back?

This thread has to be a piss take.

McBurnie got pelters from the majority (subjective) of this forum, for the majority of his time here, suddenly he's our saviour!
That’s always the way, always has been. The fact is that no striker will thrive playing in the style that we currently do.

I was worried that it was a backwards step, longer-term. I felt it was a sensible step, in the more immediate term.

Right now, it's clear that he is much better than anything we have.

6 goal involvements (3 goals, 3 assists) in 6 league games (more in the cup).
Yet we have absolute fucking morons on here saying we should be aiming higher.
How's that panning out for us eh Blades?

At least you knew Ollie would get stuck in and give it his all, not like this current batch of losers
I wouldn’t have minded seeing McBurnie back so it wasn’t as though it’s a case of asking for better. WhatI will say though is would he have been up to the prem (I know I know but that was our aim at the start of the season)? He didn’t exactly light it up in Spain.

My one escape, my one constant, Sheffield United, is slipping away.

I understand your concerns, and your frustrations, because I share them, but let me assure you, The Crab, our beloved club is not slipping away. Here's why:

Sheffield United is not slipping away. Because Sheffield United is us. And we are still here. That's the deal. Players come and go, managers come and go, coaches come and go, owners come and go, CEOs come and go, board members come and go. The one constant is us - always has been, always will be.

Sheffield United is not slipping away, because you care enough to post about them on this forum, and I care enough to reply to you. One Blade to another Blade, and all the other Blades who care enough to keep posting, to keep discussing, to keep supporting, to keep passing on our love for our club from one generation to the next.

I bought a programme on Saturday, and noticed on the birthdays page, that the oldest Blade celebrating their birthday on that page was 100, and the youngest 3. That's why Sheffield United is not slipping away - because the 100 year old has not given up supporting us despite all the heartaches, and the 3 year old has only just got started. We're all still here. The 100 year old, the 3 year old, and all the rest of us.

We can do very little, if anything, about Sheffield United as a business entity - we have to let the owners deal with that, and trust they'll do their best. And, no, the signs aren't great, but we have to leave them to it, because we have no choice.

But the Sheffield United essence - the shared experiences, the heroes and legends, the fantastic moments, the outstanding memories, the love for the club, passed from one generation to the next - the Sheffield United soul, if you like - that's down to us. It can only slip away, if we let it. And we're not letting it, because we are all still here. And we are Sheffield United. And Sheffield United is us.

He's decent at this level. Shame he got bought for big money to deliver at a higher level and fluffed it (cost us Europe with his meagre goal tally whilst everyone else was playing above themselves). Also shame about that season where he scored 0 in the Championship - that was hard to forgive or forget. Two key things there that have made many Blades salty about him including me. But yeah for the right price at this level he's well worth having, just have to sell if you get promoted.

As to why he didn't come... By all accounts Robbo told McBurnie that Selles is a buffoon and to steer well clear.

Because we apparently had to move on for some reason. Be such an improvement on what we have now
Yeah ridiculous sentiment.

He is capable at this level and we needed strikers.

But wouldn't be surprised if Robinson advised him not to join though. He really didn't buy into Selles. Mind you I think most have the squad didn't in the end.

As much as it would be nice to have an option like Oli McBurnie up top, the ex player we should have gone all out for when he became available is Tommy Doyle. Our centre midfield is crying out for a figure like him.
We don't need another smallish midfielder

It should also be pointed out that common knowledge is that we offered McBurnie £10k per week less than the Humberside Jungle Cats did, over a shorter contract.

Separately, if Robinson did that he should have been bombed out before the first match of the season.

How desperate is it that we harp on about Mcburnie?

We want the past back. The warm, cosy, 'one of the boys' image that was at odds with his output and value for money.

Living in the past is where too many of you are.

We're deep in the sh*t now but, yes, let's pull in someone else who might, might just do something and, if not, it doesn't matter as he's 'one of us'

Really?

Worth noting that McBurnie’s record under Wilder wasn’t great. It was Hecky that really got a tune out of him.

Maybe theyre all driven out by the negativity and vitriol from on here, and would never come back.

I was surprised in a way that Wilder did to be honest.

After all there are some for whom nothing is good enough.

After all we should be permanent residents in the PL and playing in the Champions League.
Nah, we can leave that sort of ambition to your Bournemouth, Brentford and Brightons.

And look where Hecky is now, compared to us.

I wonder if PH fancies digging his way back into BDTBL as Wilder did to him?

That would be interesting to watch play out.

Or Hecky isn't that desperate and can work elsewhere?

We don't need another smallish midfielder
I'd argue that we need a midfielder who is comfortable in possession, not shot-shy and comfortable playing box-to-box. Doyle would have been an upgrade on Peck and a good replacement for Arblaster. Replacing Vini Souza is another issue.

4 goals and 4 assists in 7 games says he is far better than anything we have currently.

Because he didn’t want to be a bench warmer. Let’s be honest here we all thought (ability wise) Tyrese was untouchable as our number one striker.

Brought a tear to my eye that

He should have bigged up Selles and said that he was the best manager since since Xcisco Munoz.
