Honest discussion about the atmosphere

I honestly think the last two seasons in the premier league have been so mentally draining on the fans. Plus the turgid football we’ve played constantly this season brings nerves in which takes away from the buzz and crowd excitement massively.

It went with Warnock. It was wank before the PL promotion under Wilder and poor in Wilder's first spell. It needs a wrecking ball putting to it but it's probably too late in truth. It's cultural now. It's a lot of teenagers and young adults whole life supporting United. They're conditioned that way.

Have to admit my free scarf lost a little of its swirl when I saw that humongous circus tent sized banner slowly unfurl in the Sunderland end.

Felt that completely. That few minutes before kick off put our efforts to shame. It looked incredible.

People are being silly in here. Of course we’re not going to be the loudest group atm because we’re an extremely jaded fanbase.

Those who think our home support is terrible clearly haven’t gone to enough grounds or taken notice of the EFL. The atmosphere at grounds all across the country is dead at home. In person I’ve seen this at Wednesday, Barnsley, Rotherham, Forest (a couple of years ago), Middlesborough and Bradford. The atmosphere isn’t as good as Wilder mark 1 but comfortably better than the League One days.

It was virtually impossible to join in with GCB from where I was sitting in 104- it was nearly over by the time I heard it. Even Starman was fairly pathetic compared with the Bristol City rendition. There was talk on here as to how it should start - on the ref's whistle was one idea. Not every fan comes on S24SU so these organised chants , minute applauses etc need to be organised so that all fans (or most) know what's going on . I get the impression people don't like to be orchestrated though

I agree, but tbf I think we had a decent atmosphere in the first promotion season 18/19 and in 19/20 pre Covid. Certainly better than it has been since 2020

People don't like to be orchestrated. But I also think people would agree being orchestrated is better than the pathetic atmosphere of yesterday. Lesser of 2 evils.

I don’t think Wembley is conducive to a good atmosphere generally. Around me was decent up until VAR ruled the goal out. Didn’t hear much of Sunderland all game either in all honesty.

We had the worst season possible last year, absolutely nothing to shout about. The style of play this season has been turgid, it doesn’t give the fans anything to really get behind.

We have plenty of scar tissue from the playoffs so everyone is going to be double on edge. We then transpired to just stop playing. Why is anyone surprised by the atmosphere?

Moan about the atmosphere until the cows come home but there has to be excitement on the pitch to get people going.

The atmosphere is simply mirroring the style on the pitch.

Don’t get me wrong I appreciated the sentiment of the scarf, something for my young un to treasure despite the result as it was his first final / first time at Wembley. But our scarves swinging had nowhere near the effect their flags did, and that would’ve been much cheaper for the club to sort too
Agreed.

Still don't get how Charlton can sell 40k tickets for a league one play off and yet we can't sell 35k. Mind boggling!

A supporter can purchase a maximum of four tickets for the final, with ticket purchasing phased as per the below:

Phase 1 - Saturday, May 17th @ 1pm: Supporters with 750 loyalty points can purchase a maximum of four tickets.

Phase 2 - Saturday, May 17th @ 3pm: 2024/25 and 2025/26 season-ticket holders can purchase a maximum of four tickets.

Phase 3 - Sunday, May 18th @ 2pm: Valley Gold members* can purchase a maximum of four tickets.

Phase 4 - Monday, May 19th @ 2pm: Supporters with 150 loyalty points can purchase a maximum of four tickets.

Phase 5 - Tuesday, May 20th @ 2pm: Any members on the club's ticketing database, as of May 15th, can purchase a maximum of four tickets.

Phase 6 - Wednesday, May 21st @ 2pm: General sale - supporters can purchase up to four tickets.

Phase 7 - Thursday, May 22nd from 11am until 5pm: Any remaining tickets will go on sale in-person for one day only for fans that may need extra support in purchasing tickets. (e-tickets, booking fees still apply) Charlton Athletic cannot guarantee it will have tickets available at this time.

Pretty sure they sold out by phase 2 or 3, but as I mentioned in SB, my friend, his dad and brother are members and between them bought 12 tickets to take family. I took 4, on 4 separate memberships. When I bought the tickets i couldn't take my daughter, or wife, or dad or mum etc...

Atmosphere was shit last season, we blame the results. Atmosphere is shit this season with absolutely exceptional results, we blame the style of football.

The reality is, most people that come don't feel responsible for creating an atmosphere, they have no intention of making any noise. Another group are just miserable, entitled twats, who think that unless we blow teams like Middlesbrough, Coventry and Sunderland away, we aren't playing well enough.

Most people that talk about style just can't accept how football has changed. Leicester fans complained last season under Maresca that the football was boring, despite being about 10 points clear at the top of the league. The people who think passing sideways and backwards is negative clearly don't watch Man City, Liverpool or any other top team.

I think they probably do, but appreciate it's a bit different when that style brings you success. It really is (for most of us) immensely boring to watch these days.

We just do not have a big enough fan base & also we have a large number who simply cannot afford it. I’m sure I’ve seen demographic's before that show we have a broad ‘low income’ mix.

I was at the Palace playoff way back & we no where near sold out that day. It does not bother me ….‘the we’ve got more fans than you narrative’ is boring.

That people find it boring is something I nor anyone else can do anything about, it's a matter of opinion.

People don't just find it boring though, they don't think it works and criticise the manager for it. This is just wrong.

The atmosphere at English football ground has generally dropped off a cliff, partly because it's no longer really accessible to the types of people who tended to make the noise, and partly because as a sport it's now far less exciting to watch.

Ours though, seems to have had a ridiculously big swing. Bramall Lane was notoriously loud, and an intimidating place to play not that long ago. It's now deathly silent at the Lane, and we're in danger of becoming a notoriously shit fanbase instead, with the recent non sell outs of big games. I know there are very valid reasons for why these things have happened, but it doesn't change the fact that we've lost our reputation as one of the better fanbases.

BUt tHeY caN GeT tHErE oN ThE tUBe

Just when the pain was starting to recede, you find out fans of yet another team were louder than us………likely be the same heartbreak for some even if we’d won
