Sad day really.

Eclipsed by the first time he left. That really was a shock. This one slightly less so with all the media.

Probably the Manager that has created the most memories this century. The highest highs at the very least, before pandemic we were genuinely in the conversation for gate crashing the top four.

Only at United could a global pandemic and a VAR decision that would not take place in any of the prior 48 matches rob us of even greater things.

It won’t be the same with Chris not around. But everything ends sometime.

As they say, don’t be sad that it’s over. Be happy that it happened.

Thanks Chris, Alan and Matt.

What was our vision? Because of those 4 teams I'd say they all have/had a much stronger style than us. Our football was faceless this season. I agree he'd likely have put us in contention for the autos if he stayed with decent backing.
To play solid, defensive football with a quality up top and a hard working midfield. Also, a vision extends beyond tactics.

Thanks Chris the first spell was tremendous up until the Covid break, unfortunately the game moved on and you couldn't adapt to it and became defensive and cowardly. The time is right for us to go our separate ways if the club want to move to a higher level. Good luck we had some memorable times but not so many this time around.

Obviously, his first spell was one of the best, if not the best, I've experienced at the club.

The thrill of winning league 1 and then going up to, and finishing top half, of the Premier League, is something I'll never forget. Especially with the style of football we were playing. We were up against it and we showed no fear. Obviously, it ended on a sour note but I'll be forever grateful for those memories.

The second spell was different, but even in that the job he did taking a team kicked about in the top flight to challenging for automatic promotion was remarkable. The football was often not good though and antics off the pitch marred the achievement. We all know what happened in the end.

It's a tough call for the owners. I think the best chance of us going up next season is under Wilder but they want to modernise the way the club operates and that conflicts with how he wants to manage. You could make a case for doing it next year, assuming we go up, but I think that's likely impossible to implement and stay up in one season.
Good post.

My thoughts too.

The fines were mainly for our players getting involved in scuffles. I don't think it's a big deal and not all Wilder's fault. Are we going to go in on Peck for getting involved or did we actually all quite enjoy that? I dont think we bottled many big games. I think saying bottled is a very lazy thing to chuck out about whoever loses. We played well in a lot of the big games and lost by fine margins against good teams. Style of play I think was fine. Had us easily the 3rd best team in the league with a squad that shouldn't have been up there before Christmas.
I'll respectfully say that I think you and me watched last season through very different eyes.

A Blades legend and leaves us in a good place.

ATB to him and now onto a new era. I hope it brings us some times as good as the last one!

He'll take some beating. He'll take some MATCHING. These have been some of my best ever years as a Blade. I cant thank the man enough, club legend doesn't do it justice.
Nothing good lasts forever.
Onto the next chapter.
Cheers Chris, and thanks for bringing my club back.

Well I have to say I’m a bit gutted. I didn’t want him back but he did a great job. I honestly feel we would have won the league next season going on the state of the clubs coming down and the other top clubs in the Championship next season.

I’ve no idea about this Selles fella. Hope he turns out brilliant and this decision by the new owners pays off.

Sorry to see you go Chris and good luck Ruben.
I was about to write something similar. I'm used to repeatedly seeing managerial changes but how many times does it actually lead to lasting improvement?
I hadn't even heard of Selles until my Tottenham supporting friend spoke of
him. Hope it all works out well for CW and Selles

Importantly, spare a thought for Chris tonight too, it's worth saying. He'll be dejected tonight, no doubt. His entire careers work was towards this gig, the gig. He's put his all into his club, our club over two spells. You only get one go round on this planet, and one work lifetime and he's given his best years to us and provided success and memories that we'll cherish for a lifetime. He'll be hurting.

I don't want to see any sniping either. You can be:

Sad to see him go
Looking forward to a change
Feeling that the football wasn't good enough last season
Grateful for what we achieved
Disappointed to have missed out on promotion
And all of the above.

The best manager of my lifetime, thank you. ❤️⚔️

A sad ending to a manager who gave me Duffy bouncing day and the double over them lot last season. For that he deserves praise as did the innovative overlapping centre backs.

His tactical deficiencies caught up with him in the end and the season was lost the moment Farke dropped Meslier on 5 April 2025. On the same day we were stinking the place out at Oxford. Weeds went onto win their last 7 games.

At half time at Wembley we had one foot in the EPL. De Bris kicked that away with his innovative changes and a golden opportunity was lost.

For me the right decision if we are to progress as a club and move into a DOF/Head Coach structure that improves fitness conditioning and medical services.

I'll miss CW's enthusiasm and love for the Club. Third best manager in my lifetime after Harris and Basset. I'll not miss the cult of Chris who are out in force at the moment.

Gutted, love the man to bits represents me as a blade, sometimes found out tactically but that's competitive football for ya no one rolls over. Apart from 3 weak performances at the end of a gruelling season where we stayed amongst 2 very strong teams after a minus 2 deduction and getting to the play off final and losing after 2 unbelievable saves from Patterson and the var debacle we must class this season as a positive and I thought Chris had done more than enough for another crack this season. Only time will tell, all the best to Chris and Alan and their team. As always utb

Somewhat gutted but fully expected this even before the rumours started, as it is time to move on. I appreciate the great memories and he is up there with the very best managers to manage the Blades in my lifetime. I never wanted him to go the first time around which is why I along with some other fans are a bit bitter about that, I am sure there were good reasons he went at the time. As I do think back then he would have got us back up instantly to the Premier League.

As others have said the game has moved on a bit since we stormed into the Premier League top 10 and despite a tour of some other Championship clubs he hasn't quite adapted his approach. It showed this season in crucial matches and he didn't seem to understand why we struggled in some of those games.

All the best Chris and good luck for the future. UTB ⚔️
