Or do we think there are better options available for a lower fee?

Why spend nearly 10mil when you can find someone just as good for less
Well, Selles knows exactly how good he is, he's in the best place to judge. So if we do go in for him and lose out I'll be disappointed, if we shop elsewhere it'll be because RD wants something different

Let's see if we manage it.
And if we don't? We're one CB short of where we were last season, and an argument could be made that Bindon could be an improvement.

The panic that sets in every season because we haven't thrown hundreds of millions around is absolutely astounding

An exaggeration in your final paragraph.

Some fans are concerned that we've let some key players out and haven't adequately replaced them.

There's still time in the window, but we've been put off by Charlie Hughes price tag (not a great deal more than we sold Anel for) and wouldn't match an offer made by Hull to replace Kieffer Moore (you'd assume the McBurnie deal would've been easily offset by the Moore sale).

I'm not in panic mode, there's time for this to all turnaround... but a little concerned that there isn't much money available despite sales and parachutes.

Who says there isn't much money available? At what point has anyone from the club communicated that we aren't willing to spend?

They'll have given Selles a budget, some players may fall outside that or some may be a case of let's see towards the end of the window, but as far as I'm aware no one has said we haven't got much money - which is what I mean by "the panic that we haven't spent hundreds of millions"

Was edited after my response so will add more here:

What did we offer McBurnie? What did Hull offer? Was it financially motivated or was it related to playtime? I assume you can tell me this as you write saying that we couldn't match it so assume you know the specifics of the deal?

Anel went for 7mil - the literal tweet from Sky says Hull want 10. There will then be add ons and sell ons, which we may not agree to. It's all well and good saying "oh its only slightly more than what we got for Anel, we should afford that" without adding any of the extra context in

Think £10m is too much for us. Difference between us and Coventry is their squad is basically finished. We still need at least 4 new players.

And obvs we’ve got parachute payments and they haven’t!

There’s a lot of clubs sensing that the top two aren’t the same level as last year and with Leicester getting a deduction there’s an opportunity.

Yeah would love a bit of ambition. Just the unfortunate reality would be it we spent big on a CB, we'd then cheap out in the other vital positions we need to strengthen. Don't think we have the luxury of £10m on one player this window.

They got some arsenal money recently

If we shop elsewhere it'll probably be because we aren't willing to pay the sort of wages that would go with that sort of fee

That's not based on anything though is it? We paid Brewster, Moore and Souza good money (which we've now saved on) and im sure Cannon got a wage that reflects a £10m price tag.

Just out of curiosity who's asked for hundreds of millions to be thrown around ?
I'd just be happy with one permanent signing that we paid a fee for, not too much to ask having just banked 20 million, especially as we now only have 2 centre backs in Robinson and RND.

Unfortunately I don't think we have sensed that.

£10m is a lot but he seems the real deal. Not going to join the bed wetting thread yet but I'm feeling a few dribbles down my leg
It's seeing JLT running out of the tunnel at 17:25pm on Saturday isn't it .. not my kind of dribble each to their own

Soumare is a loan with an obligation to buy, Polendakov is a perm, Ukaki is a perm and has played well in preseason - just because they're not flashy and expensive perms doesn't mean we aren't adding to the squad. But, because it isn't a name people know and it hasn't cost loads we don't have ambition ect
