Whats the most important to you league or cup?

Nigel has said the cup is now the most important and not league results do you agree? Personally the cup is a dream and i think we should aim to finish as high as possible.

For once, I disagree with NC. Surely it would have been better to say 'both'.

So the Cup is the most important. And if on Monday we're no longer in the Cup?

I'm in my 40s and was brought up watching FA Cup finals when they really really mattered to the players and fans. Some of that has gone now that money and the Champions League prevail.

I can't see United ever winning the First Division / Prem again in my lifetime, but I can still dream of the cup. It would probably be the highlight of my Blades supporting life to see us lift the cup at Wembley. Especially if we've beaten those overpaid cunts from Chelsea in doing so.

My thoughts exactly i honestly think now we have more chance of reaching 6th than winning the cup and lets be honest if the 4 teams in the draw are SUFC, Arsenal, Man city and say Sunderland we all know which 2 balls in that pot will have been warmed up and not be drawn together.

We have a very faint glimmer of a very slim chance to appear at Wembley three times.

It might be my last chance to get to a Cup Final with the Blades so Cup for me

His remit when he joined was keep us up, so I don't think it matters where we finish in the league now as long as we stay up. Obviously there's an outside chance of sneaking into the playoffs but there's no point giving up on the cup.

If we get to the semi-final from League One it's a ridiculously good achievement and a HUGE financial benefit going into next season. I guarantee that Clough is looking at the cup as a way to boost hist transfer/wage budget next season.

I voted for the cup, based on our current circumstances. If it were day 1 in the season, I would say league. The league should always take precedence.

There's no probably about it for me.

Only other thing of note that we have a shot of winning is now the Championship, but an FA Cup win would be above that by far for me.

There's so much money at the top of the premiership these days covering 5 or 6 teams, that there is practically no way for clubs of our stature to break in to the top echelon again, Nigel's Dad's achievements winning the league and European cups with Forest are a thing of the past, the FA Cup is just on the cusp of possibility as proven by Wigan last year, because it comes down to one-off games.

"The year a tier 3 club won the FA cup." That is something for the history books. It will also spark the debate as to whether the cup has lost it's romance with arguments on both sides.

Still a long way to go but I would take that over this years play off potential.

i think its a bizarre question, the cup is only seemingly more important as we are now much safer in the league. For me the league is always more important, of course we could say both are equally important but thats a bit of a fence sit. I would rather get promoted this season through the playoffs than lose to in the FA cup semi which we probably will if we beat Charlton. Still it would be great to get to the semi final of course.

Interesting use of the word "again" there Crouchy (unless you missed a 1 off the front of your age).

Cup for me thanks.

Not "again in my lifetime" but "again, in my lifetime". I can't be doing with punctuation smartarses :-)

With NC, it's the next game that is the most important...therefore, the Cup.

I'd win the cup and get relegated. I will probably never see Sheffield United win anything in my life, if we won the FA Cup and got relegated I would still be happy as a clam. Lets be honest however if we get to a semi final there is enough of a gap between the games for us to stay up and not be worrying.

P.S I don't think it will happen by the way.

Given that one of the finalists will almost certainly be Chelsea, Arsenal or Man City, we're not going to win the cup.

However, a final appearance and entry to the Europa League would be just as good as promotion to me. The Blades have been promoted and relegated numerous times since I became a fan, but we're by far the biggest club in Europe never to have played a proper competitive game in European competition. I'd love to see it finally happen - and besides, we might win it.

League for me, i.e. not getting relegated. Still not achieved yet, but one game at a time,

so come on you Blades, let's get to the semis, then who knows?

Realistically, we aren't going to win the cup, if we beat charlton then we would need a really good draw in the semi (hull or Sunderland) to make the final. We would then be likely to face a top premiership team that if it wasn't City, would be a team chasing their only chance of silverware. However well we have been doing lately, we are still a div 3 team that got pasted by Crewe last month!
That said, I would always take winning the FA cup against promotion, winning the league etc. I know that in my lifetime Utd will never win the premier league and to be honest if it means turning into a team / club full of hugely overpaid foreign prima donnas then I'm not that arsed.
Winning the FA cup to anyone outside that bunch of 'elite' clubs in the premiership that doesnt expect to win it, should always be special.

Ahh but then, the distraction of our quest for European Glory next season, could potentially de-rail our push for automatic promotion.

It's certainly a dilemma and I'm not sure what the answer is? ;)
Ahh but has the Cup this season distracted us from the league;);). The players are big enough to take on Europe. Especially Scougall:D.

Is that (at the time) premier league Wigan ?
Yes, the lower by a long way than Man City and doing so shot they got relegated Wigan.

If any opponents have an off day and we play at our best we've always got a chance of winning. Like Wigan had.

Hmmm, still a Wigan with players full of premier league and international experience, who play the likes of city etc, every week. Granted they were shit and went down but still leagues apart. Literally. I take your point though.

I think we need to hear "Harry's Game" thoughts on this ;)
