Safe Standing and Atmosphere

Please explain more specifically what you mean by this in relation to my post?
Well you say you “can’t see the problem for the armchair fans”, personally I can see lots of problems, ie being forced to move from seats they’ve had for many many years, being split up from friends they’ve made over those years, not being consulted about it etc. I can understand the desire for safe standing and am happy for people to get it…. Just not at the expense of someone else. UTB

So what does someone who isn't a psychopath do, when they look at a situation where different people want different things?
Maybe try and find a solution that suits both lots? Maybe have safe standing in an area that doesn’t require season ticket holders to move, … maybe the Bramall Lane upper stand. Or maybe wait until the kop is redeveloped to do it? UTB

We need to accomodate everyone. Places to stand, places to sit and disabled areas. Safe standing has to go somewhere and the best place is behind the sitters.

The impression I get is that the club IS consulting with supporters.

True. Ours was always going to be this situation, without a huge refurb job.
In all honesty I don't see how any of them are safer, or even what they think they are preventing. Crowd surges don't happen with seats anyway.
Worst I've suffered is by jumping about and grazing my shin.
So it’s you that wears your eco-shin-pads to the match is it?

Can't redevelop anywhere. Might require someone to move.

They should have consulted everyone that will be affected, that definitely didn’t happen. UTB

Seated stadiums are here and as you all know have been for some time.
This will never change.
If it did and some awful event happened with many injured the game would never live it down,
Seating is safer and easier to spot troublemakers, end of.
If ye want to stand up do it before or after the game or when the Blades score, but not too prematurely as us old dodgers cannot shift like we used to could. Thank you. ;)

there is nowhere near enough leg room on the kop as it stands, how TF are they going to put extra standing bars on there without making the space even smaller. Sounds like it’s going to be a complete clusterfeck. Happy to be proved wrong but imo this should only have been implemented at the same time as a complete kop rebuild. United trying to do it on the cheap ffs. UTB
Think the plan is that those that use the area will "stand" so not as much legroom needed 😂

Is the general opinion that this will improve the atmosphere?

Its hard to tell on tv if there's a good atmosphere there or not anymore, it generally comes across faily subdued, but i've got the north and baltic sea between me and the lane so I can only go by whats on tv - which might be wrong.

I think it's more to do with SAG closing the back of the kop a couple of years ago. Club has tried everything to get us to sit down (I'm in KB4) and we won't.
Next option, make it standing in the quickest and cheapest way possible.

I,m all for it but can understand fans in those seats who want to sit not being happy with the usual lack of communication.

Subdued is a fair description. The atmosphere is pretty terrible, but not much different to 90% of other stadiums these days.

Well I’m right above the letter S and I’ve paid for a seat this season so I shall be sitting come what may ( given the start to the season I don’t suppose I will be missing much), I know a lot of people around me (practically all of them actually) are not happy at this being foist upon them with zero consultation, so I’m guessing the atmosphere will be significantly worse rather than improved. There was an online vote. The overwhelming majority voted for safe standing. People did have their say. That's not why it has happened though. The club has had a shift in approach under the new owners as they've seen the stewarding costs since SCC and SAG started shutting seats down at the back of the Kop, and giving us a big matchday bill to keep the back third of the kop open. They've decided that eating the cost of implementing safe standing is better than a bill after every home game. The club's former attitude was "we support it, but not until the ground is developed".

I’m not actually against safe standing per se, but converting a third of the kop to it was way overkill. Maximum should have been maybe 20% ( which is probably the amount that actually stands anyway) and would have resulted in much less supporter dissatisfaction but, then again, when has that ever been a consideration. UTB

All the kop should be standing

Then let them grumble or move to BLUT.

I'm a purist. Kops are for standing.
You might be. But do we have 8k who want to stand all match?
I love standing and when away do so. Same as most people. I just doubt you'll get more than 1/3 or 1/2 kops worth who will.
(Or whatever kop capacity is)

More supporters want this implemented than don't. I imagine more would want over a third to be standing as well. Whatever the reason for the implementation of safe standing, it's clearly something the majority of fans want.
