since tonight's result makes it pretty certain we will be in league 1 next season do we give some of the youngsters a chance to shine in the remaining games? Although we have 1 or 2 relegation evaders to deal with the likes of Coventry will not have much to play for by the last day so why not see who can hack it at first team level.

yes, give the boys a chance. Better we try and fail now rather than next season when the points could cost us.

Yes, I remember Warnock blooding Jags, Tonge and Montgomery at the end of a season when we had nothing to play for in the league.

I'd certainly like a further glimpse of Diego at senior level plus Khan, Dimaio and Calvert-Lewin.

It would do no harm to give George Willis some game time either.

What better opportunity ?

You were on RS tonight weren't you.

I'd rather us blood one of our own youngsters rather than persist with paynter who isn't our player and hasn't done enough to earn a contract next season.

If I could double like this, I would.

Well it makes sense, even though not mathematically impossible tonight's result makes play offs a long, long, long shot so lets give some of the academy lads a boost.

Totally agree with you mate. As I said before, best to try them out now and get an idea, than next season when it could cost us a few points.

Whilst I'm all for trying youngsters, the one thing that still annoys me about the Premiership season is the team put out by Liverpool at Fulham before the Champions League final when they made about 9 changes, playing reserves and youngsters and lost the game.

I wouldn't want to do something similar and be accused of affecting promotion or relegation by not putting out a decent team or trying.

Saying that, I can see next Tuesday not being the toughest test for Rotherham. One mis-timed tackle when last man or a couple of silly cards and a player will miss Wembley, and I'm sure a number of players will be rested,

Whilst I agree with you, we have a 'get out' card with the fact we have an FA Cuo semi final on the horizon. Had this not been the case, it could be seen playing our younguns was needlessly having an effect on the promotion race, but whilst we are less than a fortnight away from an FA Cup semi, playing reserves is more than justified. After that may become slightly more tricky to negotiate, but, fuck em.

Whilst we want to keep players fresh, they still need to be involved otherwise some of our better players could be a bit ring rusty against Hull, e.g. Maguire - who has had a welcome two match suspension but in my view should slot straight back in on Saturday.

The front lads need rotating, and despite not being wonderful, I would keep Paynter despite him not being 'our' player. He is playing for his future as well and may just well turn in a performance.....(he says optimistically)

Its ridiculous we are upstaged by a club who get attendances like this, and similarly upstaged by toytown.

Need to make our mark next season.

The main worry I have is that Rotherham are going to be ridiculously up for their game against us. They'll have a big away following, are going for automatic and have a good team to boot. It will take something special to beat them with a 2nd string and I worry that throwing the kids in and getting a hammering may effect their development. It's a hard one.

I personally wasn't suggesting starting the youngsters - just give them some cameos towards the end.

Cloughie has appeared to be an advocate of this with youngsters whatever their age and it's refreshing.

This current bunch look quite good but we won't know if we've got a gem until they are given a chance.

Step by step and if anyone can bring them through it's Cloughie.

Yeah, it's likely we'll see a few start before the season is out. It's going to be a tough on to balance for Clough in the next few games

Haven't we got five games after the semifinal, that's the time to use some youngsters and apart from one game no promotion contenders.

I agree, but it's likely to be a fast and furious game, I'd prefer to keep a lot of the first team out in case of daft sendings off or injuries.

The leagues's gone, play a full ish team against Orient for a decent run out and a make a lot of changes for Rovrum, and keep the main lads out. Murphy, Flynn, Baxter, Maguire, Brayford, possibly eve Scougs and Coady - should all not play against Toytown IMO.

Play the best first team every game.
Shit happens - could just as easily rest players for the semi and they pull a hammy in the first minute - so why worry?

Get some tough games in before the semi, keep the momentum going and the activity high ready for that game - the most important of our season remaining as it's the only competition that is actually in our hands. Once that's over then assess the league situation and see what suits best from there.

No fucking pussying around - the new club motto

Thats what I'd do. I'd try and get Hill and Harris in for the Rotherham game too

Who is the Centre Forward for the U21 side? Is it Khan? Calvert-Lewin? Both?
Do they play two up front or only one like the first team?
If only one up front is he a "false 9" (like Baxter) or a target man (like Porter and Paynter)?

Never been an advocate of the "nothing to play for" brigade, 18,000 blades fans paying their hard earned money to watch a team go thru the motions shows a massive amount of disrespect, I agree with kenilworth, strongest team every game give youngsters a game if we winning or doing ok or if we get injuries or yellows not just for the sake of it.
Players get paid a massive wage to play a game most of us do for fun and if they feel a game "means nothing" then they should get a proper job and leave football to players that want to play every game.

I' saw Dimaio and Khan away at york in pre-season ... They both came on midway through the half and did ok against some seasoned pros in the york side

Think Kennedy may have played also .

If we put out our best side and get hammered it will have a big impact on confidence for the semi. If we play some of the youngsters for some of the game we have an excuse if we get hammered and a rest for some of the first team

Peterboro are away at Wolves on Saturday. I expect them to lose that one, so if we beat Orient on the same day the gap will be down to six points and the season certainly won't be over in my book.

You're straying dangerously close to stating that we're too massive for this division because we've got more fans. Give Peterborough credit for achieving what they have despite very low crowds.

Always said we need to take stock at 4.50pm on the 5th
