Signings will happen this summer. We saw in the PO final that there wasn't any leaders on that pitch to take us through to full time. The mentality of the squad is actually still weak from the PL season. Robbo was club captain for us this year, with Blaster taking the armbands whilst Robbo was out with lack of form.

Who in your mind from the current crop would you make as club captain. For me, has to be Blaster. No one else comes close, apart from Cooper - his calm persona and taking responsibility when called upon would make him a good vice. However, I'm not a fan of keeper captains as they can't influence anything in the middle of the park.

Thoughts on a fag packet?

none of our players are particularly good captain material. Burrows has done it for Posh but he's not a very vocal player.

I couldn't give a shit who stands for photos with the mascots and Captain Blade before the game. As long as they call tails at the coin toss like they should do. The rest of the world treats it as a ceremonial position and so do I

I disagree, the captain should be someone who demands the respect of the rest of the team and can galvanise the side and dish out some bollockings when required. Someone who leads by example both on and off the pitch. If someone isn’t doing their job, they need to be told so, and that should be the job of the club captain. He should be the player the rest of the team rally round and the one who gives the team talk before kick off.
Personally, I like a centre back as captain as they can see where things need changing or consolidating during the game. They should also be the link between the manager and the players if someone has a gripe. Who that is at United, I’m not sure, but it certainly isn’t Robinson, Arblaster is probably too young at the moment and by the time he’s old enough will more than likely be playing elsewhere.
Let’s see where we are at the start of the season, there might be a new signing who fits the bill.

I don't think the role of captain is what it was.

But we do need leaders on the pitch.

I would say, souza, Burrows and blaster are 3 who are (currently) first names on the team sheet and have potential for the role.

JLT is and old school captain but I think everyone agrees that he ideally isn't a first choice cb.

Leaders on the pitch is more needed than any one guy tbh in football.

That said wasn't one of our failed league one sides full of other sides captains? Didn't exactly work

Love him or hate him, the epitomy of a captain was Roy Keane.

He wouldn’t have slackers on the pitch and would also get that extra percentage from players when the chips were down.

As a bonus, he led by example too.

Something that we lacked last season, especially compared to previous seasons.

I wouldn't mind giving Burrows the armband this season, last season I think it would have added more pressure onto his shoulders in a season where he was trying to make the step up from L1.

Was a bit surprised that Moore never stepped up to lead, you'd think a player of his age and experience (2 promotions, WC appearances etc) would put their hand up and say, "give me the armband, Gaffer, I'll be the Captain you need", maybe that's what Robbo did?.

Not a bad shout re Moore as he's about as agile as Sir Captain Tom Moore when he was walking around his garden raising monies for the family Spa/ Sauna etc etc

Souza is a potential as last season he lead by example on the pitch and was a calming influence.

Brewster for me, everyone loves him,he seems to put plenty in, give him a contract, he stays injury free and could become a Blades legend.

I agree. Unfortunately, I'm not convinced he'll be at the Lane for season 25/26.

I'd expect him to be a prime target for a Premier League team looking to strengthen their squad.

While Robinson might be Wilder's "culture carrier", he drops far too many bollocks to be dishing them out to other people.

Cooper, Blaster or Souza for me

For me it doesn't matter who has the arm band on, it's whether they have the character to lead when things are tough. George Baldock wasn't out captain, but he was always a leader. We always responded better and showed more grit with Baldock on the pitch. I'd say we just need another Baldock, but there's only one Starman.

The game has definitely moved on from the "old school captain" dishing out the hair dryer treatment and stuff. Although players naturally have their personalities, they should be professional enough being paid the wages that they are to set examples on the pitch and not needing rallying. I can understand it if they weren't being paid to play. The captain doesn't have any responsibilities such as those in other sports such as rugby (rightly or wrongly) and realistically the coin toss could well be as simple as a random selector app as again apart from maybe pissing off the locals by kicking towards their kop home end in the first half it doesn't really matter. Coops could be a natural captain.

Souttar was our ideal captain but the Gods of Football weren't about to let that continue when he was clearly leading us to promotion.

Robinson was always a joke appointment and a joke in poor taste.

We've a poor pool of candidates , each with their own flaws preventing them being ideal captain material.

I suppose the best is Souza if he can keep a lid on it when things get tough - he was a revelation compared to the PL season but then he was competing in a league below his calibre.

However , since we DESPERATELY need to recruit a dominant CB leader of the defence , that man is a shoe-in for captain, if we make the right choice.

You’ve pretty well nailed it. We don’t currently have a captain at the club.
