Wilder interview

I think the Wilder detractors are unfortunately going to have to admit he did a magnificent job last season eventually if they dig themselves out of the hole they dug themselves into.
He did a great job up until the wheels fell off. Some of that his fault, some of it not.

He did a huge amount for us first time, almost got us back up 2nd time. He’s earned his spot as one of our best managers, maybe the best.

But yet, all things considered, it was time for a change in my view.

That should never detract from his achievements with us

So wilder rebuilt a failed side, integrated youth, got a shape and style of play, just missed out on promotion. But the board wanted to go in a different direction! If what we heard was true the board was split on the decision to sack him then maybe what’s happening at the moment behind the scenes is is a resurfacing of that discussion. Not saying wilder back but if I was a director I’d be challenging the board re the decision, why the hell did we sack him and bring in someone with no playing experience and absolutely no record of success. Can blame the predicament of the clubs he’s managed but still no experience of promotion or building a successful side. Appreciate Sellas hasn’t been able to bring enough new players in however it seems clear to me that the players are all over the place. The shots on target and touches in the bham box to me say it all. There no evidence sellas has the wherewithal experience or track record to deliver a promotion winning side.
Maybe the biggest question for the board is do you back sellas or recognise your mistake and sack him instead
I agree. In my 57 years with the club the successful managers(won promotion) have been Harris, Porterfield, Bassett, Warnock, Wilder, Hecky. All experienced and or with promotions on their cv. The rookies we have had have a 100% failure rate. Some have managed to get us relegated. This has never been a club for rookies due the always dodgy finances. Selles has very little chance of succeeding.

It's a shame so many come on to comment while obviously not having listened to the interview.

If they had, they might get some insight into how much Wilder knows about football.

But that might challenge the views of some.

There's a lot of talk about the fans not liking the boring football last season.
But for me it was more that we put in a lot of poor performances.
I felt we led a charmed life and won quite a few games by the skin of our teeth... even though we were outplayed.
The luck started to run out at the tail end of the season and we got the results that we deserved.
We weren't a team of winners that had discovered the formula on how to win games... we were just lucky, for awhile.
I wouldn't have been confident the same team with the similar performances would have achieved similar results this season.
Fortunately for Wilder, he can wear his rose-tinted glasses and claim we would have been capable of repeating our success this season.

Unprofessional 😒 who cares? Being a fan, being amongst the supporters? Fail? Wow, I bet you hated Billy Sharp as well. Fingers crossed Arblaster doesn't establish himself as well eh?
Billy was, is and continues to be a consummate ambassador for football and, all things being equal should one day return as a club legend. Love him.

Blaster - great start but the jury will be out until he returns. Incidentally, if/ when he proves his fitness, I wouldn't be at all surprised if he's snapped by a bigger club with a more settled and financially viable ownership background.

'Unprofessional - who cares?'
American owners and businessmen. They're huge on business image and can be ruthless, and everyone at BTDBL knew or should have known that once the buyout became a probability. It's common knowledge and any level of professional research would have uncovered that in any case

IF they wanted to find out

And it wasn't enough because we lost the meaningful games against the top teams, inc the PO final

I didn’t say it was enough. I was disagreeing with you saying that CW1 was “amazing” but CW2 was not. There wasn’t really much between them. The difference was that in 2024/25 there were two other outstanding teams, in 2018/19 there was one.

Also, in 2018/19 we also did pretty badly against the other top sides. Although we beat Leeds away, we were massively outplayed.

It’s like the vegan joke…..

How do you know how much Chris Wilder knows about football?

Interview him for 2 minutes and he’ll tell you.

CW2 not the same guy at all. Not as animated, couldn't change it up, the football was, largely flat and one dimensional.

Sad really but he looked tired, less engaged, cliché ridden and the relationship with Knilly seemed far more distant. I often wondered if AK was the real power behind the front man.

I think outside of our bubble people are less hysterical over him. Look at the video after the win at Hillsborough. Every neutral account saying how brilliant it was and how good it must be to have that as your manager. It'll never happen again so the pearl clutchers win, football simply won't have any characters like that soon and they can all be happy how professional it is.

It's mainly just petty personal dislike from our fans that mean he is slagged off to a ridiculous degree.
This is so true. The same miserable moaning that Warnock & Bassett suffered. Nigel Adkins was professional & well spoken but the moaners didn't like him either.

And yet he won more games and picked up more points!

Why has chappers had filler put in his bottom lip, he looks like Sharon fucking osbourne

If it needed underlining again, there's no Blade as unhinged as the common or garden Wilder hater. It's now his fault we're wank so far this season, not the people that forced him out or the current staff 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
And there’s nothing so sad as the Wilder lovers, who can’t wait to bring him up at every opportunity, Even when there’s no opportunity.

You're ironically and inadvertently calling the Wilder haters Wilder lovers. Come to think of it they are fixated on the man. 😉. They should focus on the future as he's married

Absolutely crazy it was sacking for last season failure. Look how it is going for the club now. Would Wilder come back hard to say. The owners made a big mistake sacking him...
