On a serious note, now that Selles has gone, I’d like to thank him.

I never wanted him, like many and he was a surprise change of direction, a bold gamble by COH. It didn’t work, but that’s not to say that Selles wasn’t welcomed. He was. He had a big banner.

It was a bizarre appointment by COH and I’ve no doubt that he’s probably a good coach that understands coaching players. He has some strong ideas on how he wants his side to attack and of course stats will show that we had possession in high areas on the pitch.

It’s not enough in this day to attack so recklessly and play with wingers that don’t know how to supply a striker or defend when needed. It’s also not enough to play without a central midfield. Yes we have to play to our strengths but the failure to even research the opposition is always going to end badly.

Selles will have known who and what he was replacing, he knows who will replace him. It was a tough place for him to come into and change the mentality from a structured and organised side to become a carefree attacking side. It may have worked but it was unlikely to.

The owners set him up to fail, he wasn’t the right man and they took so long to back him with suitable players that he ultimately had no chance. The American Clients I’ve worked with gave me a saying “setting you up for success”. COH didn’t do this and if anything they created a hole for him to climb out of with no tools until the last days and hours of the transfer window.

Selles will go elsewhere and do alright as a coach, he may even learn from this to become a better league one manager. But for now he’s not at his level.

Selles, took his chance and had a go. It didn’t work, but it’s time to move on for everyone. Good luck for the future and thanks for trying.

Sadly I think he is in the same arena as Slavissa. Wanted a certain style that 99% of the squad could not muster.

Apart from Hamer I don’t see one high class player in our squad.

At least Wilder will get a tune out of the players but don’t ever dream of becoming a prem class team under him.

He came in, had a go, wasn't intelligent enough to realise where the obvious flaws were, was too stubborn, got the sack after leading us to the worst Championship start in 30 years. He was quite simply, crap.

To top it off, hes probably leaving with a quite lucrative pay off (even if the club will probably have had pre agreed contract break clauses in his contract so won't be paying the full 3 years compensation).

Awful manager / coach. Good riddance. Nothing against him personally, but he is like the fella you see from time to time in the senior management corporate world where they come in, sound very impressive with all the new corporate jargon buzz words, usually have a stylish power point presentation, and then when they have their foot through the door, you realise that they are clueless, talk in riddles, and have no performance substance. He was a charlatan. I have no feelings for him positive or negative, just glad hes gone before he did any more damage to our club.

I’m not sure he deserves thanking, he’s left us in a terrible position with a massive mountain to climb. Couldn’t even get us a single point on the board, an embarrassing effort.

Terrible coach ….. poor man management skills. Overall not good enough for a club of this size with promotion aspirations. Can’t see him ever getting a job as a manager above League 1 level in England again. Board did not help him with very slow summer window….. but overall a terrible appointment.

He was put into a hard position but he had a go and even on Friday after a heavy defeat, he didn’t shirk the responsibility. I’ve got respect for him now that I didn’t have before he came in (I’d never heard of him), but I’m glad he’s gone

Intelligence wasn't a problem. Championship football experience was. He was shown to be inept at this level before taking on the job. It's one of if not the best level of football in the world. Experience will nearly always beat Intelligence.

Wish him luck, but maybe he might want to look for a career change.
Relegated with Southampton
17th League One with Reading.
Survived relegation on final day with Hull then sacked.
League games this season with SUFC played 5 lost 5 - worst start to a season I can ever remember, basically stole a wage and no doubt a payoff.

Sure Dave Bassett said in his biography the club have no vision and after all these years that still remains, no long term football structure and to quote pinchy we are only happy with the muck n nettles approach.

To neutrals last season Wilder was krypton
Ite to neutrals this season we are a laughing stock. Every football fan will want us to lose every game and the wilder is a wanker chants will be back

I have no qualms with Selles the idea was right sadly the board picked the wrong man.

And would you also suggest that American clients are impressed by a bloke who has been to University got a masters degree and speaks four languages over a bloke who has lived and breathed football for 40 years. I think they need to learn quickly that this really isn’t their world.

Came in & his only tactic was the high press .. never saw any shape or structure to us or any clue of how to move the ball through the lines & create anything , one shot on target in 3 away games illustrated that . Persisted with 433 when sides were overloading us down the flanks & never showed any tactical nouse to remotely combat it .
The blokes a fraud .. and the players knew it & were having none of him .. good fkg riddance .. he might mske a career in league 1 or 2 .
There seems to be a growing trend nowadays for a young trendy coach complete with iPad over some very good experienced coaches who some love to label ‘dinosaurs’ .
I would have loved to have seen Robins personally been given a chance with a half decent squad but after Stokes start & the wages he’ll be on there it wouldn’t happen ⚔️

Problem for Selles in terms of his career, he's in the same boat Lampard found himself in, but in a lesser league than Lampard.

Really liked Lampard as a player and as a manager, but after his Everton stint I thought he was done as a manager, especially in the top flight.

Then he comes back down to the Championship and gets Cov into the playoffs, which has quickly repaired his managerial credentials.

Maybe Gerrard should do the same if he wants to continue as a manager.

That's what Selles has to do if given the chance, either go back abroad or go back to L1 and rebuild the reputation he built for himself at Reading which got him the Hull job.

Yes, thanks for ruining our season and leaving us with some terrible loans and signings

I'd buy that if we hadn't just completely overhauled the squad. If he couldn't get his players through the door, that an issue.

However, l suspect it points to the bigger issue at the club - we need a better recruitment/DoF structure to ensure a manager/coach gets the players they need.

A decent enough bloke who never hid when it went wrong just not up to the job no ill feelings from me. Not sure it was all his fault the summer recruitment has been shockingly bad. I watched the football league highlights last night and to be honest half the teams looked way better than our pedestrian squad, loads of movement, pace and fantastic attacking play FL's Coventry city looked very good I'm not sure peak Wilder will do a lot with this squad who look way off the rest.

Do you really think Selles chose who to sell and who to replace these players with?

I said at the time Selles was a poor appointment. But you can’t blame him for things out of his control. If he had the players you had at the end of last season you would be in a much better place now. Those running your club have made your squad very average at best very quickly.

He seems a decent bloke and I wish him all the best.

His tenure will be remembered as a bit of a joke though. How he was appointed and his lack of any sort of relevant performance on his CV, in hindsight (or not) really was ridiculous. He then didn't help himself though, talking about attacking football with a high press, and then serving up something that was so poor from an attacking sense that it was beyond belief, with no press to be seen. That's before you even get to team selections and performances.

I think when he's had a few days to process it, he'll be as glad as us fans that it's over.

He had one game maybe two with all them new players.

I suppose very few people, if offered a better job than they ever imagined they would get ,would turn it down.

So to.that extent, the main people to blame for this shitshow, are the AI obsessed owners.
Correct

Selles didnt hold a gun to their heads . Rank poor recruitment - now we have improved things 10x worse than they were come full time at Wembley . Unbelievable naivety, back with Wilder ——FFS this suicide club

No but I reckon he will have had a big say in who we brought in. Bindon signing for example has Selles fingerprints all over it
