Was impressed with him today, he didn't fold, he was in the middle of a shambolic defensive set up and can come away from that with little blame.
He isn't going to be commanding 'captain' at the back but it is clear he is a very accomplished defender and is still very young. For a first game at this level he did well.

A tough test for him today. He didn't fold but I thought his positioning and decision making were poor overall. However, he's a 20 year old, making his debut at a level he's not played at previously. Get Mee or Worrall next to him and he'll look a different player. Anyone would have looked poor with Seriki and RND either side and Bristol City breaking beyond Utd's midfield as though it wasn't there.

Disagree unfortunately.

Second goal he should have dealt with comfortably. He didn’t give me much confidence yet

Doesn’t seem to have any pace either but he was unfortunate with the deflection. I genuinely Don’t wish to pile on a young lad making his debut and he definitely Wasn’t as bad as RND but he needs to be with a commanding partner or I fear more of the same. Playing out is only part of defending

As mentioned by others, he should’ve done better for their second goal. It was almost as though he didn’t back himself to get there first.

Unfortunately, he was always going to be tested today having to line up alongside RND…

Not much hope playing alongside a guy who is cooked and who has barely played any football for 2 years.

Should have done better for their second goal, but other than that, I can't think of any other decisions that he really got wrong.

He needs a good experienced CB next him, and today (that first half especially) highlighted that even more.

If only we had a Soutter for him to play alongside.
Exactly, Souttar did the exact same thing with Gilchrist last season, constantly talking to him and helping him through the game (especially at first).

Just shows what a difference it makes to a young player having someone like that alongside him.

Doesn't look bad despite the 2nd goal. Decent size. But the best we could do? Surely not. Yet he appears earmarked to start every game

Exactly this. He was favourite to get to the ball first and he should have put it over the John Street stand.

At the very least he should have taken their guy out and taken a yellow for the team.

What he actually did was hesitate and let their guy win the ball and from then they always had an extra man supporting on their right.

Hopefully he'll learn and take charge of the situation next time.

That was a welcome to the Championship for him. He’ll learn.

We have zero defence

It was not a great start clearly. But I am not going to judge him on that, we have seen many new players turn things quickly. He did look good on the ball. I guess the concern I do have, is that he did look to have that much pace. I guess that is what you would be looking for in the younger centre half in whatever pairing we eventually end up with. That was obviously one of Anels key assets, that speed and his ability in recovery and also taking into account we have lost Souza who offered similar qualities when he dropped into defensive positions. Not that is to disparage Bindon, I am just thinking about the balance we will need.

Before we write off a young defender having to play alongside some of the shite alongside and in front of him, let’s just pause for a moment and remember how awful JOC looked in his first handful of games. I won’t be judging him until he’s had 10 games with proper players around him.

My concern with watching him in pre season and today is he is not quick/mobile nor very strong/commanding - so thought he migth anticipate or read things but he ispoor at that too! He was ok on the ball but defensively he was all over the place.
