What Israel has been doing in Palestine for many, many years is abhorrent.
Wouldn't be comfortable about signing him.

I am in agreement about Israel. But I don't see how he should be accountable for that.

For all we know he may have had family or friends who were murdered or hurt on Oct 7th, maybe not, but I wouldn't blame any Israeli for wanting to see Hamas wiped off the face of the earth. The feeling is most definitely reciprocated the other way.

I’ve read some utter bollocks on here over the years but being against the club signing a player (on loan) simply because of their (supposed) geopolitical views is a new low.
It’s particularly ironic given the club has recently changed ownership following a period under a KSA government minister. While you’re at it, why not list all other views / beliefs you require to be considered by the recruitment team. No Russian, Chinese or American nationals perhaps? Anyone with a view on South African or Zimbabwean regimes, or maybe even anyone that doesn’t share the same views as you on what the current UK government has implemented since coming into power? See how ridiculous it all sounds?!?!
FWIW - as long as their beliefs / views / comments are legal, it is thought they can improve the side and they want to come, I don’t give a toss. We’re talking about recruiting professional footballers here, not UN diplomats.

Agreed. We also sit here in our Ivory Towers commenting on things happening in the world when the majority of the issues have arisen due to our historical past, drawing lines on maps, making decisions we wanted to make because we did what we wanted to do.

Don't forget blades, we had a player who openly refused to acknowledge the LGBTQ+ movement as his religious beliefs were important to him.

Unless a player is a convicted criminal - lets judge them on their footballing ability

Just in terms of it being a divisive signing
Within reason I agree with Harry Bassets view that he "Doesn't sign players he wants to potentially marry his daughter but to do a job for the football club".

He's no doubt pro Israel because he's Israeli but I dont see a problem with that myself and I'm pro Palestine but granted I'm not a muslim or from an Islamic country.

Exactly.

There are actual convicted criminals who have played the game. some of which have played for us alongside various criminals who have run big clubs in the past.

You can be isreali and against genocide, although unfortunately polling would suggest that is the minority.

If you agree with the signing or not I dont care all I said was it's a divisive signing which is obvious just from reading this thread. Same arguments were trotted out when we sign King, hence my original post.

It does matter, but not to us, it's important to consider the views of the players over anything.

Had Hamza Choudhury stayed with us, I don't think we should have gone anywhere near it. If we have any players that are vocally pro-Palestine then I would say the same too.

I wouldn't want to disrupt the people already here at the expense of someone new.

It isn’t legal to support genocide.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity related to the conflict in Gaza.

🤷‍♂️

The guy is clearly a divisive figure. One thing is for sure, he'd be a real coup. I'm certain he'd be playing in the Premier League if not for his politics. He was brilliant for Leeds last season, and this would be a real statement signing (along with Tanganga). We desperately need a quality winger, and he's certainly that.

All those folk saying “politics” is or should be, in essence ‘irrelevant’ may wish to contemplate the impact of Russia (Ukraine ),‘the Bosman ruling’ & (😳) ‘Brexit’

Tangentially, the ‘debate’ may also reflect your priorities- supporting your football club vs ‘wider world’ issues.

I’m old enough to remember the impact of (sporting) boycotts pertaining to South Africa, albeit such were part of a wider & far more coherent co-ordinated approach.

I'm not sure what he's said, but I hope we don't go anywhere near this if he's on record for supporting what's going on. In the same way, I wouldn't want us signing anyone who openly supports Hamas, the Russian army, or anyone else involved in killing civilians. I don't care how good they are at football, I just wouldn't want them in my club.

Holding individuals responsible for something their nation is doing is really an ideal road to go down. Absolutely nothing bad can come from that.
We boycotted South Africa regardless of whether every white person agreed with apartheid.
Most of the world has stood by and watched Israel break every rule in the book over generations, to the point now they can kill tens of thousands of people with impunity.
On top of that, the person has indicated his support for Israel's actions.

Can we keep politics out for this thread please?

Make another thread where like minded users will engage, this is for football rumours 😏
Politics impacts on this signing (see what happened at Leeds for further details) and some things are more important to just pretend it's all about footballing ability.

Curious as to how many people that would condemn this signing participated in the popular Anel chant of last season which was created a few months after he refused to wear the rainbow armband.

In every other rumour thread, absolutely.

But in this one? No, we can't.

This is probably the most political signing we could make right now, people will want to have their opinion on it.
