Selles

Let him get the players in who he wants then give the fella 10 games to make us a force again in this league

Selles has to take his share of the responsibility, which he will, as do the owners.

But regardless of any of that, no new system, or lack of signings has made the current crop of players forget how to be footballers.

Some genuinely bizarre displays today.

Peck slowed everything down by taking far too many touches when players were running into good positions, net result, just pass it backwards instead. And I don't blame Cooper for losing it with him over their goal, for lazily jogging back after losing his man.

Seriki seemed determined to run into a dead end as often as possible.

Campbell looked like he couldn't be bothered.

Hamer made himself far too easy to mark.

And why oh why are our players tripping over every 10 seconds.

Absolute gash.

Lots for the manager to sort out, but some of that group need to sort themselves out too.

I feel for him, as a gaffer.

Like he's been set up to fail with no incoming business to support his system and football.

However, we had a GREAT side last year under CW - winning ugly is still winning and 92 points is a matter of fact- but now, we are defensively ass, we've had 180 minutes creating nothing and showing ZERO attacking football....

Just get rid before it’s too late and we can actually make something of this season. I wanted wilder out but thought we’d get someone who knows what they’re doing. Not this garbage.
Did you want Wilder out when we lost the first two and got promoted in 2016/17 and then in 2018/19, also?

That’s not me saying we will do that, just that it’s hard to judge after two games against the back drop or everything else that’s been happening.

The thing that scares me is, if Selles fails the club will likely never take the risk and appoint a European manager again. It took years and a change in ownership to recover from the failed Jokanovic project.

It is 😂 you have an agenda against the manager. That's fair enough. Don't make out like it's his fault that they can't do the basics though
I have no agenda against the manager.

I have an agenda of wanting success from my club that has a finite timeline of realistic achievement based on parachute payments. Obviously you can go against the grain like we did in 2018 or Ipswich etc but being a Burnley, Leeds, Leicester, Southampton.

First game we blame Defence, the next 2 games even the attacking football we promised went missing. The longer we wait for a complete culture change ready for the premier league the further we get from ever getting there.

Why do we need a different type of success, this is the most successful decade or so in around a century and its with playing with heart and grit which is almost a Sheffield trait. We have a working class stadium, a real fan base and a strong heritage why do we feel we need mass change.

How has that culture change gone for Stoke City?

Make no mistake I was excited by Selles in preseason, go gungho and out score opponents whilst probably conceding quite afew along the way. However we aren’t playing world beaters and we aren’t scoring enough, aren’t creating enough and look like we are demanding 90mins of 110% and every game so far we finish with nothing left in the tank from 60mins onwards and we don’t score enough in the 1st 60mins.

Would you have kept Jokanvic longer or do you accept that if after say 8 games if you can’t see a consistent plan forming we need to try and save our season?

How bad would you willing to see it get?

Hard work and grit gets you up and gets you relegated. We've seen it twice.

I'd quite like to see us get up and be competitive. That change will take a while.

Football is a harsh sport, but somethings need to happen, we are not entitled as a fan base to have a successful team, and I think that most blades know and understand that, but we still must have levels that we should be able to compete at as a club and at the minute we are not competing at those levels in my opinion and yes, we need new players, but also we have enough to be better than this, and that sits with the current below par standard manager. The manager needs to stop spitting the dummy out, realise that the current system is not suiting the players, they are not performing for him, and that he is making a bad situation even worse than it needs to be.

Thats not true is it, we didn't have a GREAT side we had a good championship team, PSG, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich have GREAT sides, and last week against Bristol City we created numerous chances and had the most touches in the opponents box than we had in over 2 years since heckingbottom was in charge so we did show attacking football

In 1974/75 we were 6th in division 1 missing out on european football on goal average The following season we were relegated and after falling through divisions 2 and 3 we finally returned to the top flight in 1990 so prepare to be patient. Our S6 neighbours are waiting even longer.
Once a downslide starts it can take some stopping.
Still early days yet but there are worrying signs. The owners decided to change direction but then have so far failed to back their new coach.

What’s this WILL take a while… It won’t happen… unless this culture change starts seeing results and performances a million miles from whatever the hell the last 3 games were about, then he’ll be sacked.

Then the new manager will need new plans as if he comes in and says he’ll do the same as the last guy then we’ll be relegated. If the club wants to persist with a plan that they want…then the pool of managers we will be picking from will be both small and likely terrible.

The thought that a philosophy change thought up by averagely wealthy Americans and implemented by a Spaniard who was sacked by Hull and slightly over achieved without actually achieving anything at Reading… will be the reason the blades have a long run in the premier leagues both comical and concerning.

I want to see success, I enjoyed last season because of the wins, the competitiveness and the players we had. Souttar, Arblaster, Baldock, Leeds, Burnley and VAR meant we fell just short or an unbelievable season that nobody expected at the start of the season.

I want Selles to work so much and for 20mins against Bristol I was like WOW but surely people knew that it wasn’t achievable to maintain that for 90mins and that unless in those 20mins we are 3 or 4 up I worry for the 2nd half. It worked better in friendlies when you can refresh your team with unlimited subs.

It's the most mystifying managerial appointment in the clubs history. Sacking the man who nearly got you promoted and replacing with a bloke who got sacked after his team narrowly avoided relegation.

And the only reason they avoided relegation was because Luton had a bit of a 'mare at West Brom.

To be fair Wilder was on 1 point after 4 games in his first season also getting knocked out of the 1st round of the league cup. Selles has had around 1 month with the team, playing against lower league opponents (in general) in meaninglessness friendlies then the backbone of the preseason squad has gone. The players need to adapt and should be able to adapt professionally. Although additions are needed

Any average championship manager would have us in the top 6

The extremity of the change made by the owners was absurd. They've chosen to throw the whole lot up in the air when not that much was wrong
So which average championship manager would you like appointted?

Many of our fanbase don't want one either.

But you will only be competitive if you spend big after you go up. To think otherwise is putting the cart before the horse.

We’ve come down the last two times because we wasted all of our money in two transfer windows, and on the second occasion made no effort to fund a competitive side while selling a generational talent.

If you churn out good players but don’t go up you’ll lose them annually. Ask Coventry.

Agree with that. The changes you can make to help stay in the PL, before you get there are almost all off the pitch, unless you have the sort of money and sway Wolves did in 17/18.

Training ground, player treatment facilities etc can be made best in class. But you can't sign the players till you get there.

We all know we’re going back to a British motivator type manager so they may as well stop fucking about and just get Dyche or Cooper in.

It’s sad that we’ll never change.
Gary Rowett I reckon. He beat us last season.

It is reeking of Slav already.

Get a foreign manager in. Don't get him the players he needs and then look surprised that the squad has no depth and you are not getting results.
A get where you’re coming from but the starting 11 was good enough today to beat teams.

Would you swap any of our starting 11 for there’s & if you would I’d still say the team balanced in our favour. There was no style of play today

I agree with that to an extent

The starting 11 doesn't win you games if you have no options off the bench to change the flow of the match.

It's been 2 games and, in this league, you can have a nightmare start and still end up getting promoted. He needs some time and a few new faces.

Got to give it at least 10 games before it's shoes off time.
