For me, granted it was a good bounce back from the lads losing at Wembley, but come on now.. This defensive style of football is becoming more and more unbearable as the season goes on. Yes, its coming to the end of the season, and I know were not going up but tonight's performance was a bit of a shocker in my opinion.
The game was there to be had against a timid Stevenage who still managed twice as many shots as we did even if they did go straight over the bar or directly at the keeper. And again were a side without a player scoring a goal since the only one scored was an own goal from Murphy's cross.
I wont slate Clough because his focus as I understand was to come in and keep things simple, and this he has done, but when your paying twenty quid, or there about, for a ticket, surely, or at least I do, pay to watch a game of football..??

Maybe im just talking out my arse but football at the lane is becoming a little drib drab for me.

this is the same style of play that makes us so exiting to watch, we counter so quickly and push our midfielders up when we do so. I love how were playing atm. Granted, today was a little dire, but we cant play like Barcelona every game.

Lution you're talking out of your arse, did you even go tonight?

I did indeed, iv also been to majority of away games and all the home games me old china.. And I don't expect the lads to play like Barcelona but then I don't expect them to sit inside there own half majority of the game.. Tonight was there for the taking and YET AGAIN we didn't take it

We just lack a decent striker.

It sounded like we played alright in the first half and had we got one or two decent strikers we could have had a couple of goals.

Overall I think think we doing very well considering we don't really have a prolific striker and play most of our matches almost without a striker at all.

So tonight is still a good bounce back from the loss at Wembley and we have won 10 of our last 15 league games apparently.

We took 3pts?!

I will take three points even if it goes in off the referees arse.

Granted we were wave after wave of attack as we have been this in the last few months but we did enough.

Another clean sheet, another 3 points and this when not being at our best or being defensive as you put it. I can't knock that especially when I know that despite the lack of natural, quality goalscorers we do definitely still have another gear or two in us as we have proven in recent weeks.

FFS. Someone could have warned me Len posts here too. :(

It wasn't a great game granted, i've already said as much, but we took 3 points, and that's exactly what wee need from the remaining games to keep up this remote shot of the play offs.

I don't know if my comment was worse or your's.. Your surely not still clinging on to that one are you??

1st half we were in total control and maybe should have created more, we weren't at it 2nd half but luckily we were playing against the worst team in the league. We won in the end so there is no need to feckin' moan.

I'm too long in the tooth to cling onto anything UTD related, but whilst it's still mathematically possible them we should aim for 3 points from all our remaining matches.
Do you agree ?

In reply to the thread title, my 7 year old and I thoroughly enjoyed the game. It was his first ever night match, thanks to 'kid for a quid' and bank holidays. He met a few of the players in the hotel before the game and got to thank them personally for Sunday and they all posed for a photo with him which was great, he saw the bricks in the wall with his name and those with his dad and grandad on. He bought some tat from the club shop and had a seat on the second row of the South stand just to the side of the away dugout, a view so different from his view at Wembley it's untrue. My wife is a Makem, and due to her mother working in the maternity ward in a Sunderland hospital he was born there. He also went to see Sunderland in the Capital One cup final this year and as a result his allegiances have been quite split. He lives in North Yorkshire where most of his schoolmates are dirty Leeds fans. Tonight probably cemented his allegiances for the better (ie:The Blades). He didn't stop taking about it all the way home (an hours drive at least tonight)
He was also well behaved all day...
Add 3 points into the mix and I give you a bloody good day.
Not one I'll forget in a hurry.
On my calendar the week starts on a Sunday, that makes this week quite possibly one of the best weeks of my life!
So there!

Just think slagging the team off after the last few months is bang out of order! We don't need fans like you!!

I think he's referring to the style of play more than "slagging the team off" as you put it.

We are lacking in the final third of the pitch it's no hidden secret. Like you Barry we are all immensely proud of what we have achieved this season since the blip at the start.

You pay for a ticket, you are entitled to an opinion, end of.

oh, 100% mate.. I, as most of us would LOVE to reach the play off's.. a nice end of season game clinging onto other teams results and a pitch invasion with the delight of knowing we still have a chance of reaching the Championship next season would be out of this world, but personally I just don't see it.. BUT saying that, Peterborough lost tonight so who knows ey.......

Lucian said its becoming 'more and more unbearable' which I don't think is true the lads have been superb these last few months!!!!

First of it's 'Lution', and secondly yes, the style of play is becoming a little drab, BUT like it has been repeated so many times i have to agree that 3 points is 3 points and the defensive side of the team has been surplus to requirements.

I just think that when playing against certain teams we've shown a little more on the attack side of things than the majority of the time.

Youre right Lution,I mean would say Liverpool who are flying at the mo take a one goal home victory against the bottom club in the prem..certainly not ! Oh hang on a bit THEY DID !
Fk me wnkrs !!
Stevenage are fighting for their lives,we have just played our balls out against a decent prem team at Wembley just FIVE days ago !
C'mon ,get real !
Rant Over !

I know your feeling very well.. Took my daughter for the first time early last year and its all she talks about now. Infact, that's her in my pic lol.. Gone as far as her asking me too buy Sheffield United theme'd bobbles which she wears to school on a day to day basis. We've since been to a fair few games all of which she's loved and been on the edge of our seats.

Also took my youngest daughter for the first time a few weeks back. Took a little more joy out of this one since her mothers side of the family are devote Wendys so I went all out with the t-shirt and name/number printing.. She didn't enjoy it as much as my eldest but she is only three.. (and yes she did ask to go haha).. But the look on her families faces when those pictures hit facebook gave me far too much joy haha.. They try to revert her back to Blue & White but even at her age, (im sure) she proudly disagree's
