You’d think now he’s 22, he’d want a permanent move away from Villa.

He’s not exactly close to the Villa first team having played the majority of his short career in League One/Two

Maybe? What I will say though is used the right way JRS could have been a world beater at this level. He's soooooo much to learn, but ability wose he could have ripped this diving a new one.
If Barry is 'only as good' I think under a new system he could be just what we need.

I think we're in the minority, but I agree with you. I think JRS could have been brilliant, don't buy the stuff about his attitude or not being hard working either.
I think Hecky would've got more of a tune out of him.

Sounds like an ideal player for Selles' system going by that description.

I liked JRS.

His goal contributions were up there for us with the more productive members of the squad.

He often played ahead of Gilchrist who got a nose bleed beyond half way which meant he was constantly doubled up on.

He got that injury after a real hot streak around Christmas and didn’t seem to fully shake it and get fit again.

He was a little inconsistent as you’d expect for a young and inexperienced player but overall he contributed. It also didn’t really help that the whole squad was inbalnced by playing Hamer on the left who didn’t want to stay wide. Our main width had to come down the right with was a lot of pressure.

I like this pre season, we’ve not idea who we’re signing & we’ve no idea how we’re going to play. Could win the league could go down with Selles ball.

Just out of curiosity how long you giving him ? I’m guessing he doesn’t get more than 10 games an he gets nine ten Jack if he sees boxing days game al pull Xmas crackers out my arse lol I mean I want him to do well and I hope he does well but I recon it’s Slav all over again where we don’t have the system or players to play the way he wants not only that Slav didn’t get the backing from the board will selles ? it’s not looking good

I’m not sure, it’s all dependent on the summer transfer activity. There’s some big hitters next season. Ipswich, Leicester, Birmingham, Southampton will all have big budgets, then there’s your Coventry’s etc that are there year in year out.

The pessimist in me thinks he could be gone by Christmas. The managers that are successful here tend to be your Warnock, Bassett, Wilder style of manage

The optimist in me thinks that has to come to an end at some point and we have to evolve & hopefully that’s now.
 

From a friend who lived in Sheffield in the late 1980s (University). Used to be a Coventry/Nuneaton Borough fan but became a Stockport fan when he started living there about 20 years ago and got married, he is a season ticket holder and goes to away matches.

Hiya, Barry was the reason we did not get promoted. He was the league 1 top scorer when he was recalled to villa on new years day. He's good enough for the championship. Cannot see villa selling him unless United want to spend 10 million. Would be an excellent loan. My only concern is that he has been unlucky with bad injuries. Barry has pace and can run with ball. He will offer something different. Hope you get him and blades may have a new hero.
Should add he has got great technical skills. He rarely lets the ball run away from him. Exciting to watch.

I think the league this year is a lot tougher than last year teams around us have made good signings we seem to not have learnt our lesson in been quick and off the mark with potential signings we’ve lost out on a good few already think our new man in charge could possibly end up doing this transfer window with his hands tied and it’s get what your given hope I’m wrong the squad needs at least 2 good centre half’s and that’s without mentioning other obvious positions

The lad that went to QPR, Poku also Dunne who re-signed there, both would have improved us in two positions that we need, David brooks, Doyle’s just signed for brum, the lad who we wanted from Germany Jon Joe Kenny is it he decided to go where else, then I’ve seen 2/3 other players who haven’t been linked but again we should have been in for Joe rothwell been one, Brownhill from Burnley would be a reyt signing I’m gonna take a guess that he will end up where else as well like a said hope it works out for selles but I feel he’s just gonna have random players chucked at him and told to play them he will end up been the scapegoat and we haven’t even lost anyone YET wait till they get sold from under him

I get what your saying but there’s no denying that they all would or would have improved us in positions that we need hopefully the yanks they prove me wrong and get their hand in their pocket and bring some decent lads in

Ah, I see. Players that you thought we should go for rather than players the club were actually in for.

Just because we were “linked” doesn’t mean we were interested. Agents put all sorts of shit out at this time of year and journalists need stuff to write about.

In other words, nothing to see here.

They might have, but they’re not the only players in the world who can improve us. Maybe we are looking at even better options?
