It's fairly obvious our US owners were heavily involved in the Tom Cannon signing. There is no way they would sanction a £10 million spend without Ai being involved.

Just shows they might no know what they are doing and they might make a huge mistake sacking Wilder, Knill and Lester :-(

The data driven approach was probably applied to the Cannon signing, but I'd be surprised if it was completely A.I like these 3 development signings.

That being said, the situation we were in at the time he signed made it necessary that we sign a striker.

Campbell was still injured (he returned around the same time Cannon signed), Moore was due to have surgery, Brewster and Oné were our only fit strikers at the time, and Wilder had admitted to wanting to sign him in the summer.

So new owners come in, go to CW and say "Chris, we need a striker and can get Cannon permanently, do you want him?"

He's not going to say no is he, especially given how Cannon had been performing at Stoke.

On the flip side Stoke fans said Cannon was effective played as part of a front two. What did Wilder do with him? Cannon may still come good if used correctly.

Wilder changes players to suit his formation instead of changing his formation to suit the players, which to me is crap management and one of my biggest annoyances in football.

Why play a system that favours wingers when you don't have any wingers and only bring one in on loan?

I've said it before, but I'd be very shocked if any kind of AI or advanced data analysis went into the decision to sign Tom Cannon. It was clear that despite playing in a team generating a high number of chances (more chances per 90 than us) his non-penalty threat was very low. I've ran analyses for Championship CFs in 50 different ways this season and not once had Tom Cannon been flagged as a player worth going for.

For me, it screams of Wilder wanting his man, based on whatever Wilder has seen in him.

Funny, Wilder claimed he was behind the Cannon signing?

Maybe he doesn't know what he's doing?

That was unfortunate though although I'd heard we didn't do a medical so perhaps you're right.
tbf, I was only going on the value for money angle rather than any poor scouting, medicals etc. Was very unlucky, but for the money we had available and the size of the fee for a club of our size at the time, it was heartbreaking.

Maybe investing millions in a good centre half would serve us better in the long run?

Pound for pound thus far him and Brewster are the worse signings for value for money in our history?
I’d probably throw Horsfield in too. 3 appearances on loan, then we had to fulfil our obligation to buy him at the end of 05/06 for £1.2m (a lot for us back then).

We loaned him out straight away to Leeds and he never played for us again (in the league, played 2 LC games under Robson), even less minutes for his fee than Ebbrell.

Tom Cannon. It was clear that despite playing in a team generating a high number of chances (more chances per 90 than us)

Everybody created more chances than us.

And we wonder why the strikers are shite?

We pass it back to cooper from the opposition half..

Shocking football

Not sure being “unlucky” comes into the equation. We chose to sign an injured player who had managed 57 appearances in (just shy of) 3 seasons previous & whom was ‘uninsurable’ because of his injury history / record.
Starts to make Tom Davies look like a decent ‘punt’.

Sod AI, get staff to watch potential signings.
Simples
It's getting out of hand how many people believe it's one or the other.

AI can be used to identify potential signings, based on data, then staff take a look at them.

It's definitely staff doing the bidding, negotiating, communicating etc

This isn't much different to what other clubs who have data-led scouting have done for years.

Respectfully, the idea that people have put their feet up and a computer is doing everything is what's simple.

Best 45 minutes I've seen from anyone on their debut!

That little run on the byline...

All I have is a memory of him turning one way and then the other and then hitting the post.

I just remember being so excited every time he got the ball.

Problem is Wilder constantly plays players out off position, and in doing that you very rarely get the best out of players IE square pegs round hole

Best Championship Manager

The standout current Championship manager (i.e., one still managing in the league) right now has to be Danny Röhl at Sheffield Wednesday. Here’s why he’s leading the pack:

  • Recognition for impact: He was nominated for Manager of the Month in his first season and peaked again in December 2024 with 11 points from seven games—boosting the club to mid-table comfort .
  • Long-term vision: At just 36, he signed a long-term deal extending to 2027, showing the club's faith in his progressive approach .

Until everyone has finished their summer recruitment and we see what squads are like with or without injuries, it's too early to be making these kinds of predictions.

Cannon needs a partner up front otherwise , yep wasted talent. As we alllllllll saw he is wank on his own up front. But Burnley saw his prowess as a two.

So ai isnt picking the team, the transfers, the manager, the board, the halftime pies, the pre-season friendlies, who plays captain blade and the halftime music?!?

I'm outraged, I was going to let Gemini pick what i was going to have on my pizza shortly, given all the negativity about ai im not really sure i can trust it to make a big decision like that for me now.
