Will Osula

Osula is one I've kept an eye on as I now live in the North east and they don't stop banging on about newcastle!

He seems to be improving and fair play to the lad but i thought he'd get goals against championship teams this year.

I still maintain that to be true as i believe he's only scored against Ipswich and Birmingham who are basically a very very good championship side and probably mid table championship side this year in all but name.

I think Isaks form has taken the pressure off him too- I worry we'd be relying on him too much if he'd stayed

I was really excited for him at the start of the season. I think if they’d have let him come back on loan for the year on loan he would have really kicked on. Big shame.

He had all the right attributes, just a little bit of filling out to do.

Still looked raw and a bit gangly whilst he was with us, but he was rapid, 6'3 and could strike it well with both feet.

I expect he'll have a great career, and so too might Jebbison if he sorts his attitude out. Shame we couldn't develop them for a bit longer at United.

I'm not one for going after ex-players just because they're ex-players but I'd genuinely be looking at a loan deal for next season if he's available.

Osula thrives when played as part of a 433 or as part of a front two. He wouldn't have thrived last season either being played up top on his own or shoved out of position on the wing. Selling Osula was good for us and good for him.

Would he develop and become better learning from Kieffer Moore and Tyrese Campbell, or from Alexander Isak, a player he resembles in physical attributes and playing style?

Arguably he has kicked on. Just not for us.
Yeah not saying he hasn’t. I just mean I think it could have been a transition that we got to witness of a big gangly kid coming on for a few minutes into him growing in to man’s football and being a key player smashing goals in. I would have liked to see that transition play out.

I think he would have played on the left and would have actually changed our style for the better rather than Hamer being there. I’m purely basing this on the Chezzy friendly. We absolutely could not turn that fee down though.

I’m not saying he won’t have developed from being in an elite environment, that’s just silly, just that a full season actually playing first team games and being a main man was something I would have enjoyed seeing.

That's kind of my point though. He'd have been played on the left wing when he's a striker who plays better wide as part of a front three or up top as part of a front two. He would have been wasted here and not progressed being played out of position as a winger.

In fairness he’s scoring against U21 players. That’s something he was good at 3 years ago.

He now has to transfer that to men’s football and not just in lower league cup games.
Agree, but the difference is that the opponents are the best in their country, not Chesterfields u-21. Netherlands were one of the tournament favourites.

To be fair he made Taylor Harwood-Bellis who’s just done a full season in the prem look a rank amateur when he played him a few seasons back.

The highs have always been there for Osula and they are very high when he hits them. If he starts to produce them consistently whatever we got for him will look like a bargain.

But I think it would have looked different and turned into more of a two if the ball was out on the right. He’d have made it more fluid. Fair point though.

I think Osula has come on for better coaching, most talked about him going to a league one club to get experience, now he's in the Premier League and being talked about as a world beater(almost) I'll say again, what does Lester actually do during training, we need better coaching

These are still young lads and that is why they need time to develop. Everyone in the club knew Osula was special and should not go on the cheap and will be a very good player. One is the next player who will be good at the top level and all the know it but he is still young. On a couple occasions he was chucked on and I feel next season he can aim to cement himself in the team.

Anyone who saw Osula saw he was an outstanding talent far better than Jebbinson/One anyway

He ripped it up for Derby, and then we didn't bother playing him or Jebbinson

Waste of two top strikers IMO

He didn't rip it up for Derby at all.
He hasn't ripped it up anywhere in senior football... yet.

Per others, a loan to the Championship is probably needed for him to properly develop. I wouldn't want him here though. He needs a club that can make him their main man and give him 10 games to learn on the job. Next season, we won't be that club.

Yes we did, when Jebbison came back Hecky gave him plenty of game time where he could, but he was so ‘hit or miss’ at a vital period of our season. The option would have been to drop McBurnie / NDiaye who had proved themselves all season.

In the Premiership Osula started or played a role in pretty much all games under Hecky

We need a system of playing that creates chances regularly over 90 minutes..

Funny how all the strikers dont seem able to score, its as if we look to play it backwards as soon as we get to thier penalty area.

Aye
interesting definition of ‘rip it up -WO netting twice in 15
Equally interesting definition of ‘top’ striker - DJ 1 in 29 since his departure.

Any ‘insight’ (sic) re Cannon?!?!? - If he nets (once) in his next 14 games he moves up beyond “top striker” - what should he be (then) described as?

NB not a ‘dig’ @ TC, merely trying to establish a baseline to manage my expectations

I saw a lot more potential in him than I've seen in any of our recent striking prospects, but don't particularly see a decent goalscoring record for the Denmark U21s as any proof we let him go too soon - or too cheaply.

I can remember last summer when Osula played in pre-season and some fans on here were claiming that he'd go on to score 10 or more goals in the Premier League. So overhype around Osula has always existed.

He has the potential to become an established Premier League player as he is tall, strong and fast. If Newcastle can work on his finishing then he could potentially be very good at that level.
