I may (or may not) be at Bramall Lane for the first time in 16 years for the Brentford game.

As I'm not actually from Sheffield and like a drink, I've been trying to find out the score with what pubs near the ground are frequented by home fans on matchdays but anything I can find on Google relates to away fans.

The last time I was down we drank in the city centre before the game and after the game had one drink up near the away end (from Google street view it may have been The Cricketers) before heading back into town for the night.

I saw the youtube video of fans watching the semi final draw in The Scholar so that appears to be one haunt but other than that I'm pretty clueless.

I like the Cremorne on London Road cos it normally has a good selection of real ales. However, as an exile I don't get to the Lane as often as I would like to.

Foxy and the crew frequent the Golden Lion on Alderson Road but to be fair the beer is nowt to get excited about in there. If you want to meet up with a few Blades on here that's probably a good bet.

Plenty of other decent boozers to choose from. The Cricks may be close to the ground but it's often packed - same with the Railway.

Sheaf Island or Copthorne before ,Cricketers then Sheaf Island after ,that's how I roll :)

I generally go to either the Nursery or Spoons on the bottom of Ecclesall Road.

Is the Golden Lion an actual hotel? I haven't sorted digs yet........

I thought you needed a pass to get through the door at the Railway ? Sup near the ground and the best you will get is John Smiths, Carling and Stella, Cricks do Kelham Island real ale but that might be all you can say about that pub, you'd be better off finding a real ale pub in Sheffield centre.

I seem to recall The Cricketers (if that is indeed the pub I was in last time) being rather 'rough and ready'.
The barman wasn't impressed with the sight of a Bank of Scotland £20 note either.
Apologies if I'm doing the place a disservice!

Despite the fact that many have closed down, I think you'll still find upwards of 100 pubs within a 20 minute walk of Bramall Lane.Take your pick.

The proper cognoscenti gather at the Rutland.goodselection of real ales pub grub and Hibees.
Was at Easter Road in December my man.
Enjoyed a few in the Mash Tun.
Andy Murray's old dear was even in.

1-1 last min equaliser? Isaiah osbornes brother ran the show for the Maryhill Magyars

Yes, that was it. A belter of a goal by Kris Doolan (now on the bench due to the Blades' very own Lyle Taylor).
Heartbreak Hotel at the end.

Thanks for all the advice.

Looks like a pub crawl might be on the cards!

If I'm there I'll be in town from lunchtime so I'll have plenty time.

There is no ale at the Lion, just stuff from a keg. Decent enough boozer, but no ale.

I like ale.

I'm an unsophisticated lager drinker.

Any pub with Blades fans therein will be good enough for me.

Why? simply why? whats the thing with you lot on here, real ale stinks, its over priced, and well it tastes shit. Get in the Penny and drink John Smiths. I go to the match with a large crowd and none of us are in to this real ale shit.
