There's no doubt that he has shown some ability and he has potential.

However he never scores, very rarely creates chances and assists and gets overran in midfield as his positioning is poor due to lack of experience. He's certainly not a tough-tackling holding midfielder either.

I don't see any particular issues with his attitude on the pitch but Wilder did say last year that 'He thinks he should be playing for Real Madrid and England'. Ok that's tongue in cheek but perhaps he thinks he's already made it?

He needs a strong Souza-type player next to him and better players around him, and its not his fault that several of them have been sold/gone back.

However being ruthless in the cold light of day in my opinion he's presently not adding/contributing enough to merit selection for the first team though would be interested in what others think.

He reminds me a little bit of Basham, in my opinion I don’t think he’s particularly great at anything, but one thing he does do is he tries his best. You can see it in his determination and his facial expressions on and off the pitch. He clearly loves this club and I want him to do well. He does have great potential but he needs to work on every single part of his game to become a good footballer.

Looks knackered, which is hardly surprising. But nobody else to come in

I'm not mocking him or you but there are literally thousands of people who love this club and would try their best playing for us it certainly shouldn't be a criteria for selection.

As I said on another thread, I suspect that he gets less scrutiny because he played in our youth team.

Peck's a victim of circumstance. He should have been back up to Arblaster or out on loan last year, but due to Arblaster's injury and the inability of Davies to keep fit, he was thrust into the first team ahead of his expected development. He performed better than expected, has raised fans' expectations and is now being criticized for inconsistencies in his performance levels. He's a young player who should be playing next to more experienced heads, but we're woefully short in central midfield due to negligent recruitment. He's not performing well at the moment, but the fact we're relying on him is not his fault.

100%, but i’m talking about his work rate too and not many players always give 100% like Peck does. For example with Hamer who is our best player can be incredibly lazy. Peck and Basham give/gave 100% every game even though they aren’t “good footballers”

New scapegoat incoming!! Seen someone on Twitter saying we should loan him to Rotherham
Scapegoat? We're playing shit so we're talking about the players that are contributing to the shitness.

Yeah, Ive never seen him losely give the ball away as much as he has these past two games.
I thought he'd thrive today with Soumare doing the dirty work. I've always thought he'd lose his place when Arblaster is back, but maybe he'll lose it when the Everton lad comes in.

Was that the same Sydie Peck your talking about, playing today!??
Didn't look arsed to me, jogging about instead of tracking his man, not much output from him, looks like he doesn't want to be here to me, but then again, so does half the team.
I think Wilder going has affected them a lot more than pre-season led us to believe.

I noticed both Cooper and Campbell give Peck a bollocking for not doing his job.

On the goal, he jogs back in no hurry. No doubt convinced that Sydie Peck is the greatest footballer England has ever produced.

Kid needs a wake-up call or to be fucked off. This has been his attitude all season. And that's before you take into account he plays football like a headless chicken, takes too long on the ball, gives it away all the time and breaks momentum in attacks. In footballing terms, it looks like he could be coached into a Premier League midfielder but he's not improved since the start of last season.

We need to talk about the shit owners and shit coaching team instead of focusing on our young talent.

Whataboutism.

Also he, and others to an extent (One, Seriki, Brooks) seem to be given a pass by some because of their age.

This isn't a 'make a wish foundation', this should be a professional football club where everyone is scrutinised accordingly regardless of their age. I'm not talking about scapegoating but he's a first team player presently so his performances merit discussion.

Ideally we want a few CM players who we can rotate both to keep pressure on them to perform and to give them a rest/break when things aren't going there way.

Something clearly isn't working but that doesn't mean we give up on him, we need him at the moment because we haven't got anyone else... and he knows it. He should be fighting for his place and his only competition could only take him in in a 3 legged race

Basham wasn’t great at anything?! One of the most consistent players in our best season for a long time. Jesus fucking Christ.

If Davies or blaster were fit he wouldn't be playing.

I remember reading a post on here last season asking if he, blaster or cooper would get in a England squad one day and legitimately laughed out loud. He's championship quality and young. That means he won't be at his best all the time.

I've got a lot of time for Peck, the way he stepped up last season was remarkable. None of us expected him to be a key member of our starting 11. He has to take a lot of credit for that.

However his lack of output is really restricts us and if it were to continue would restrict his potential. Right now the return of Arblaster I think will really highlight this and will improve our creativity enormously.

The saving grace for Peck is that he's young and to me it doesn't appear that it's due to a lack of skill. We see in the middle of the park that he has a good touch, can turn out of trouble and pick a pass. As soon as he gets into the final third his composure and decision making is wanting. That can be taught, can be coached and comes with experience..
I also feel getting that first goal will relax him somewhat.
He's a good player with loads of potential. We're just over reliant on him at the moment.

Young players don’t have consistency, Brooks is the same - we can’t expect brilliant performances every week from players who are just starting out in the game.

This time last year Peck was on the periphery of the team and only Blaster getting injured against Pigs gave him a chance to get into the team.

Yes he looks a bit off it so far this season and there’s potential that his head has been turned by rumours of a move elsewhere, but give him time he’ll put in more good performances than bad.

He got brownie points and an over hyped reputation last season due to being thrown into the 1st team so soon.

Stat wise he ain't great, more a love in under the circumstances relative to him getting into the team and being a youth product.

Over rated.

I've seen some pretty fucking wild nonsense spoken over the past 10 days.

Scapegoating Peck, and Basham wasn't great at anything in the same thread takes the biscuit.

Anyone looking at our current situation and deciding to start a thread about Peck really is in dire need of attention/hugging.

I felt a lot of them looked unclear about what their role is in the side today.
