My dad said my first game was against Blackpool and that it was 4-1 to us also it was before he took me to see the Spain v Switzerland 1966 World Cup match at S6. I think my dad got the 4-1 scoreline wrong (maybe it was a reserves match?) cos we lost 1-0 at home to Blackpool in April 1966 . He did take me to a few more matches in the late 1960s and I remember a vague memory of being in the BLUT (probably not in my first match) and we had scored at the Lane End, a balding Blade (probably Bill Punton) ran over to congratulate our scorer who was behind the Lane goal acknowledging the cheers by the fans. I remember going to watch our home wins against Norwich and Cardiff in Sept 1969 but at the time I didnt know any of our players names. My first match as a committed Blade (learning the names of our players etc) was the 2-0 win against Preston on 17th January 1970 after being impressed with our 2-1 FA Cup win against Everton on YTV two weeks earlierThat's the point I can't remember![]()
I remember going to the match cos the final of the SUSC u12s 5 a side tournament (Eckington v Anston) was due to be played on the pitch before the main match (I was playing in goal for the Dronfield team that lost to Anston in the semis 11 months earlier!). We had missed the 5 a side final cos my dad always drives off home less than 30 minutes before the kick off time! Dearden scored twice for us after an own goal by Ray Evans gave us the lead but I am afraid I do not remember the goalsI got dragged, literally to a lot of reserve games around 72-3, but I couldn't tell you which was the first.
this is the first actual league game I went to. United 3-2 Spurs

Yes, Tudor scored in the 1st half, QPR's Ron Hunt equalised with a header. QPR's keeper Phil Parkes made several fine saves. We thought Colin Addison had scored the winner for us but the ref, John Yates, blew the final whistle just before the ball crossed the line. after the game the police escorted the ref out of the ground as there were angry Blades fans outside the players & officials entrance in the old JSSblades v qpr november 1970. I think Tudor scored if I remember aright, 1 all draw.

My first game was to a charity match UTD XI vs All Stars a team of celebrities of the day. I was 5/6ish so circa 1958/59. All I,can remember is Tommy Steel played, Mike and Bernie Winters (one in net) maybe Jo Brown and Lonny Donigan.
Anyhoo when that book of all games and players came out a few years ago I thought it would be in there, and it was not. Tried searching online and asking if anyone on BladesMad remembered it all to no avail. Contacted the club and they said there were a few queries and they would ask the authors to get in touch but they did not.
Anyone re bet that game?
Thanks Sharrowblade, that is about the right time and maybe I was wrong about the venue, always thought it was BDTBL but I was only 5/6. I did live close to Owlerton in Upperthorpe and I was on a sunken terrace and kept getting a clip of my Dad cause I was playing with the red cinder track/gravel trough the fence and not watching the match!Jimmy Henney founded the Showbiz Team in 1957. They used to have kick a bouts in Hyde Park, Pete Murray, DJ, used to play and they filmed one of the games for the 'Six Five Special' TV Programme. Offers came flooding in after that to play Charity matches all over the country.
Can't find any record of a United v Showbiz XI game at the Lane, but they did play at Owlerton in 1960 against Sheffield ex football stars.
The Sheffield team included Jack Smith, Ernest Jackson, Harry latham, Alf Ringstead, and Jimmy Hagan.
The Showbiz XI included Chas McDevitt, Ronnie Carroll, Des O'Connor, Sean Connery and Tommy Steele.
Derek Dooley was one of the Linesmen.
Interesting note in the programme for this game, thanking the supporters who follow the Showbiz XI all over the country.
'They save us seats on the trains, look after our valuables, lend us money, praise us but never criticize. We want them to know we appreciate it!
It did add that those regular supporters, were mostly female![]()

Very good! but what year was it? I think it was 1972? Surprised to learn that proceeds from the match went to my school!

Match No 1 60 years ago today. The first floodlit match at the Lane since the 19th centrury.
Match No 2: 32 years ago today: A 7-3 thumping of Northampton. It was cold that night at the back of the South Stand.
Match No 3: 21 years ago today: Cup glory as United go through to the Semi Finals beating Blackburn 5-3 on penalties, after Mitch Ward got both goals in a 2-2 draw.
Match No 4: 12 years ago: The 'Battle of Bramall Lane'. United end up with just six players and Megson reaches for the tissues.
I remember the 7-3 Northampton match as I was stood on the right hand side of the Kop (looking towards the pitch) didn't Sir Keith notch 4 ? Thought I remember it being quite sunny at around kick off time.

43 years ago March 20th 1971;

Four of our players who played in that semi final match didnt play in the final and goalscorer Don Bird was one of themOk .........since Semi Final fever has taken hold, this day 78 years ago 1936
Fulham v United at Molyneux
The Blades win 2-1 to reach wemberlee. Bird and Pickering the scorers.
The programme cover depicts Molyneux and is striking for the South Bank which could hold over 30,000 alone.
