I wasn’t going to bother with this given that I didn’t think Ruben would last the month, but here we are in September and he’s still here, so lets get started.

We are only 8pts off the Playoffs and to put that into perspective it wasn't long ago that the 10pt lead over Boro had the bedwetters changing their bedsheets every day 😉

If you want a positive spin on it.

If he can achieve his Reading FC overall PPG (1.538) with us this season, we finish on ~70pts which is there or there abouts for 6th place.

We obviously have a better squad and are expected to finish up there whereas Reading were not so if that PPG can raise to 1.65/1.70, we'll be in the Play Offs.

Small sample size, so normally I’d say it’s stupid to make a decision after just 4 league games.
However if anything…..the performances have been more concerning than the results.

It really looks like the players have just met up and either don’t know what they are doing
Or they are just following instructions resulting in their normal game being restricted.

Selles has now had a full 2 weeks to study all the match videos, analyse what went wrong and come up with a team and tactics to make us better.
Don’t think you can ever guarantee a good result (especially away against a really good team like Ipswich).

However I really think a manager should be able to gaurantee a decent/ good performance where we show good character/ effort
And more importantly show that the players have been recently coached and have an idea what they are supposed to be doing.
Also will be interesting to see Selles in game substitutions which will hopefully make sense and make us look better.

If we again look clueless against Ipswich then surely Selles has to go……altho it wouldn’t surprise me they give him 1 more game (home to Charlton).

I’m of the same mind. It seems ridiculous to get someone so soon, but performances are an early concern.

He, and the players need to improve.

Quickly

Get rid and 8 points is nothing.

Keep clueless and it's hard to see us getting more than 8 points this season.

I would suggest that it’s been so bad that there should be more than ‘concern’ and the reaction should be more than ‘improve quickly’. Having now been backed by significant investment in players I would suggest the awful performances and inept management witnessed calls for ‘vast improvement in performance extremely quickly that yields comprehensive wins over a sustained period’. He seems miles off being able to deliver that.

What a F up.
The arrogance of our owners is beyond belief - apparently believing they could AI their way out of the division - getting rid of the manager who got you 92 points last season who built that team more or less from scratch only to fail cruelly in the lottery of the play offs.
Sure your best defender and your best defensive midfielder left but I'm sure Wilder would have had suitable replacements lined up there and then.
And I don't think he would have agreed selling Moore without an adequate replacement.
But they sold Moore and now we have zero aerial ability up front.
Never mind though, we've now got 6 or 7 CB's. That'll do the trick.
I know many on here wanted Wilder gone, incredibly quite a few because of his arrogance/uncouth nature?
He wasn't paid to be nice, he was paid to get points and built a system that suited the players he could get.
Instead it seems the new manager is intent - or was intent on vertical football whatever that is, 4-3-3 but it should have been evident from day 1 that such a system was totally unsuited to the crop of players he inherited. Don't put too much blame on the players.
So we fanny about for months and then panic buy at the death.
I'm sorry but I don't think the manager and owners have got a bloody clue how to run United.
I do though feel sorry for Seles and I hope he succeeds but it ain't looking too good so far.
If Ipswich Charlton are lost then I can't see him surviving. But who to get? It seems Dyche or Cooper are favoured here but both would surely play "Wilderball" and wouldn't that be a backward step?
Fwiw I'd have tried to keep Wilder and I'd have him back even now - if only to annoy some of the haters on here.

8 points off after 4 games - let's add a little alternative and possibly (who knows) more realistic perspective. It is therefore impossible to put that in terms of percentage of points achieved so far as we have zero (yes 0) points! Anyway can I borrow those rose tinted specs at some point 🤣

His D - Day will be Charlton at home, if they're still clueless at doing the basics like finding space at throw ins and passing the ball to each other then he will be fired on 90 minutes..

I hope we have a mutually agreed termination clause, let's be honest if we're on zero points after the Charlton game, he should quit on the spot.

I feel like even his Reading record isn't great, given how much praise he gets from that era. How are are in this spot with this guy?
