To play solid, defensive football with a quality up top and a hard working midfield. Also, a vision extends beyond tactics. What was our vision? Because of those 4 teams I'd say they all have/had a much stronger style than us. Our football was faceless this season. I agree he'd likely have put us in contention for the autos if he stayed with decent backing.
Take that, been called worse
A step to far in name calling, anyhoo, back to foozballTake That certainly have been called worse.
You're describing Burnley this season as much as us.To play solid, defensive football with a quality up top and a hard working midfield. Also, a vision extends beyond tactics.
Good post.Obviously, his first spell was one of the best, if not the best, I've experienced at the club.
The thrill of winning league 1 and then going up to, and finishing top half, of the Premier League, is something I'll never forget. Especially with the style of football we were playing. We were up against it and we showed no fear. Obviously, it ended on a sour note but I'll be forever grateful for those memories.
The second spell was different, but even in that the job he did taking a team kicked about in the top flight to challenging for automatic promotion was remarkable. The football was often not good though and antics off the pitch marred the achievement. We all know what happened in the end.
It's a tough call for the owners. I think the best chance of us going up next season is under Wilder but they want to modernise the way the club operates and that conflicts with how he wants to manage. You could make a case for doing it next year, assuming we go up, but I think that's likely impossible to implement and stay up in one season.
I'll respectfully say that I think you and me watched last season through very different eyes. The fines were mainly for our players getting involved in scuffles. I don't think it's a big deal and not all Wilder's fault. Are we going to go in on Peck for getting involved or did we actually all quite enjoy that? I dont think we bottled many big games. I think saying bottled is a very lazy thing to chuck out about whoever loses. We played well in a lot of the big games and lost by fine margins against good teams. Style of play I think was fine. Had us easily the 3rd best team in the league with a squad that shouldn't have been up there before Christmas.
Would've made more sense. Deserved another crack at it this season. Grass isn't always greener.I'm not entirely convinced that Wilder wouldn't have been sacked even if we'd gone up.

I was about to write something similar. I'm used to repeatedly seeing managerial changes but how many times does it actually lead to lasting improvement?Well I have to say I’m a bit gutted. I didn’t want him back but he did a great job. I honestly feel we would have won the league next season going on the state of the clubs coming down and the other top clubs in the Championship next season.
I’ve no idea about this Selles fella. Hope he turns out brilliant and this decision by the new owners pays off.
Sorry to see you go Chris and good luck Ruben.
Absolutely. I'll get behind the new manager. Only time will tell. Could be a masterstroke. It isn't always greener but sometimes it is.
DittoI can honestly say thanks he gave me some of the best times in 64 years of following Sheffield United but it was time
Fair enoughI absolutely would.
But under Wilder, we didn't finish that low very often.
