So a certain amount to spend = promotion, try telling that to psg for the past 10 years ....he has to knit the team together which looking at the points return is say he did exceptionally well, and imo over achieved, there's no way I'd have said we would have got 92 points on the back of a full rebuildHow can the budget be irrelevant and him building a team is his job. He didn't do it out of charity that's the expectation, surely?
The point i raised was the expectation with that budget was not top 10, otherwise he wouldn't be in a job with that budget.
He failed if we expected promotion and was successful with top 3. His target with that budget is absolutely relevant.
Yes he didI give up. You win.
The irony is those types of journo will always imply the ownership groups are living in a bubble. Meanwhile they are completely living in their own Wilder decorated one.Why are Alan Biggs and Danny Hall so besotted in constantly fighting Wilders corner for him and almost pleading, begging the new owners not to sack him . Also, both have got their facts and numbers wrong about Blades fans wanting wilder to stay.
Surely, a journalist should have the interest of the football club at heart, not an individual.
If replacing wilder is to the benefit of Sheffield United and it's future success, that is what should be appreciated.
Not necessarily, they could sack Wilder then wait and see who applies. Why rush it?I think board are split and those in favour of keeping Wilder have told those who want him replaced that they need to come up with a credible replacement before sacking Wilder. That is why there has been no announcement
Taking a punt on a new manager may bring future success, but the odds are it won't. I don't see Biggs or Hall 'begging the new owners not to sack him' unless I've missed something. None of us know how many of us fans want Wilder gone but I'd guess it's a small minority. Why are Alan Biggs and Danny Hall so besotted in constantly fighting Wilders corner for him and almost pleading, begging the new owners not to sack him . I'd have thought the journos would want a change, more easy column inches to fill. Why are Alan Biggs and Danny Hall so besotted in constantly fighting Wilders corner for him and almost pleading, begging the new owners not to sack him . Most people before last season thought we'd do well to get top 10 bearing in mind the shocker we had in the prem, if we had scraped into the play offs then ultimately lost would Wilder be getting this amount of stick from the fans,?? It seems he is a victim of his own success
Not sure what we're disagreeing on here, he has a budget and an expectation, we don't know what that was. The exam question is did he meet his target. So a certain amount to spend = promotion, try telling that to psg for the past 10 years ....he has to knit the team together which looking at the points return is say he did exceptionally well, and imo over achieved, there's no way I'd have said we would have got 92 points on the back of a full rebuild
I'd say the majority want him to stay but most aren't going to be furious with the board if he goes like its being made out in certain quarters. There was much more outrage when he left last time.
There are Wilder fanatics on either side and they're always going to make the most noise but if he goes most fans will just wait to see what comes next. This isn't something like Deane and Fjortoft being sold on the last day or Danny Wilson being appointed where everybody was on the same page. It's a divisive manager who some fans are overly emotional about potentially leaving.
I'd keep him and think it's a big risk sacking him. I don't think it's outrageous that a new board will want their own man after we failed to go up though. It's being pushed as if there's going to be angry protests when the majority will think "not sure about that" and wait for what happens next.
I think it’s probably timing and process which is more worrying than the decision itself.
Yep, same as me. I will always have unwavering respect and affection for CW for basically saving the club in 2016, and the unbelievable journey up to 2020 - but as we know, he’s stuck in his ways with a pub team mentality and thinks he’s untouchable here. If the owners want to go in a different direction, I’m nervous about it but understanding.I'd say the majority want him to stay but most aren't going to be furious with the board if he goes like its being made out in certain quarters. From Wilders perspective, if he can get a contract payout after just picking up 92 points.. then he's looking very employable.
Which clubs with top 6 aspirations would see him as an improvement on
A good, balanced post.I'd say the majority want him to stay but most aren't going to be furious with the board if he goes like its being made out in certain quarters. There was much more outrage when he left last time.

Wilder did an immense job in bringing the fans & club together after the worst season I remember under Adkins, the atmosphere was toxic. He then embarked on a journey and took us along, free scoring full backs, new legends, outside of Bassett the best times I remember.A good, balanced post.
CW's claim to have reconnected the club is now on very thin ice. He did when he first joined, not so in the second coming and the comments from his vociferous support recently would suggest that reconnection is far from where we are now.
You've nailed my thoughts in a nutshell there palI'm fairly easy either way around whether Wilder stays or goes.
He did at least as well as could be expected before a ball was kicked but its a case for me of what Wilder's ceiling is. Is he a Premier League level manager or is he just slowly becoming Warnock mk2? Some of his behaviour has been downright embarrassing alongside some of the baffling substitutions and tactical decisions, especially during games where we've looked disjointed yet had a decent squad of players that he sometimes doesn't really appear to know what to do with.
We stumbled when it came to the crunch - failing to take any points off Burnley or Leeds, the screw ups against Oxford, Plymouth and Millwall and the play off final where I think we knew once we'd calmed down after Campbell scored that we'd batten down the hatches and hope that we get over the line rather than force the issue and put the game to bed - something that we got away with against some of the lesser teams but came to bite us when it mattered most.
If we did that in the Premier League, there would be thrashings aplenty - any defence trying to do that with the "culture carrier" Jack Robinson at the heart of is doomed to fail.
It always felt that the team had another gear to shift into but was reluctant to do it. The question is which factor needs to change to give us that extra edge to get us up, is it a new manager, some new players or a combination of both? That's up to the owners and their fresh sets of eyes over how we're run could just be what's needed without any bias or preconceptions.
I know.... I'm very concerned about all the takeaways they must have ordered on the clubs credit card. Must be at least 4 meals by now. It’s been a long meeting….
Wouldn't the nutshell smash and the thoughts pop out? You've nailed my thoughts in a nutshell there pal
Ha ha! Mixing me metaphors there!Wouldn't the nutshell smash and the thoughts pop out?![]()

Question is, after last season and numerous doubts about playing style, robustness and behaviour is he the manager for next season?
One thing I remember fondly is in his first spell he rid us of the utd will find a way to fuck things up, I always felt we could get a result even in trying circumstances (think Brentford when down to 10) I never had that same feeling last season.
