The two areas we need to see some improvement on from the incoming management team is discipline and fitness. I’d hope experienced operators will see what happened last year and make some moves to address this.

The former might be an addition of a Sports Psychologist or someone to work on this - for both players and staff. We get the good stuff from CW in that he will galvanise and get this team firing and working hard, but the flip side is I think you can see the emotional pressure come to bear - we saw that at Wembley and in a couple of key matches in the run in. Was the same for the players. If I was COH or senior club management I’d look at this.

The other is tapering off at 75 minutes. The players need to be fitter. I think Selles seemed to work them hard so perhaps the base is better, but a lot of players still lack of a full pre-season. I’d look to be bringing in a fitness staff who can ride the players a little harder - we have a bigger squad this time around with more depth.

Let’s hope CW and COH have learnt lessons from last year having had some time to reflect. 👍👍

I agree with what you posted but let's remember that not everyone genetic make up is the same hence why some players will never get any fitter/ conditioned than they currently are and others will.

Can’t see him getting on board with having a psychologist in, wasn’t he moaning about “Do-gooders, psychologists and lefties” a few years ago?

I’m hopeful that Matos and Soumare will add some legs in midfield. Ogbene if fit is a hell of a lot more dynamic than JRS. Overall I think there is a bit more there to work with.

Outwith the above, we’re crying out for a McBurnie type up top IMHO to add some physicality. And some speed as well.

Considering we have used sleep experts in his time I suspect a shrink wouldn't be too far a step

Here's Chris hussey talking about the mental health issues he had with us and how the doctors at the club helped him

That’s just the club doctor spotting an issue and referring him for treatment, it’s nothing to do with the wider management team or sports psychology.

The managers response was to bin him off and send him to Swindon on loan, which I can’t imagine helped a great deal.

I specifically remember us having a sports psychologist in Wilder's first tenure

Not sure why he left and if he was replaced. What I do also recall is we had no such fitness issues in that first version of Wilder - so much so that our championship team was almost the exact same team through to the 9th placed finish week in week out.

That injury to O'Connell was a killer blow for us.
