Yeah im not sure I'd want him
Thought he looked class for us last season and improved anel and Robinson playing alongside them so woukd surely do tte same for bindon
However Im not sure his body is up for playung in an intense pressing side and the fanbase seems pretty merciless at the minute with players getting injured ,look at the way seriki is being written off after a missing a few games in his first senior season

Pros:
He looked very assured, that confidence seemed to transmit to whoever was playing next to him.
Read the game well and passing through the lines was excellent.
Seemed a really good character.

Cons:
Fitness.
Barely played for us and you have to wonder if that was all purely down to Wilder favouritism to Robinson.
(were there fitness concerns in training?)

His salary will be quite high and I would like to see us put the budget towards a long-term player (Charlie Hughes / Ash Phillips), as next season we will have no CBs in contract and potentially significantly reduced income.

---

On a side note, he seems to love America. I think he holidays there a lot, loves country music etc.
I wouldn't be shocked if that draws him across the pond.

It might be a more sensible move for him. I'm not convinced he'll be up to a 45-50 game season in the EFL.

Centre backs not really needed to press, but there are certainly valid reasons why he's not the perfect signing.

But, as I started this thread (and bumped it again in January) I'm contractually obliged to remain keen on him.

Being greedy, but not wildly unrealistic, I'd like us to sign all the CBs you have mentioned here - Holding, Hughes and Phillips on permanent deals.
Does sound like USA makes sense for him physically and emotionally.

No you're not mate.
People are allowed to change their minds you know 😀

I was partly joking. As in January, it's still hard to find quality CBs that are realistic to us.
The candidates for "commanding CB & leader of the defence" are few & far between.
I doubt young Tyler is ready.
This is the biggest hole in our squad and it really bothers me that we get it filled before the season starts.
As proved by Souttar last year , it's such an influential position & role.

A bit of me keeps worrying that Selles hasn't spotted this hole , but maybe I'm just being a fanny , as Frank would say.

C'mon Reuben , stop dreaming that Robbo can do it.

We were crying out for a commanding brick shit house stopper at the back for years. We got one finally with Souttar. It made us so much better at the back defensively. Of course fate intervened and he was injured and then we pratted about again not really replacing him, even when we got Holding, Wilder hardly played him. Of course, we started shipping daft goals again. I liked CW but feck me he didn't half have some ridiculous blind spots in our team selection was so stubborn at times. Some really daft decisions made.

I’m a fan of his. A clear level above and premier league class, similarly to (Tom) Davies. Anel, Holding, Bindon and Robbo is a very good group for the level.

We clearly don’t have the funds for a young up and coming centreback Like Hughes or Philips. We aren’t looking to pay any fees

I thought he looked assured in his limited action for us and has another good few years left in him. I’d be quite happy with him on a free.

I'd take Holding, gladly. Him and Bindon would appear to make a really good partnership at this level (assuming Anel leaves at some point).

If he came he’d be once again back up.. he can’t play more than one full game out of three.

We need another Souttar type.. unfortunately there isn’t one available in our price range.

If Anel goes before the window shuts we are going to go with Binden and Robinson

Another poster who thinks they’re ITK on what our price range is. Having a bit of patience and seeing what happens by the close of the window is generally preferable to trying to sleep in a piss soaked bed.

Someone as good as Souttar would be 20-30 million. FACT. that is out of our price range

We got an absolute bargain on the Souttar loan due to Leicester being a basket case. However he is out until Xmas and no one else would be as stupid as Leicester.

Phillips gone to Stoke

I guess he won't leave Palace unless we match his high wages , so he'd have to be on a free , for us to have a decent chance of financing him.
His wages would have to match Palace for the coming season and then drop to summat realistic for a championship club thereafter.
His alternative is to sit it out at Palace for one more year of high wages and then take whatever might be on offer to a 30yr old who has hardly played in 3 years.
It's not impossible that we get him , unless he just fancies the USA.

Or Palace could subsidise his wages for the last year of his contract to get shut as it seems Man City are having to do with Grealish.

That's not what he said.

Quote was in a few places, but here's the one from the Star: https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/foo...d-amid-ruben-selles-good-news-hope-5220516#:~

"We are able to, if that's what we need,” said Selles, on paying transfer fees. “For the moment right now we are more focused on the market of loans and free agents, and we are monitoring ones where we'd need to pay transfer fees. We can do that but our target right now is loans and the free agent market."

He never said we were not looking to pay any fees. Just that they would not be the type of deal we would look at immediately.

Time will tell and imo actions speak louder than words.

We’ve literally only been after loan players and ‘maybe’ frees atm. There might be a couple of signings we pay money for but anyone expecting significant outlays is (imo) going to be disappointed.

It’s telling to me to say ‘if that’s what we need’ - clearly you would NEED to pay for decent acquisitions unless you are settling for loans and frees. You are limiting yourself to them by design.

I May be wrong, and it could be a bluff but it’s not that way this summer is looking to me. We will see in a few weeks - we aren’t suddenly going to turn into Birmingham
