i was going to say have we just got very undeserved piece of luck because in fairness we deserve to be relegated, as i think our squad talent are probally mid table 3rd tier side

Went to see the Women’s team v Newcastle at Lane. The football was awful but in a way it made for quite an entertaining game.

Without wishing to sound misogynistic, (although no doubt I will) the ladies game isn't helped by the participants who think the wages, investment, TV money etc etc should be on a par with the mens game.

That’s how I see it too…..like watching kids football…..so it’s quite enjoyable to watch….but probably for the wrong reasons.
Also as there’s not so much money involved it’s also played in a good spirit, no dissent and bad fouls….it’s more family orientated.
I can definitely understand why people like it and might even prefer it to the men’s game, as it’s very different….so it’s unfair to compare too much.

Wonder what the plans are for the women’s team next year regards the new owners
and if the Blackburn women’s team folds (as recently reported might happen) then do we stay in the 2nd tier.

The little I have seen of elite women's football isn't great. That said in 10 or so years time when girls who have been playing for years and years you'd think the quality will rise or at least have more depth. Even non league sides are getting women's teams now so the pool of players is going to be so much bigger in years to come.

Add to that the fact that until relatively recently there was little onus on any of the sides other than the top 2 or 3 to run a women's academy structure. That will take time to filter through.

That said, I went to watch Chelsea v Barcelona and, objectively, techically it was at best on a par with my local NLS side Hampton & Richmond. However, it was an entertaining game on its own merits with some super goals (and some very questionable defending!).

Yes I have watched plenty of non league and it's entertaining in its own way ( and not necessarily in a mocking way just different)

The goals being too big for women's keepers is what puts it off mostly for me tbh. They just look daft whenever anything of heading towards the top of the goal.

I think that’s fair comment.

I have 2 young daughters and I take them to the ladies games quite often. I’m all for women’s football generally.

And should the women’s game ever generate the same crowds and revenue etc then the Karen Carney’s of this world may have a point.

But it’s just never going to happen, purely because historically it’s been a men’s game and they have a 150 year head start on the women.

I know the FA banning women’s football didn’t help (scandalous), but we can’t change the past and the way things evolved.

So yes, I implore you to watch the women’s team and help them grow. People say the standard isn’t great, but at the end of the day it’s meant to be entertainment, and I usually see more entertainment than I would watching Pep-ball with 600 sideways and backwards passes.

There are hidden perks too, the groundhopper in me has visited grounds that are almost impossible to get to in the men’s game.

And Birmingham City away this season was trialling alcohol being allowed at your seat. I took full advantage of it, probably too much 😬

And those 2 teams have spent millions on their squads and are awful to watch, sorry ladies but it's true. Everyone i know has given it a go but say they wont go again, if they played in my back garden I'd draw curtains. We will never ever be in a position to compete, just look at who's top of every womens league in Europe....yes thats right all the teams that's top of the men's leagues Once again it's the one's with the most money. Football is fucked as a fair competition. Chelsea this, Arsenal that, Man City tuther and scousers can do one anall. Rant over.

I think there's a lot bigger chance of Sheffield United women competing to win the top league than the men. Vastly more likely.

And in terms of the games, comparing them to the men is completely wrong. It should be treated like tennis. Women cannot compete with men at tennis but women's tennis is often more entertaining than the men. Although this is diminishing as the women go more for power.

Bottom line is that I want to watch entertaining football. Whether that's EPL, us, WPL, non-league or anything else. That's what football has forgotten in the men's game. Entertaining doesn't mean skilful. It means exciting.

Rebuild or abort league status then..m

First signing of the summer and it's an excellent one. Probably top of the list of free agents that I was hoping we might be able to sign, to the extent where I didn't seriously think we'd be in the market for her:

Also great to see a multi-year deal offered which the club have emphatically not done in the past, hence the massive squad turnover the last two years. Bodes very well for the rest of the summer.

Bit like with the whole of the club in general ,we are all studiously examining coh's first moves to see where we are but im really hopeful for the ladies team next season

I'm not fooled. That's Annabelle Croft.

Taking the women’s team seriously will encourage me that they’re here for the club’s good rather than simply rich people playing with a new toy.

Free agent now isn't she.
yep

Does anyone know if we offered Maria Farrugia a new contract? Seems odd if not.

Know nothing about the Bladies. Hope COH make a go of it cause they were bad last season looking at table

Saw them last season two or three times and they were painfully poor - an obvious lack of due care and attention from the club after a very difficult year previously for the reasons we're all familiar with.
Hopefully they've got a far better handle on things now. Looking at the retained list they've got a lot of work to do.

The implication being you enjoy watching kids play football to laugh at how they rubbish they are.

These threads are great. Amazing how many people who are all for women's football simply have to comment on how bad/embarrassing the standard is. Same people who will pretend that non league football is so wholesome compared to the greed of the Premier League.
