Safe Standing and Atmosphere

I think it's more to do with SAG closing the back of the kop a couple of years ago. Club has tried everything to get us to sit down (I'm in KB4) and we won't.
Next option, make it standing in the quickest and cheapest way possible.

I,m all for it but can understand fans in those seats who want to sit not being happy with the usual lack of communication.
  • club is penalised for fans persistently standing in certain sections.
  • club decide just to make that section a safe standing area
  • fans in those seats complain they can’t sit down.

you honestly couldn’t make it up. Some people will use absolutely anything to have a moan.

More supporters want this implemented than don't. I imagine more would want over a third to be standing as well. Whatever the reason for the implementation of safe standing, it's clearly something the majority of fans want.
Just as an example. Brentford have 29% of their stadium standing. The whole home end (5k) is standing.

For the kop to have 5k, that's half of the stand.

Well I’m right above the letter S and I’ve paid for a seat this season so I shall be sitting come what may ( given the start to the season I don’t suppose I will be missing much), I know a lot of people around me (practically all of them actually) are not happy at this being foist upon them with zero consultation, so I’m guessing the atmosphere will be significantly worse rather than improved. UTB
You'll not be able to see if you sit down, so effectively they are making you stand up.

We need to accomodate everyone. Places to stand, places to sit and disabled areas. Safe standing has to go somewhere and the best place is behind the sitters.

The impression I get is that the club IS consulting with supporters.
The club hasn't consulted with supporters who sit in these seats at all. The standing area isn't behind the sitters - you would have to go about 4/5 rows further back to achieve this. If they'd done this, everyone would be happy. But the way they've gone about it shows zero respect for existing season ticket areas in those places. The fans advisory group involved in this decision making process is clearly just self serving. No consideration for consultation, access or inclusion as far as a I can see.

Can't comment about the fans advisory group as I'm not involved in it.

There are two sides to the argument and I'm just glad the club is creating more of a balance and creating something for the standers.

As I have said previously they aren't going to please everyone and I would rather our gain wasn't at a loss to those who want to sit. The game has changed a lot. I am from an age when much smaller numbers sat.

Fans voted whether they wanted standing or sitting and over 85% voted for standing. It's the standers that are getting ripped off here: we aren't getting 85+% turned to standing reflecting the outcome of the vote.

It's a compromise to accommodate the fans who already stand ( technically against ground regulations as I understand it). It can only be sorted satisfactorily if and when the kop is rebuilt with a steeper rake and a with a section designed for standing.

Wasn't the original idea of rail seating that some games would be designated for standing and others for sitting - don't know how that would have worked. Personally I'm quite happy to stand at away games but this addition of rails on the kop seems a bit cobbled together to me

Load of Bollux. How many people actually voted for this? UTB

What's the % turnout in most elections. If it's something that people feel passionately about, and they didn't take the one minute required to participate in the vote then more fool them. In fact it's worse: in many votes/elections you may hate all the options but here there's clearly one option the standers and sitters are 100% behind . If they neglected to vote, went down as not bothered and caused their side to lose that's too bad. The club can't be held responsibleness for not reading their mind.

The club's stance since then has been uniform: we unequivocally support the fan's wish for safe standing and will implement it as soon as the opportunity arises. The opportunity arose and here we are. The FAB, Bettis and other criticism are a red herring. If there's any blame, it's the fans fault for not making their voices heard

i can assume that the reason you didn’t say the actual number is because it was so small. How about this, we restrict the number of safe standing places to the number of people on the kop who voted for it. I’m going to guess it’s less than 1000. Anyway it’s a fait accompli now so I don’t suppose it matters. UTB

From the posted photo, it looks like the seats are in front of the standing area. Why won't you be able to use your seat?
You can, if you are in the designated area where you must sit down. However, if you are in the safe standing area and wish to sit down ,then you are almost certainly not going to be able to, as someone will be stood up in front, blocking your view. They've not thought this through at all. I feel sorry for people who can't stand for a long time and those who just wish to sit. Its what they paid for.

I'm clearly being thick here, but why are there any seats in the standing area? Makes no sense.
Seats remain where they are. Basically a barrier in front of you and you are allowed to stand. Its not the traditional standing as we knew it. You'll still be in your usual position and can't move around the Kop.

Seated stadiums are here and as you all know have been for some time.
This will never change.
If it did and some awful event happened with many injured the game would never live it down,
Seating is safer and easier to spot troublemakers, end of.
If ye want to stand up do it before or after the game or when the Blades score, but not too prematurely as us old dodgers cannot shift like we used to could. Thank you. ;)
There are lots of grounds where fans stand all game, in fact Bramall Lane is probably the only ground in country where everyone sits all game.

At Anfield the Kop stands the whole game, no rail seating no ones dares say a word about it or even suggests what they are doing is unsafe
