Wilder mentioned in the presser how important it was for us to have Tom Davies back, and that's something i just don't get.

Sure, he may be a good player when he's not injured, but he's made 16 starts for us over 2 seasons. How can a player that is available so infrequently be so important?

I can only assume that Wilder said it for motivational reasons.

He has a thing for his injury prone recovery projects. As you say it might just be padding the players ego but he’s been the same in the past with the likes of Brewster etc…

More to do with having experience more than anything else in the middle of the park.

Don’t get it personally, if you’re good enough…….

Need to avoid Davies / Shacks type signings going forwards as the risks, clearly, out way any potential advantages.

I think he tries to big these players up as much as possible as he probably thinks if they feel like a key part of the squad that gives us the best chance of getting them up to speed and keeping them fit.

It's also the fact that he's our only experienced option for the midfield 2. Peck, Matos, Soumare, Arblaster are all aged 20-22 and havent played much first team football.

Not checked but Davies has probably played around as many first team games or more than the others combined

Probably a bit of wishful thinking. Tom Davies, when fit, is the best and certainly most intelligent player we have by some distance. Him and/or Arblaster being fit and available for the whole of last season would have seen us score a lot more goals and be promoted automatically in my opinion. Our forward play and chance creation is so much better with one of them in the team.

As a certain webmaster remarked to me on Boxing Day before we got Burnleyed, when Davies is fit it's a bit like having an older brother come to a kickaround. He's head and shoulders above pretty much every other midfielder in the Championship but the reason he's in the Championship is because he's chronically injury prone. I just hope we've given him chance to fully recover this time around because his injuries in the second half of last season were exacerbated by needing him to play four full matches in 15 days over Christmas.

When he was coming up at Everton, he looked like a surefire future England international. He probably would've been too, had he not had so many injuries. He is clearly too good for this level when he's fit. Problem is he never is.

He does have interesting hobbies, however. His chopstick furniture looks pretty cool.

He can't manage 2 games together and can't even manage 90mins, great player but his body's made of glass sadly😕

Davis is a much better player than Brewster when fit if he stays fit then we have one of the best midfielders in the division

hes a brilliant player when hes fit hes just been plagued with injuries hes someone we need to be fit and playing regularly

The only time he has been match fit for a run of games while he's been here was towards the back end of last year when we were down to the bare bones and had no other midfielders. Suspicious.

He actually managed a run of 8 games back to back last season, 6 of which were 80 mins +, mainly while souza was injured. As Balham said, it was this period over Christmas that did him in really.

It's such a shame that we can't get him fit and keep him fit, because there's obviously a quality player in there. What is his latest injury? And Shackleton's?

Never mind, found it. Calf injury. This was reported in preseason and we're past that time frame now.

Not in a Wilder team surely Nick 😉😂

Has the Wilder return effect made us all excited for the season now 😁

"He's always bloody injured and picking up a right packet every week, I'll just throw him on off the bench everytime he's not handing in a sicknote"

Staying fit is clearly an issue but as far as I'm aware he doesn't have a single injury limiting his career, so there's the possibility he could end up having a good run a la Brewster.

He's also the best midfielder we have.

If I was manager, I'd want him involved ASAP.
